Horticultural pumice is a great alternative to perlite. It won’t float to top and isn’t dusty. Repti bark from the pet store is a nice and clean substitute for orchid bark. I also mix in coarse sand ( a little bigger than grit) or tiny pebbles or even small aquarium rocks to lighten up soil. Thanks for this video.
I'm in total agreement with you on the perlite/pumice. Perlite rises to the top over time, thus defeating the purpose of it. Pumice stays put; no floating around.
Hey Devin, Perfect timing on this one. I've been considering dividing my African violet, snake plant and orchid cactus so your video came at the right time. Also, I need to plant the cuttings (which have rooted) from my Christmas cactus, spider plant, Pothos and Monstera. You are always an invaluable source of information. Cheers buddy! Darryl
DEVIN ... My Plant Brother Lover !!! Thank you SO MUCH for your answer about my question about soil roots and water roots. I NEVER would have thought of that. You truly ARE an informational inspiration !!! Your folks must be so proud of you !!! I was SO HAPPY to see your video and presentation on QVC about your lavender plants. Honestly ... I would have liked to have purchased them from Roberta's Gardens ... but hearing of you being on QVC ... I opted for that venue. Yesterday ... my eight plants arrived. Let me tell you ... they are the HEALTHIEST plants I have EVER ordered on-line. I have a(nother) question for you ... WHICH venue would be the MOST beneficial to your family's business ... QVC, Roberta's Gardens or here on RUclips? I want the WORLD to know how WONDERFUL your plants are. I can ONLY imagine how busy you are on a daily basis. I do not wish to add to your daily challenges ... but, instead, to increase the word/popularity of Roberta's Gardens. Honestly ... I am most certain your family's business does not need MY endorsement ... however ... you have no idea how much you DO have it.
Hey Stephen! thanks for all of your kind words and your incredible support. I hope over time you find other videos that are helpful to you in your journey as a plant lover! We generally are able to provide the very best prices directly on qvc.com, so that would be my suggestion! and that makes me really happy to hear the Lavender came in looking great :)
Thank you so much for sharing Devin!! I'm in the process of repotting several of my houseplants and I really want to invest in the right soil mixes for my houseplants!! These sound like great soil mixes!!😊🙏🙏
If I haven’t been feeding my Christmas cactus all summer but have occasionally is there still time to make it bloom? Had several surgeries & things were put on hold. Can it still work? Any suggestions? Loved this video on soil, very informative.

Great info! Thanks. I'm not a huge fan of perlite, so I'll probably substitute pumice. The bright white color of perlite looks out of place to me, especially when I dump used potting soil in my yard. Pumice has a nice, natural light gray color.
Hi Devin! My friend introduced me to your RUclips channel and I am excited to learn more about plant care. I watched this posting about potting soil as I am planning to repot my ponytail palm. I recently discovered the bulbous base (as it had been buried since I got the plant) and have noticed the fronds aren’t what they used to look like and I feel it could benefit from a fresh repotting. I was wondering what soil mix would be best for a ponytail palm? Many thanks for your time. Peter
Hi, I just saw your video, and thanks for sharing all this information with us. I have just one question: I couldn't find charcoal in my country. What can I use instead of charcoal, or can I simply skip adding it? I'm referring to the third mixture.
Can anyone give me advice on whats the best indoor soil for house plants? I keep getting these fly nats on my plants the driving me crazy, and it's from the soil. I don't know what to do anymore. And I have the vinegar and dish soap in a bowl around the plants. Some fall for it but some don't. What can i do?

Any suggestions for growing and maintaining aloe vera house plants?
Also, I absolutely love your channel🌱
Hi Melanie! They loooove the light and warmth. If you can place it outside for the summer it’ll really get it growing well
@@plantvibrations really…I didn’t know that🤷🏽♀️ I’m headed to take my AV to my sunny porch right now☀️
Thanks a million🌱

Hi Peter, thanks for visiting. You can simply use a bagged houseplant potting mix for ponytail palms!
@@plantvibrations Ok, great! Thank you! Love your channel and looking forward to cultivating beautiful plants!
Which mix would you use for a calethea(prayer plant)?
You can just use the standard potting mix for Calathea
@@plantvibrations Thank you
Which would be best for bonsai?
The aroid mix is probably best

I’d just skip using it!

What brand of bark and size do you recommend ? Im new to repotting aroid plants.
Check the links in the description!
I avoid miracle gro and opt for organic potting soil for my plant babies. 💚🙂
❤️❤️
@deegrows7589 Agree. Lately, bags of Miracle Gro contain fungus gnats that fly out when opened😖🪴
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
What soil would you use for a yucca plant?
A general houseplant mix will be fine

my generic mix in this video is ideal. in the short term, add this to your soil amzn.to/3t2Gom7

Great idea!
that miracle gro potting mix for FLF is a recipe to kill it. It's so water retentive it's insane. It's like a sponge and keeps it so wet.
I’ve never had problems with it! As long as your pot isn’t too big it should be fine.
@@plantvibrations I'm with Rob, I could never use potting mix straight from the bag without adding at least some perlite.
Do you bonsai?
I have not ventured into bonsai
Horticulture, art, meditation all rolled into one... i am new to it and already love it
Thank you
