Love your observation of the cannon arm. That was part of what 13 & 14 had to learn last year. There were several drops during the year that was in large part due to them not being acclimated to the speed and force of his passes. It's on this year as long as the offense stays healthier than their defense...
I agree. Yes, trucking yourself into a guy will hype up the crowd, but he is the most important player on that offense as the QB. I don't mind the scrambling and running, but he just needs to slide a little more and avoid those unnecessary hits.
Sadly you can’t just have a bit of the Baker fire, he’s either trucking through guys or he’s on the sideline. The guy is an absolute menace and that’s why I love him!
@@bcole9898 I definitely get you on that, as a day 1 Baker guy I’ve already witnessed his lack of fear hurt him badly. The worst was early in his 4th season in Cleveland when he threw a pick and went to make the tackle which busted up his shoulder, and then he was too tough to willingly sit himself out so he played terribly all year. Thanks bro! It’s my last name so I became a Bolts fan as a little kid because of Marty. That dude played so big despite being tiny, never afraid to go in the corners and get into it with guys twice his size. Though idk if you’ve seen Marty’s legs, nobody in the league had bigger quads than him.
Pound for pound, I’ve always regarded Baker as a top 5 guy, and having an edge over Mahomes in some areas. People laughed at me, but I know football really well and knew he needed some stability and to be given a chance. He’s not a game manager, he is a gun slinger.
@@lapthanngo5609 I'm taking arm talent to mean a combination of velocity and accuracy to every quadrant of the field. Allen is a better player than Mayfield because of what he can do in the running game, but if the game is played in the pocket, then Mayfield is better.
@@JackSchitt-p9t statistically nobody has a bigger arm than Mayfield in the history of the NFL. He holds the record for longest air distance on a throw. It was an incomplete Hail Mary that flew out the back of the end zone but it was the furthest recorded throw nonetheless.
Baker has a cannon and is great at throwing off platform and extending plays. The route concepts were great. Chris Godwin is in the slot, which is perfect for the scheme. There is a lot of motion, isolating DBs, and getting more one-on-one coverages. The run-and-screen game was perfectly called as well. Give Baker the game ball, but Liam also deserves a lot of credit. He called a great game.
it was always insane to me following baker as former browns fan, that the media would talk about baker as a game manager. they always and probably still do say he has no arm. this guy had a problem on the browns because sometimes he would throw TOO HARD, just beaming his receivers. anyway i hope baker wins mvp or something he deserves it
To me this game and his performance last season has sold me on him being a Franchise QB, he has excellent football sense, great competitiveness, and he plays with heart, not a lot of QB's do that. This is not even taking into account the skill that Mayfield has, he has developed into a very good quality QB and he is capable of winning a Super Bowl ring.
To those who insist that Baker is to short to see his targets, take a look at the play at the 5 minute mark. There are 3 linemen directly between Baker and Godwin, but Mayfield threads the needle to him. Do you really think he's doing that by "using the force"? (NO QB is looking OVER 6' 4" linemen. They ALL see between and around them.)
Absolutely! Our defense needs to step it up against the Lions. Even our offense, as dominant as they were against the Commanders, need to make some tweaks if they want to compete with playoff-worthy teams. Looking forward to that rematch!
I don’t think baker passes the eye test for most of these analysts, but they don’t see what we see, and what Tom Brady saw in him. The moxie, decision making, and the will to never let a play die. Guy does not take any days off.
What is becoming more and more obvious is that talented athletes playing QB take several years of playing time in the league before they reach the peak of their abilities. Mayfield and Sam Darnold are demonstrating that. The new crop of highly touted QBs are not playing well. It is too soon for them. Purdy was really the exception. EVERYBODY in the NFL whiffed on Purdy. Remarkable young QB. Remarkable story.
What was nice to see what Mayfield being accurate. Last season in the middle of the season he lost some accuracy before recovering it for the late season run to the playoffs. He picked up where he left off and was very accurate in this game. Bigger challenge will be against Detroit with a badly banged up defense. Only Vita Vea left to rush the passer. Three cornerbacks out. Winfield Jr. is out for at least three if not four weeks. The defense at best is crippled. The offense may need to generate as much as 30+ points for them to have a chance to win. It is going to be a very hard task this week. Still, nice to see them play as well as they did against Washington.
The negative play you did there is something to notice. Trey rounded the break which I think opened the backside of the route to a possible pick six. I put that on Palmer. Thought the best way to run that route was with angles that would protect the QB from himself and take away the INT opportunity from the DB. Would this be correct analysis?
It was Washington. I mean he literally could throw with his eyes closed to Mike Evans and he would catch it. He literally caught it around an entire CB. Can we put this sh*t in context please. PLEASE.

Bakers arm talent is just as good as any QB in this league it’s a reason he went #1
Would agree except I think Mahomes is a cut above everyone else.
Velocity-wise, baker throws a harder ball than mahomes. Josh Allen throws the hardest though.

Gotta pity the poor bastard that gets the job of trying to cover Evans 1-on-1.

I've always loved watching Baker cook and agree he needs to protect himself however he gets his players amped up when he bulldozes through the tackler
If they can continue running the ball, Baker will be great.

I remember when that was a major talking point
Those lineman are also typically not standing straight up. They're about 6" lower than full height if not more.

I wonder how many Browns fans wish they still had Baker. They really got cooked by Dallas at home.
I’ve been salty since the day we signed Watson. I knew this was how it going to play out.
Baker needs to take advantage of McMillan a little more this week. That TD looked like easy money.

Bake reminds me of a chargers Brees.
Similar but a much bigger arm.
Only in terms of height. Baker has a missile for an arm. Brees was awesome at what he did, but it looks very different from what Baker does.
He reminds me of a tiny bit shorter Brett Favre with better accuracy.
