      I’m pretty sure you use toothpaste to brush your teeth after your meal. I have braces too and I don’t brush my braces after my meal because I guess I’m lazy so I just use water to swish around in my mouth lmao. I recommend to brush your teeth after breakfast so you can get the food out. It’s up to you.

    You had mentioned a waterpik instead of flossing, do you reccommend using mouthwash with said waterpik? Also is a waterpik a good idea if you currently have sensitive gums? I just got my braces on today and I’m struggling with this floss! 😬

    • @PremierOrthodontics
      @PremierOrthodontics  3 года назад +13

      You can use regular water or mouth wash. Water is cheaper so it may be the best option.
      The waterpik should help reduce the sensitivity of your gums over time. There is usually a low power setting you can use while you’re getting used to the waterpik

    is it normal for gums to be a little swollen while on braces and also when i brush sometimes it bleeds a little ,can it be because im too rough or...plx hlp

    • @PremierOrthodontics
      @PremierOrthodontics  3 года назад +32

      If your gums are swollen and bleeding it means that you are probably missing some areas while brushing and flossing. Swollen and bleeding gums shows that there is inflammation in your gums. The best way to get rid of the inflammation is to clean your teeth REALLY well. Try brushing them 3X a day, really thoroughly, and floss at least once a day. Keep cleaning even if you see bleeding in the gums.
      If you can do this consistently for about a week, the gums will heal, the inflammation will go away, and you won't get any more bleeding in your gums while brushing

    • @PremierOrthodontics

      Proxy brushes are good tools, but we would recommend they be used in addition to floss. There are some spaces that proxy brushes can’t reach and for these areas floss would be best.

      Its called a water flosser or Waterpik. You can find them on Amazon or at a local drug store (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.)
      They range in price a bit, but usually you can get one from $30 for a cheaper model, up to $100 for the top end models.

    • @PremierOrthodontics
      @PremierOrthodontics  3 года назад +11

      Waterpik works almost as well as floss. Most patients in braces don't floss at all, so a waterpik is a great option for those patients. But ideally we would recommend waterpik AND floss :)
