Marcotti > Julien
Let’s be honest City didn’t create clear cut chances because Real controlled and marshalled the most dangerous zones. Such as zone 14 and for a record how long are people gonna to keep saying Madrid are lucky. Madrid are defensively organised. They find ways to win football matches particularly in this competition.
Completely agree. It was an Ancelotti Italian style defensive masterclass. If Rudiger hadn't slipped, Madrid would have won 1-0 in 90 mins
Excellent points people who say Madrid are lucky are just casuals with zero ball knowledge.
Haters were harsh on Bellingham but as a madridista we didn't even criticize jude at all because of first leg performance. We know how great that kid has been for us this season and that injury against girona made him drop his form little bit off . As a madrid fan we knew he would step up at 2nd leg and oh man he did to set up that goal for madrid . Defending was even more impressive from him . All i can say is he will be at madrid for next decade or even more like kross and modric.. ❤❤❤
Bro ruddiger is world class defender. And he is a way better defender in this day of age then Alaba. The combination Militao/Alaba was over since last year. That's why madrid didn't won the big prizes last season. Their injuries were a blessing in disguise actually.
Ruddiger, Carvajal, and Valverde were something special.
Rudiger is a monster!
That's the same pairing that won UCL 14. The reason Madrid didn't win anything last season is because they lost Casemiro and Carlo took too long to adapt. You can even see it in the 4-0 loss against city. Fielding Kroos and Modric left them with only Valverde who can run and keep up with city's midfield.
@@AIexHernandez nice
I really think the Real Madrid display at the Etihad is one of the greatest defensive performances in football history. Right up there with the Inter performance at the Camp Nou and so on

This is why they are “analyst” and not managers
With Haaland, he needs Kevin, Foden, and Rodri to deliberately dribble the ball and beat defends so they can give him the ball with space.
The best striker don’t always sit in the box waiting for a goal

@@drep9028 but how many were actually good chances from dangerous areas? Stats aren't everything.
Real Madrid and the City attack stopped Haaland. When RM gave Haaland space every once in a while, City ignored him and so between the two, Haaland was a passenger more or less. Pep's refusal/inability to be flexible with his tactics have been a major for City all season, and yet no one wants to talk about it. We concede chances and goals bc of Pep's high line (higher than last year playing wingbacks most of the time as opposed to playing a combo of flat back 4 and overlapping FBs) which has led to City being ranked dead last in the PL for defense against the counter.
Couple that with Pep's refusal to allow for quick breaks and transitions when chance allows it, thereby taking away some of Haaland's greatest strengths and giving the opposition the opportunity to reset their defensive shape, or worse, full team low block, makes it so much more difficult to score when we need to. This is not a binary. We adjusted our systems last season based on the opposition such as giving Arsenal the majority of the ball and getting them on the counter; allowing RM more possession in their gaff and being tempered only to spring speed and possession on them at home for our 4-0 win over them. Its like that all went out the window and Pep is reverting to type - refusing to adapt and it has been hurting the team all season.
To add to that, the whole attack with few exceptions, could not hit the side of a barn last night. Would the outcome have been different IF Pep had adjusted his tactics (not just moving a player here or there)? Possibly. But I am pretty sure we would've been able to utilize Haaland more than we did which was basically zero. Apparently Pep forgot everything he shouldve learned last season getting rewarded with the treble. Maybe Pep learns better with the stick and not the carrot????
Your right, it seems like Pep is incapable of staying loyal to a successful formula. The 4 CB approach from last season would never have let Rodrygo score that first goal, and even if Haaland was used much as a decoy in big games then, too, they didn’t completely forget to fead him as the case have been this season.
@@torgeirgimmingsrud2439 Facts. And you have just added more credence to my point. Why couldnt we play more like that this season against ruthlessly efficient counter attacking teams? Drop the high line a bit and insulate ourselves from forced defensive errors via counters? Yet we didnt all this season. WHy?
Yet Pep did change things around at points last season depending on the opposition. Yet it seems that concept is totally alien to him this season. Love Pep but this has been very frustrating. Its like he is trying to force innovation for innovation's sake even when the evidence suggest he should not (high line at least)
As a Barca fan I think Haaland would really shine for a team like Real Madrid he’s amazing on the counter but awful for a possession based team!
Love how people are pretending its just city when we play like this against every team that pep has been. We know they are going to have more of the ball and we only need moments.
Do not criticise or expect more from Haaland, Jan Åge Fjørtoft will tell you he's the "best striker in the world", he's "unbelievable", he should have won the "Ballon D'or" and "FIFA Best" Award. Yet no goals in quarter, semis or final of Champions league or important games were a striker is needed to win you matches. But they go on and on about the 50+ goals he scored the previous season. And this "what do you expect from him?" comment they all make, I expect a player like Haaland to handle 2 defenders marking him. You want to be considered the best striker show it in games where your team needs you most
And how many players havto deal with 2 players that ref let foul him again and again without any reaction,
Heck Haaland should do some serious leg days if he wanna win arial duels with a defender sitting on his back. Messi gets angry and stop playing if a opponent just barely touch his jersey
Basically he is OVERRATED but its A hard reality to come to...pep doesn't have a good history with all out number 9 either

Jules asking for us to name chances, had the ball 2 yards out from the corner after 90 mins and missed
U guys are jokers and this Haaland situation has just highlighted the hypocrisy in football. When CR7 went back to Man Utd, the pundits said he had no real impact on the game other than when he scored as if that isn’t the primary responsibility of a striker especially one already past 35. Yet Haaland comes in and only scores and gets like 3 assists in all competitions last season and they all want to blow him. And now when he doesn’t perform because the other team, on one of the rare occasions, shuts him out and exposes the limitations of his game, the pundits are making excuses for him. We live in an era of versatile strikers exemplified by Benzema, Harry Kane, Lautaro Martinez etc and no team exemplifies the need for such a striker quite like Man City under Pep, except of course since Haaland arrived. When Aguero was there, all Pep did was criticize him for the first 2 years to get him to drop deep and play with the rest of the team even tho he was scoring like 30 goals in all competitions each of those seasons. But with Haaland, whose real value to Man City is his marketability, Pep just wants him to stay out of the way of the other players until he has space to power through a goal. These pundits are here talking about he held up the defenders but he’s not a target man, isn’t used as a target man and hates all the body contact a target man has to put up with. He can’t really play with his back to goal and bring his teammates into the game because at his best he’s a glorified poacher in an era that no one is looking for poachers. Without the unbelievable quality around him and the fact that the team create so many chances without him, he wouldn’t score as many goals as he does. Matches like this prove that. One day he will be off to Madrid where the talent around him will make life equally as easy with no real physical defenders to compete with in the rest of the league to really challenge him. And one day someone will ask the stupid question of if he’s a better player than CR7 was.
Messi and cristiano raised the bar so high that,it will difficult for future player to fulfill those aspiration.
Other teams win a game: "They deserved that." Real Madrid win a game: "What just happened?! How is that even possible?!" :-)
The question asked on individuals on teams ran by a manager like pep so control freak is unfair cause he does as he is told , I wish Haaland or grealish where in teams that play different cause then you can see more of their ability individual cause it requires so, imagine Haaland on yesterday's game but with the other shirt running in space with vinicius next to him, is unfair to judge him to do his job . He has to make the runs, he has to be with the defenders and that's it.
We can't blame Haaland for Man City's defeat, this is just Guardiola's responsablity why Man City couldn't beat Real Madrid. On the other hand, Real Madrid were good at defending until they got to penalties where Ancelotti's team was clever than opponent team.
Real Madrid didn't stop Haaland. City's style of play did that. Especially once RM got that first goal, RM just parked the bus and waited for the counter-attack. Other opponents have used the same tactic with success against City but RM have better, faster forwards and could capitalise. Funny how Gab asks the question re Haaland who barely saw the ball but DeBryne who missed the game winning sitter, was fantastic. I wonder what would happen if they swapped positions. Gabs just wanted to stir the pot but Juls reminded him that he doesn't even know how to cook.
"Not saying he was overlooked when he was".. what?
It sounds ridiculous, given his numbers, but if you look at his impact in the big games, it’s a fair point. He was poor in 4 games against Real Madrid this year and last, same against inter in the final too. He wasn’t bought to bang in 5 against Luton in the fa cup. He is supposed to make the difference in the big games. Still has to do that. Needs massive improvement in his all round game to become a truly elite player
Haland is a limited player. Its a truth they dont wanna admit.
