G'day Dave, your vid was a game changer for me, at 93kgs now riding a 58L board. Riding small boards is really that much better, owe you a beer or two!
Yes I definitely agree the stinkbug is the easiest and fastest way to get going. Interesting you are starting sitting, I had always thought of the stinkbug as started lying down, front hand on wing, slide up onto knees in a crouch position, get back hand on wing and your up. I feel like going straight to lying is quicker but I imagine sitting up would give you better reach especially if your wing is flipped over
@@davewestfoils I'm 100kg and I tried this on a 75L Fanatic. Failed miserably. Felt like I was on a beachball. Maybe I'll practice on my 118L board if I can spread my legs apart that wide.
I tried this yesterday time and time again to try and get it right in heavy chop, I use a slick, I just noticed and iI think I know where I went wrong. Can you confirm you are putting your hands completely through the handles onto the board to get on the knees? If so I think this was my error, I was trying to use the boom on the nose and I kept either tipping forward or back. You make it look so easy 😅
Correct - I put my hand on the bar and flatten them out to push up. Those slick boards are pretty thick and I find it’s a title bit trickier with a boom set up.
Dan or Dave please let me know what you have sussed out. I'm using Slick SLS with the platinum carbon boom (smaller diameter) but figuring out how to push up with the boom in either just my front hand or both front/back hand is where i struggle a bit.

Love the StinkBug take-offs
Cheers Dave really helpful
Thanks Deewee! Best Rob -Netherlands- firkin cold here mate
In stronger winds you can even skip the whole kneeing part and just stand up from your seated position, even quicker 😎
You’re right. Sometimes you have to or else you fly away on your knees :)
Once I learned to stand on a sinker I never kneeled again on a board. So much easier and direct. Only one stage compared to 3 stage: seat kneel stand
Yes, stink bug is a game changer
Awesome!
How many litres below your weight is that board ?
I’m 95kg and board is 75L
What make/model?

@@davewestfoils would you say you need a bigger wing when you use that board? Or at least bigger than what others have with floatier boards ?
Awesome 😁👍
PS. Ist that the officiell Name 4 that methode?🤙
I have a 40L board slingshot fish and Cabrinha fusion 1300
I’m 100kg
You think I can learn on this set up?
Learn to wing from scratch?
@@davewestfoils
Correct!
No!
On your video you are doing à toe side waterstart?..I see that you put your left foot forward to ride toes side.
instead of kneeling, which not directly squatting ?
I'd say in general trying to stand straight into a squat will cause a lot of failures.

Tx for your reply.
Too difficult to give the good pressure on every foot in a while ?
Do you always you your dominate leg (assume Regular Stance) when getting up?
Yup - big mistake I made early on was not learning to ride switch. It’s on my to do list :)

Yeah baby!
My board is wider than yours. I can’t straddle the board like that.
@@gatesurfer must be pretty damn wide ;)
No safety protection. Very bad idea. Care about that and then on techniques...
