  • This is an instructional video on how to use the Princess Auto 8534224 17" long handled threaded rivet tool. I recently purchased this tool online. When I received it there where no instructions on how to change the various dies and how to use this tool. Both the supplier and the manufacturer of the tool could not provide one. I have used cheaper hand thread insert tools only to break them after setting a half dozen or so 1/4" aluminum inserts. The tool in the video is much better made and will set steel threaded inserts. After taking a bit of time to figure out mainly how to change the dies, I decided that a short video would be useful to others, even using tools from other suppliers. I have been using threaded inserts on my 1929 Ford roadster hot rod and recently on the cowling for the electric fan for the radiator. This will be another video at a later date.

    The only guy on RUclips who shows how to change the dies. Thanks, unfortunately my rivet tool is different.

    This is an outstanding instructional video. Best on RUclips in regards to these tools. Just purchased an Astro 1442, which is similar to yours, on Amazon and this training will make things easier. Thank you Sir.

    What is the scale with a yellow background and black lines?

    Thank you for that no-nonsense how-to video. I have an older system where you use two wrenches to set the inserts. Very difficult and hard to control. Now I'm going to get one of these.

    Thanks. Just received a similar item from amazon and couldn't work out how to change the mandrel. Your video showed me the pull back collar that I didn't realize was a pull back collar.
    I received instructions with mine but I don't think they explain this bit clearly enough. So glad I found your video before I ended up stripping the end down to work it out myself.

    Thank you. Bought one on amazon and they had no how to video or directions. Yours was great.

    Great video. BUT.. it shows how to change the mandrel. Does not explain a critical part of installation which is setting the depth and knowing the thickness of the panel being used to properly set the riv nut.

    Mine is a different brand but the same tool... it came with instructions but they were so terrible I couldn't figure out how to get the die out even with the horrible Chinese-English translated instructions. I had the damn thing locked in a vice trying to turn the stupid insert out!
    Thank you so much for sharing this, I figured it had to be easy and made difficult by terrible instructions.

      Thank you. When I first bought this tool there were no instructions on how to use it and when I received them they were a joke. This resulted in the video only to help others out.

    On mine to release from the set insert instead of pumping the handles in and out to unscrew it from the finished insertion, I just turn the wheel at the end of the center insertion rod counterclockwise and that's it. Either way seems simple enough. Great video. Thank you!

    How did you set the stroke length?
    It differs depending on the nut size used and the thickness of the panel. If the stroke is not set properly either the mandrel will break or the nut doesn't sufficiently bite in to the panel.

      The stroke length is the most important aspect in my opinion. Another 8-minutes wasted

    How do you adjust the scale in the middle of the tool. My instructions says it should be at 0 and 6 mm but it’s currently sitting at 9 mm when arms are fully extended

    At 8:00, you show how to easily remove the tool by opening the 2 handles; unless you have a different style that I don't know about, that technique does not work. Instead, you must rotate the know counter-clockwise to remove the die and tool from the installed rivnut.

  • @GnosisMan50
    @GnosisMan50 7 лет назад +4

    wait!..how did the the insert tool come off at the end of the video!? The die was threaded and the only way out would be by rotating the tool. It looks like a magical trick that was done there.

    • @1929fordhotrod
      @1929fordhotrod  7 лет назад +4

      No magic, once the insert has been set, just open and closed to handles of the insert tool and it will un-thread itself from the set insert.

    Still using such a laborious tool? Sigma rivet nut adapter makes it easy to set the rivet nut! It's time to have a more relaxed tool.
