    genetiics also plays a role. When I was in high school I lost my hearing for two weeks. When I finally said something I was taken to the ER (we lived on an USAF base, so the ER was also urgent care) and they flushed a huge chunk of wax out of both ears. I had never put a Qtip in my ears at that age. Turns out my genes tell my ears to generate a ton of wax when I am around something I'm allergic to, like my cats. I have used a nasal flusher occasionally since then and it is so satisfying.

Can't remember what it's called though :/

    • @lullac6399
      @lullac6399 7 месяцев назад +56

      @@HeyItsIDKear wax is usually self-cleaning. As the skin of the ear canal sheds, the wax is carried to the outer part of the ear canal and drains from the ear. People only really suffer from ear wax build up for a few reasons. I think the most prominent reason is genetics though. A person may naturally produce a lot of ear wax, have smaller ear canals, particularly hairy ear canals, and/or naturally produce dry or hard ear wax. Any one or a combination of these factors would increase one’s likelihood of ear wax build up. Anecdotally, I’ve been told that people pushing their ear wax inside using q-tips is a problem. Considering that even the box says not to use them for that purpose, I’d have to agree. If you have wet ear wax, you usually don’t have to do anything. If you have dry ear wax, getting your ears checked at your doctors appointment should be enough preventative care. I doubt you’d need your own ear wax cleaner unless you or your family have a history of needing to get their ear wax constantly removed.

      I typically use it straight after shower mostly to remove the water build-up, but also to lightly remove any excess earwax.
      Dry scrubbing is what causes irritation.
      I tried not cleaning for a while and found that the water buildup is what irritates me the most and I would need to address it any way, q-tips are a much more reliable option than the corner of a towel and miles more safe than your finger, paper towel or a semi-loose piece of cotton.

However if it is so clogged they need to actually pull the excess wax out you'll want to go see a your gp and have them do it cuz they'll take a pair of tweezers with a really thin end and pull it right on out.

      Warm some oil (like olive oil), then lay on your side and put ~10 drops in the ear. Wait 10 min. Do this for both ears. Earwax is good for your ear though so only do this if it's itchy/dry or you're having trouble hearing.

      Don't clean your inner ears. The ear cannal self cleans. If you absolutely need to clean it, just use a towel and a finger. If it's clogged or bothering, don't mess with it, just go to stray to the doctor.

    • @sopermanobsessed
      @sopermanobsessed 2 года назад +28

      @@tainaracosta270 There are circumstances when removing the earwax is beneficial. For example, some people have medical conditions that cause their earwax to be drier than normal. Using oil to clean your ear will moisten the earwax and thin it, allowing it to work its way out of your ear. This helps avoid itchiness and impactions. I studied Audiology in college and this what my professors (audiologists) taught us. Definitely see an audiologist if there's any ear pain though.

      It's okay to use q-tips on the outside part of your ear and right at the opening of the canal. But you shouldn't stick them into the canal.
      That being said, using a bobby pin is 1000x more satisfying than a q-tip, imo.

      You're supposed to use the little kits where you drip liquid in, often hydrogen peroxide or mineral oil, which helps to dissolve the ear wax, and then you flush with warm water. I don't find that they actually help personally and it gives me the feeling of wanting to use Q-tips more than ever. But that's what the official recommendation is.
      Edit: Y'all, as I said, that's not what I personally use. I also use Q-tips and my ENTs say my outer ears are beautiful. The only time I've had issues with build up is when I stopped cleaning at all because of the Q-tip warnings and had a wax plug build up block my hearing. *shrugs* Just don't be like my dad and stick something worse in your ear like a pen cap--the goal is not to puncture your ear drum. If you push wax in and make a plug, the worst that happens is an urgent care visit where they remove it.

      You clean the exposed visible surfaces in your ear in the shower, or wipe with a wet wipe if you need to clean them at other times. To clean on the inside, you need a special dedicated ear cleaning kit.

      Now... People... do not do as I do...
      Use a pipe cleaner, you just need to be very very careful not to hit your ear drum. Make you fold the pipe cleaner in half so you don't have any sharp bits going into your ear. Do not swipe or wipe. Try to "snag" the earwax.
      I am 100% aware that I am a dumbass and that one day something horrible will go wrong. I don't see every body else running around with ears full of earwax that smells like ass. So until my body decides to produce a normal amount of earwax with a normal amount of smell. Dumbass cleaning is my only option short of going to the ER every 3 or 4 days to have my ear canals opened again

      Using excessive curse words like he does is definitely NOT being nice and gentle. I get that this is youtube and not an official medical place, and also that this is mostly for a joke, but if my doctor is swearing that much when talking to me I am not only changing doctors, I am also reporting it. Professionalism is also being able to convey the same message he is doing without being rude about it. Again, I am not hating on him at all. Clearly a lot of people like the way he presents the information and the factual infos he gives out are really important and useful. Personally, I just don't think it makes him look professional to use that many swears. But that's my personal opinion, feel free to disagree.

      Yep. Same here! I use a waterpik on the lowest pressure setting. Warm water and peroxide. You have to be very careful not to use high pressure. Or put it in too close.
