I am hopeful it will work out but it has some issues that are not as obvious right off the top. One it's very subjective to your area and player group. For example, if you play with the same 12 people all the time after 100 games each your net total for the entire 12 people would still be 3.5X12 because every time someone goes up, another player goes down by the same amount. The other problem is it's a base 3.5 for any new player, so the only way to go up is to again take from other players. If you're a 5.0, you're going to lower a lot of 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5 and possibly some 5s on your way up. It needs a better basis for the starting DUPR of a player and if your group is playing tightly but then someone goes out and over or under performs it should have a bit of an impact on your group. Again, using my 12X3.5, if somehow 2 players were exactly 3.5 still after the 100 games but played a 4.0 tournament and won it, then likely the entire 12 players are better than their DUPRs but are restricted by the locality they play in. Oh well, enough on this and I still with DUPR luck.
Looked into DUPR. I feel the system is skewed in so many ways. Like your scores only count if all 4 record the scores of a doubles match in DUPR. If 1 player felt he didn't like the score or match because his partner was the problem then all he/she has to do is not turn in the score and the other 3 are screwed. Just seems like way to many flaws in this system.
Yes, no matter what someone else tries to say in here, your partner will change how your rating is impacted as well as the rating of the opposition total. If there is more distance between teams total DUPR it will adjust more than if they are very close together. Likewise, your personal impact will also be impacted more or less depending on your partners rating. This is somewhat fair though as you shouldn't be able to partner with a 5.0 if you are a 3.5 just to get over a 4.0 rating. So, while it will eventually happen, it will take many more matches than if you and your partner are currently both 3.5 beating 4.0 teams.
thanks for the explanation. as a person that works with data for a living, i really like the DUPR system! much less subjective!

Just curious, doesn’t my opponents and my partners DUPR rating come into play as well?
Why would it??? DUPR Rating is only about whether you won your match against the opponent you played or lost! That’s what affects your rating +/-

it only works if you end up with a ton of data. Anyone can get a 4.0 rating by playing with your neighbors for 3 games.
I’m excited to see how the new updates to DUPR affect it coming at the end of the month. Also that $8M in funding they just got!
