Can’t wait for the daily Christmas advent knit along! For anyone who isn’t sure about trying double pointed needles - just give it a go. That’s what I did and I was surprised how easy it was, much better than magic loop in my opinion. Trust me, you won’t even notice anymore once you’re totally addicted to knitting these Christmas balls 😂
Agreed! And if you're struggling, maybe consider trying a different type of dpns. I started out with really slippery metal needles and they kept slipping out of my stitches. Then I switched to bamboo and have never looked back. The key is to experiment till you find the tool(s) that work for you.
100% agree! Dpns are the way to go for knitting in the round! And it’s not that hard, you’re really only using two needles at a time. The other 3 needles are just holding stitches as you work your way around. And I agree w sparkle that bamboo or wooden dpns are great, especially for beginners!
I am 60. I am knitting since 50 years and I use dpns since my first pair of socks with 11 years. Don't ask, how they looked like. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 So I rubbed them and knitted it a second time. It worked well and since this pair I love knitting socks. Everyone in my family loves selfknitted socks.
I love how Carlos always says that it is a 30-minute program, and then sometime in the program, usually around 45 minutes to an hour, he will remark that they have been talking for a little more than 30 minutes. It makes me chuckle every time. Thank you for spending "30 minutes" with us I look forward to it each week!

I felt like we were sitting in a Parisian cafe. The collage in the background and the cafe table with the patterned table cloth. As always, your episode is a gift.
A friend of mine grew up in northern Wisconsin or Minnesota and he said he was 12 years old before he realized most people didn't need to know Norwegian to go to the hardware store...
You are so lovely to each other. I love all the stories, laughing together, and learn new things. Your creative minds are amazing too! Can't wait to see you everyday in December!!
This is a most enjoyable episode! And Carlos, you blend in perfectly with the decoupage screen behind you so that it looks like you are part of the screen come to life! The front edge of your sweater runs right up into the screen. It is an interesting illusion. I can't stop watching.
I look forward each week to these sessions more than any other on RUclips. You are both so informative and good humored and obviously respect one another a great deal. The time goes by so fast.
I'm very bad at doing this and so was my Mother. I found a complete stack of Christmas gifts my mother hid back somewhere between 2002 & 2010 when I was cleaning out the house after she passed away in 2010. They were tucked in back of the 2nd bedroom closet that wasn't used at all. So yeah I stopped hiding Christmas (or any) presents any more.
I had a horrible day at work and decided I needed a little Arne & Carlos before calling it a night. Thank you guys for making me laugh so much with all the teasing. Love hearing about Arnie’s little great-grandfather and Arne mimicking how Carlos sounds when he can’t open the door because he doesn’t have pants on. 😃 Thanks for lifting my spirits!
Thank you for providing me with an interesting and fun afternoon. I love hearing about Arnie's ancestors, the progress on your Norwegian costumes, your porridge-gate and the best of all, taking part in your laughter. Looking forward to your daily podcasts.
LOVE your screen in the background. You both had me laughing so hard when you were talking about Arne's great grandfather being short. Thank you for the giggles.
So fun laughing with you two this morning! For ppl who are new to using DPN's- I remember being afraid my work would fall off the needles. Use wooden needles. The stitches stick to them more than with metal needles. Also, because there will be so few stitches on each needle, you can keep the stitches in the center of each needle you're not vworking on, & they won't fall off. It's easier than it looks. Give it a try!
What I love the most about these sit and knit podcasts is that we’re getting to see more of the “Arne and Carlos” as you are outside of the business/designer aspect. You’re more relatable, it’s like sitting and watching your brother and brother in law get on and have fun together. Love this new platform
I love how Patty LaBelle sings the ABC’s on Sesame Street with so much love, warmth and joy! Her version is compelling to sing along and exercise those lungs! I’m sure her performances do a lot of people good! Viva Patty LaBelle!
I use Addi Flexi Flips - a cross between DPNs and circular needles. I plan to make a Christmas ball for my week old granddaughter- and then one new one every year for her.
I had my daughter look at your podcast and she agrees that the screen is awesome. You 2 have such lovely taste. I wish I could visit you both. You are wonderful.

Great episode! I love the genealogy and the stories. The new mug is amazing. I love the humor and the interactions between you, I feel like we have really gotten to know you since you started doing the daily COVID episodes. The unedited episodes are my favorites because your personalities really come through and we see the real Arne and Carlos. Before this the edited episodes were (are) more like your landscaper Rob, you mow in your programmed pattern and make perfectly straight rows. In these episodes you don't just give us the information you mean to, you veer off the path and give us you. I really like that so much. I like you guys even more now. Hugs from your frazzled friend in Maryland moving to Virginia in less than 2 weeks (YIKES!). Downsizing from a large 4 bedroom home with a basement to a 3 bedroom condo that is TINY and has very little wall space for furniture and not enough room to put things away from the wall. My kitchen, dining, living area is smaller than my kitchen or about the same size as my kitchen here. I'm having a hard time getting rid of my husband's things, but a lot of it is going to one of my grandsons so that makes me happy. I'm having my surgery on December 17, just 2 weeks (or a bit less) after moving. I'm hoping this surgery makes me feel better, the pacemaker can't work properly right now so it didn't help. So much in such a short time! The Christmas balls are keeping me sane and giving me some peaceful moments in the craziness that is my life. Thank you for releasing them early for us.
I have a terrible memory for historical stories (and I didn't even have Covid like Carlos), but I know in Europe there was a thing called phyloxera that devastated vineyards all over the continent, and because of that it was difficult to impossible to get wine for quite a while, and that is when absinthe became wildly popular. I have a feeling that artists and people with romantic tendencies would also have enjoyed the aesthetic ritual of absinthe, with the drink being poured and then the water dripped over a sugar cube above the glass, making the drink turn cloudy. Added to that were the fanciful stories of drug-like effects, visions, etc., and the whole experience of drinking absinthe became almost mystical. All of that because people couldn't get their hands on a glass of wine! I mentioned before I don't usually go for merch, but I think you got me with the new mug. Good job!
You're correct and it was a Texas grape stock that saved the European wine industry. They were able to graft European stock onto the hardy Texas wild grape stock and it worked!
@@candynkeith As soon as it became legal to buy some in the U.S. (I think around 2005, plus or minus), I bought a bottle and did the whole thing with the sugar cube, etc. I can't confirm the legends about visions because it wasn't an enjoyable drinking experience! I remember thinking people must have been pretty desperate to latch onto absinthe as their drink of choice. Goes to show there's something for everyone.
Normal tiny!!? 😂You guys are hilarious and I’m loving this time with you both. Your house is full of laughter, what a blessing. So excited for your advent!
Great episode - a wonderful oasis in a hectic day! My great-great grandfather was also a coachman - in the Yukon, during the Gold Rush. Sadly he didn't find any gold and wound up settling down on a farm in northern Alberta. I loved hearing your strategies for hiding Christmas gifts from each other - and for snooping around the house (or email trash can) to find some clues! You've made me a whole lot more excited about Christmas today - thanks so much. Off to go stick a certain Christmas mug into my Teespring cart!
When I was 18 (1976), I put money down on A blue metallic beetle. There was a mix up and I never got the message that my bank loan was approved. I didn't get my beetle. I still long for one. When I saw your mug and bag with the beetle and tree, I immediately ordered them. I will finally have my beetle! In one of you videos, please talk about your beetle. I recently ordered coffee that was highlighted in the tv show, New Scandinavian Cooking. It is amazing. I am saving the last of it to drink in my Arne & Carlos beetle mug. Love your videos. Thank you! You make staying mostly quarantined much easier.
Thank you, thank you, thank you both for all the laughs and the evening’s entertainment. I want to make sure you know how much joy your banter gives those of us living in isolation during these tough times.
So many laugh out loud moments today! “Arne, Arne, there is someone at the door”...Patti “Lapel”..... another great visit with you two. They make a gloomy Wednesday much brighter here on the very wet west coast of Canada! ❤️🧶👍🏻
Arne and Carlos thank you for giving me a wonderful memory of my father. At Christmas my mother would hide our gifts from my father too otherwise he would occasionally get so excited he would give us a gift early. I’m smiling brightly at the memory. Thank you both. Really loved this podcast. It's like having coffee with good friends. Thank you so much for these. So... after so much discussion and laughter about heights (or the lack thereof)....just how tall are you guys?
A&C please tell us about the wall behind you! I was so intrigued with all the cut outs, I kept loosing track of your conversation. I have my pattern downloaded and yarn ready to go; I will be knitting with the magic loop. On a side note, I am really enjoying the Reine Hat pattern. Several family members will be getting these hats for Christmas.
Oh Arne ... naughty, naughty taking advantage of Carlos! He’ll remember all your pranks when he’s 💯. 😂 Ms. Patti La Belle is a major diva icon in the us!!!! What a blessing to see her. When I first learned double points I used wooden ones. It helped me master the skills (yarn tension and needle manipulation) and now I have no trouble with any kind of needle.
Dear Arne and Carlos, I recently went into my bee and butterfly garden and picked whatever was standing to make a bouquet of the seedheads. I was amazed at the colours of the plants when I brought them in the house. The greys are pink, silver, rust and yellow. You are going to have great fun with this project.
In English, we do actually say “When I was little, I used to...” meaning when we were young. So Arne was using the word correctly there. Yet it is an interesting juxtaposition of words (young and little) which has subtle differences in meaning depending on the context. 😂💕
Things were so different in the old days. My brother got his first car when he was 13 years old. I can't remember what the model was, but I remember (and I was six) driving around on our farm in his car. We owned a huge amount of property, and he would be able to take us out for these hour-long rides! We were smokers at the age of 13, but we all stopped more than 20 years ago, thank goodness! Love listening to your stories about your grandparents.
I am with Carlos I hate waiting for surprises I always search for presents too. Awesome background! I love all those vintage cut outs! Fantastic show as usual

I got my granddaughter a cookbook that had recipes from different children's stories. It had that recipe in it. But a much "tamer" version for the younger set. I actually re-read that book a few years ago. I still enjoy it.
Looking forward to your daily Advent calendar! I have my patterns printed and am so ready to start. Between covid brain and senior moments and just plain LIFE, it's a wonder any of us can function. Carry on, Carlos, you are doing great!

so looking forward to your daily Advent knit along!!! I have never done color work but your balls inspire me to learn. I love today's back drop. Your stories are wonderful to listen to.
Never apologize for going over broadcasting time...I wish your episodes were x10 longer Love love love your festive beetle holiday swag ! My granddaughter and I made quite a few of your notebooks during our first lockdown. We have given them to people as presents. I just gave one to a friend this week.its lovely because you can make the books to suit the people. Everyone has loved them so far. I have to say I have a number of your books now and out of all the books I have yours are the ones I use continually 😁👍
Another delightful episode. You guys really make my day, I cracked up a few times. I look forward to seeing your new vests with the Patty Lapels! I'm so happy to hear that double pointed needles don't bite! I do have a tip for beginners: use shorter bamboo needles, like 5 inch long needles. They are less overwhelming, and the bamboo makes it harder for the yarn to slip. Can't wait!!!
It's a cool, pre-winter day, so I'm curled up on my couch wearing my comfortable t-shirt....no pants....with my soft favorite afghan, a lovely cup of Guayake tea, watching an Arne & Carlos podcast. Life is so good!
Whatever was in that blueberry compote, I’ll have some of that. These podcasts just keep getting better and better. A tonic during this awful time especiallyhere in the north of England at present.
I'm still catching up on your videos! I love when you talk about genealogy. I've been working on my family history since my high school years - around 1980. All of my ancestors are Norwegian and some are from the area that Arne talks about, which is the Solør region of Hedmark. The other two areas are Østfold and Telemark. I grew up around grandparents and great aunts and uncles who spoke Norwegian, so hearing your accents brings me back to my childhood and being around all of my family. Thank you!!
At 58:30 minutes Carlos says, we have all the time in the world. We've been doing this for a little over 30 minutes. You two gentlemen are having far more fun than anyone is entitled to. And I am enjoying every second of it. Looking forward to your Advent podcasts. Virginia in northern Ohio USA
Missed this the first time around and what a joy! Many comments including that in America the farm kids also drive the tractors at 12 or so. In farm areas you can still get stuck behind a slow tractor going from one field to another. Also the “bed head” comparison. My husband takes great pride in his totally tangled bed head! 😂😂😂
I am enjoying your genealogies very much. There are correlations between yours and mine. My cousin was a published genealogist and told me many family histories. Your grandfather, I think you said, was born in 1876. That’s the same year my grandfather was born. I love you both. Thank you for all you contribute to the knitting community. Congratulations on your RUclips award.
Arne and Carlos, I wish you knew how much joy you bring to the world and a wonderful break from the insanity here in the US. I just went and watched a poor quality video of Patti Labelle singing for Waangari in 2004 and she brought me to tears. Even a poor quality video couldn't dampen her dynamism! Thanks for reminding us of her. She and "A Change Has Gotta Come" is sorely needed right now. And I love Waangari who spoke truth to power against vile people in Kenya and was able to accomplish so much for the women of Kenya against horrific odds. With much affection, Fern in Minnesota

The way Carlos is sitting makes it look like his right arm is part of the screen behind him. 😀
light and shadow effects, very cool, eh? I noticed it also!
so many coffee spit moments - i laughed so hard i think i'm 5 years younger and healthier - thank you both
a new porridge to try - Hot Peanut Cereal from Recipes for a Small Planet by Ellen Buchman Ewald ( you can leave out the raisins ;-} )
Thank you!
Super excited about the daily Sit and Knit episodes! And the advent calendars!!!!! Jazzed!
So are we!
Arne, the sweater you are making from “scraps” is wonderful. Really fantastic!! Looking forward to the daily podcasts in December. We are sequestered again in WA, USA. Can’t visit other homes, so these podcasts from you will be an extra special gift. Have a beautiful holiday, and thanks again for sharing with us.
You as well!
What a fun SK4B, Arne immitation of Carlos with a high pitch voice was hilarious. Happy Holidays and be safe
You too!
Giggling along with you. I have “normal tiny” relatives in my family history, too!
You two are such a lot of fun and I am looking forward to your daily videos a real tonic at this difficult time.
Thank you!
Love the Beautiful room divider behind you,,has to be one of Arnes great finds..also enjoyed your animated stories today. My grandmother was a cousin to Keiser Wilhelm..My Norwegian side of the family are all very short and I live in Wisconsin..And yes we have a huge German and Norwegian population here..the plant press is awesome..Big hugs from Milwaukee..❣🤗🐾🐾
I'm shocked that's why I'm laughing. Oh I'll be using that one in the near future!
Lol
Ahhh I'm recalling the berry cordial in Anne of Green Gables. . . . 🍷🍷🍷
😀
I got my granddaughter a cookbook that had recipes from different children's stories. It had that recipe in it. But a much "tamer" version for the younger set. I actually re-read that book a few years ago. I still enjoy it.
that's so cute ! sounds about right just joking...LOL!
Looking forward to your daily Advent calendar! I have my patterns printed and am so ready to start.
Between covid brain and senior moments and just plain LIFE, it's a wonder any of us can function. Carry on, Carlos, you are doing great!
Another lovely morning with coffee and Arne and Carlos. Of everything available for viewing I find your channel the best. Your both a hoot. Hugs
Thank you Gail!
"He's not VERY tiny. He is normal tiny" 🤣🤣🤣
😂
Sitting watchig you two, I am sewing in yarn ends on a blanket I made for xmas. This year I will give away mostly handmade things... Wool ordered online, some in summer already,... So no shopping sprees here... High risk patient in highly infected city...
Same here. Working on some even now - from Arne & Carlos's Christmas Balls book.
@@cydnicaldwell1337 when threads were sewn in yesterday, I, too, started another xmas ball/julekuler... No. 4, highly addictive, as carlos rightly says
Love Arne’s new tote with the car. My first car was a ‘68 or ‘69 VW Bug and I loved it. I wish I still had it...so fun to drive and so many great memories.
They are very nice to drive.
so looking forward to your daily Advent knit along!!! I have never done color work but your balls inspire me to learn. I love today's back drop. Your stories are wonderful to listen to.
Never apologize for going over broadcasting time...I wish your episodes were x10 longer
Love love love your festive beetle holiday swag !
I have seen new small diameter 11”/27cm circulars...I will try an “A&C Christmas Ball” on these ...if it doesn’t work out...I will use DPNs as suggested

Thank you!
I knew that you meant double-breasted😉. I'm American and only speak one language and I mix words up like that all the time, lol
The two of you are too funny and a delight to watch!!!
Thank you Oriana!
Thank you for today’s laugh. It is always a pleasure for me to watch your episodes and enjoy my knitting. Safe travels to Lillehammer.
A pleasure to knit and watch this episode last night. I love it when you two laugh together.
Glad you liked it!
It's a cool, pre-winter day, so I'm curled up on my couch wearing my comfortable t-shirt....no pants....with my soft favorite afghan, a lovely cup of Guayake tea, watching an Arne & Carlos podcast. Life is so good!
Thank you!
Back in the 90's my college philosophy professor introduced me to EZ. It truly changed my life.
Love the screen. It is lovely to watch two people who get on so well
Thank you!
Beautiful pressed flowers! Thank you for another sit and knit for a bit, made me laugh as usual!!
Another very enjoyable hour spent with you both. Thank you, very much for sharing a bit of your life!
You are welcome, thank you for watching!
Love the laughter! So infectious! I’m laughing with you both.
Although I'm from Pittsburgh, I now call Wisconsin home. What fun to see your magazine about Elizabeth Zimmermann.
Oh my goodness you two are so funny. I watch all your episodes while knitting, love you so much
🙂😀
You are both so much fun to spend time. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing parts of your lives and experiences with us. Looking forward to the daily balls!
Thank you!
Whatever was in that blueberry compote, I’ll have some of that. These podcasts just keep getting better and better. A tonic during this awful time especiallyhere in the north of England at present.
Gosh this episode had me cracking up!! Arne’s little grandfather and Carlos being in his longjohns 😂
😃
I'm still catching up on your videos! I love when you talk about genealogy. I've been working on my family history since my high school years - around 1980. All of my ancestors are Norwegian and some are from the area that Arne talks about, which is the Solør region of Hedmark. The other two areas are Østfold and Telemark. I grew up around grandparents and great aunts and uncles who spoke Norwegian, so hearing your accents brings me back to my childhood and being around all of my family. Thank you!!
Love the pressed flowers. So artistic and can hardly wait to see how you use them for designs. Good idea.
Thank you!
Thank you. I enjoy this hour of “normality” each week.
Sit and knit for a week would be a wonderful idea ;-) Thank you for this episode!
You are welcome!
The family story of Arne's great grandfather is hilarious. I can just see a tiny, young boy, smoking and driving a coach.
You guys are hysterical! BTW, I love it when you talk about Freymer! They are two special dogs, for two special guys!
🐩
Another great week. Love hearing you all giggle!!!
😂
You two are such good company. You make me chuckle. Being scottish, I cant wait to see which tartans you choose for your waistcoats. 🏴
Your background wall is amazing, thanks for sharing your family’s history 👍❤️😊
At 58:30 minutes Carlos says, we have all the time in the world. We've been doing this for a little over 30 minutes.
You two gentlemen are having far more fun than anyone is entitled to. And I am enjoying every second of it.
Looking forward to your Advent podcasts. Virginia in northern Ohio USA
It is always so entertaining to watch you both! You are so funny! Thank you for sharing!
The mural behind you tube is gorgeous. As usual of love the stories from you two
Gorgeous new mug and bag. Your genealogy segments are so entertaining and fascinating. The flower pressing is inspirational too. Lots of love. xx
Thank you!
That is the best hair do!
Interesting and thank you!
Thank you!! I have been watching these since last March and you are inspirations.
Thank you!
