"Rabbit" fish is a misnomer. It's actually called White Belly. Spawning season is around end of the year, and is expensive during the CNY when there's a lot of roe and the fish is said be tasty during the period. Why they call it Rabbit fish is due to misunderstanding. In Hokkien or Teochew, White Belly sounds similar to Rabbit. Thus some people, esp. the English ed younger gen. thought it is Rabbit and began calling it "Rabbit" fish.

Thank you for sharing. For our case, we usully take care of the guts. Once penatrated, the bitter taste will spread 😁
