Big shout out to Ashley for the loan of his shiny new Mido. This isn't going to be for everyone, but, dare I say it, for guys who remember the '60s, this might be the perfect cup of tea. Cheers, Jody
Sadly you didn’t mentioned that the colors have a sense....
Colors fade our the deeper you get, so you have a deep meter with this dial too!
It is really a early form of a dive computer and not as senseless as you might believe!
This is very interesting and relevant info, well worthing reading up on I reckon.
Friend: wow what you're wearing?
Me: oh its the m026.807.01.051.00 bloody hell......
Then he responds with an orient serial!
most of the watches no matter the brand have long reference numbers, so rainbow will suffice :)
A fair bit out of my price range, but I love the look, and would totally rock one if I could justify it in the budget. That bezel should be better, though, at this price point. If Orient can pull off no backplay, so can Mido.
Mido is such an underrated watch maker but that watch... MY EYES!!!!
Hahaha! Turn down your colour settings.....
I agree, plenty of good ones, but this one is a bit too much...
What's wrong with you people? Must lead boring lives if a bit of color puts you off this much! It's a beach watch my friends. Not an armchair diver.
i recently heard the reason they did multi-color dials like that was because as you dive, colors begin to disappear/blend as you go deeper, so the color that was visible would indicate the depth you were around. not sure how accurate that is, but i thought it was interesting.
wow ... finally a watch with a dial matches your atlas backdrop😅
Great observation. Very true
I like mido, I had a baroncelli big date, really underappreciated and underrated watches. They make the most chronometer grade watches outside serious luxury brands
I have no intention of ever buying a microbrand watch, but I can't stop watching Just One More Watch. :)
Is Mido a micro brand?
@@winstonsmiththx1138 No, it was a general comment... once I'd posted it I realised that it was likely to be misunderstood.
Sorry!
@@philipturner8745 no worries. But I bet there is a micro brand piece out there for you! Stay safe
I can understand why someone wouldn't enjoy this watch, but boy do I love that look!
I have a Mido Multifort and love it! Great value. This one looked great with the strap with yellow stitching.
Love it! Almost bought it and the hodinkee decided to promote it. Now they are all gone of course... thanks for that.
The only thing that is slightly annoying me is the very short hour hand.
Austin Powers called...he wants his watch back.
That lug width should have been 20mm...21 is both annoying and makes the watch tubby
Crazy how Mido doesn't get much recognition, really nicely made watches! Love the vintage feel of this one!
It's a cool looking watch, but I would have preferred it if the hands were actually visible.
The one you want to review is the Mido Ocean Star GMT with the new Powermatic GMT movement. It´s reckoned to be excellent but has slipped under the radar a bit. The local hour hand jumps while the big 24 hour hand stays put, a la Rolex.
Like for your review , but the watch...😟😕😖🥴
Matches your map in the background.
Thanks Jodie. I think for that busy a dial, bigger hands are a must - it’s a bit daft if the main function of the watch is not very legible. I like the idea but these days no one uses watches for diving, especially with all the info written so small, it would be more of a hazard than a help. The colours are a bit ‘my little pony’ for me. Nice review, as always. Cheers! 👍
Wow, this watch surprised me! look very cool !!! Respect ✊
It seems hard to tell minutes, but hours look legible enough. I really like that small center dial. Lovely watch overall.
Drug dealing is how you afford all these watches right?
Shhhhhhh! Don't tell my mum!
🤣
@The Truth I'm pretty sure he's the elusive Mr x lol
@The Truth It's a joke my dude
Mido sjould have been more faithful to the original colour scheme, bezel and hands.
Been looking out for an original Fortis Marinemaster with decompression dial and internal bezel ring for a couple of years. Theres plenty on Ebay but either pricey or suspect condition. A reissue by Fortis (40mm min, sapphire/lume) would better the Mido I feel.
Love the case back and retros, but wow, that's a seriously psychedelic dial... 👍⌚
It was the '60s, man! If you can remember it, you weren't there. (I wasn't there BTW!)
Not bad this reissue 👍🏻 Ty for the review !
Mido actually are number 5 of the top 5 swiss watch makers as far as number of cosc certifications yearly. Little known fact.
Great, unique looking diver.Although older version with ss bezel does the job better for me
Meh, doesn't really work for me. On one hand the colourful dial with a reference to a vintage tool watch. But the case is all polished as opposed to the original from the sixties which is brushed like a tool watch is supposed to be. Not quite thought out imho. 🤔
Nice colours but pity about the black bezel, and really the centre could have been white like the original. Nice touches. However any new serious dive watch that has a seconds hand with no lume is bordering on stupid!
I love this watch, its retro appaerance and the colors. However I only found it on chrono24. Do I understand corectly that MIdo's stock is run out?
Scuba Dude! Yep, my Russian
roots of genealogical tree singing in my soul :)
This one 🤔, nope not for me, but the Ocean Star GMT and the All Dial are something else all together. I love watches that is something different from the norm.
I just got an Ocean Star Captain a few months ago and I’m still in love. I’ve been waiting to see a Mido on this channel, I think they’re criminally underrated.
This watch is cotton candy on the wrist! I like it, but at around $1200, that's a bit much for a "fun watch".😯
The original one looks better and you can see the time easier with the white color at the center of the dial. Other than that, I liked it. It is different, though not my thing.
I could never buy a watch that has so much going on with the dial. Too hard to read the time imo
Definitely more fun than function, but definitely fun! Cheers mate!
I love when they make bezel features
Use your phone
@@derbagger22 I like my watches to be functional. I don't see a point in wearing a watch if I can't read the time easily. It's a personal preference really
I agree, my first impression was 'it's so pretty, I want' but then realized I could barely read the time
I really love that! My Phoibos Voyager arrived this morning so I'm definitely not going to look for this on Chrono 24 👀
Can I just say that your shirt in this video is incredible.
How does Swatch position Mido versus Rado? Is one meant to be higher end than the other?
I think it's a good looking piece. Something different! Cool video, Jody ;)
Hard to believe that it's a $1000 watch.
I’d rather have 5 kilos of heroin!!
Love it, awesome,so different,3 straps.... quality,a steal at this price my opinion.thanx for sharing
To hard to read even though the colors would vanish at depth. A big NO for me.
I’ve considered Mido in the past, especially as they have many COSC certified offerings. Of course, good luck seeing one in the flesh in the U.S. But regardless, this one wouldn’t be on my short list.
That bezel sounds horrid!
1961, huh? Someone was on LSD when they designed this thing.
Without the flashy rainbow this could be a decent looking watch...
Maybe shades of grey or grey mixed with blueish grey instead of the Skittles rainbow.
It almost looks like a pastel roulette wheel. It also reminds me of slide rule watches
This is more like it Jody! IMO buying a Mido is like buying an Alfa Romeo, you know it's not the best thing on the market but they're always interesting, seldom seen and have a bit of personality.
In the amended words of Crocodile Dundee 🐊, "That's not a watch....This is a watch!" ⌚ 👀 Amazing looking. Love it
Best watch channel...by a mile.
Thank you Anthony, thanks for watching!
@@JustOneMoreWatch 200k subs on the way! Cheers Jody!
Time to turn on some Pink Floyd and eat the magic mushrooms while viewing this watch.
I rather liked the original with the brushing. I am getting tired of the insert bezels. Great review.
Yech. That one's not for me dial and hands just to hard to read.
I believe this was a HODINKEE sponsored release. I almost picked it up but the high polish everywhere and size turned me off. Love the dial however!
If you want a retro diver with a polished case and a rubbish bezel, go to Meranom and buy a Vostok just as i did.
Mido, Certina and Rado get no love. Watch reviewers seems to rave about them, but hardly anyone owns one.
This is a great summer time watch.
It is unusual and going to catch people's eye on wrist and as such be a talking point. Nice watch for a summer day and a t-shirt.
All these are sold out and now priced at above 2K from private sellers. Not that anyone wants them even at original price anyway ))
Ouch! A mate is selling his in Melbourne if anyone is keen..... Anyone?!
0:25 I would have called in the bomb squad for that one, Jody.
Definitely not for me, no sir no. Wouldn't be caught dead with it.
THAT BEING SAID, I guess this is what's so great about this whole watch thing. There's one for EVERYONE no matter what your tastes may be! Variety is the spice of life!
Halloooo btw
The designer is now drawing unemployment benefits. Frequently heard in a conversation about Mido.....”they’re great watches, but........
holy crap. I hope that Mido can include a magnifying glasses for old farts like me. dang!!!
Just feels like a Swatch to me, not my think I guess. Great review as always.
waiting for mine to arrive, bought it 3 months back :)
The watch itself is pretty cool, but that 21mm bracelet with no taper looks ridiculously chunky. And if the bezel is that hard to turn when it’s dry, it’s probably near impossible to turn in the water.
Hubertus Wolfthaler yeh I go diving with mine in the river Clyde 😂
This is damn awesome. Perfect music festival watch. I dont know what time it is but I dont even care. Gotta love it, I need one.
Really ugly watch.
Way too busy dial. Makes the skinny hour hand difficult to see at a quick glance.
Wow..... Not for me🤣👎
That's a nope from me.
Geez, a $1250 watch with a $10 mesh bracelet? Ya gotta be kidding. And you would NEVER be able to read those decompression limits when you were actually submerged, and you can't even read the time when you're above the water. And an aluminum insert? And the bezel action I can tell is awful. At that price a VERY hard pass. You can buy a Tissot PR100 COSC certified chronometer with the same movement for $300.
5LBS of Heroin would’ve also made for an interesting review. Haha. Thanks Jody
There are a couple brands on the swatch group Ladder of interested in I’ve never actually seen a nobody seems to be reviewing them but I see ads for their watches all the time
Ashley has quirky tastes it seems along with that CW, would love to see a SOTC of his.
....well I was born in 1961 - but that’s the only thing the watch and I have in common. The term “Dogs Breakfast” comes to mind...,
$1,250 USD for a timepiece with bezel issues that with more expense would have to be rectified by a watch technician. No Thanks!!
Hey Jody, could you review a Wenger Seaforce please? Looks like a decent watch. Swiss made and under 200 pound (200 usd)
Hi Jody not for me thank you, but a nice review. The dial looks like an old bull's eye sweet as you go through the colours when you suck it.
The comparison between the original dial and the new one, I much preferred the 1960's one the old watch looked bigger to.
It looks like a child's toy watch. It's well-made and has nice specs but I think that it would have been better for Mido if you reviewed one of their more mainstream Ocean Stars, not this one. Mido is a solid watchmaker and has solid offerings that don't look.... Well, it's not hideous, but looks tacky as hell. There are several other divers in its price range that I would choose over this.
I kind of like it. Not sure I like it $1250 much, but it's fun to look at.
I also like the shirt...I was wearing a scuba dude today.
Why the numbers of the bezel are in the oposite order? Cool watch but for the price a little too much for me. Maybe the movement deserved but the quality of the bezel and the dial do not look like a over 1000$ watch.
and how is a 200m watch more decorative than functional, 60 clicks bezel could never be as clicky as 120 btw
It needs a light up dial if you want to check the decompression time in the dark.........so not a really serious dive watch but interesting for sure.
A great retro watch obviously not a serious dive watch these days , the reason for the "candy" coloured rings is all to do with the human eyes, as depth increases various colours "disappear " so the relevant ring for your depth would stand out, an added safety in the days before dive computers :-) it also has a reversed "count up" bezel, one for the dedicated retro collectors I think
You might want to check out the Mido Ocean Star Tribute, same specs, same case and dimensions, better dial and better watch band...cheaper too
I like it, just needs more visible hands.
I just got mine and it looks really good. Not for everyone but it's a really cool piece.
Please review MIDO ocean star calibre 80 titanium...is it worth the money ?
I haven’t seen this channel long time... couple months ago.... but you look like so old... is everything ok? Perhaps due to no shave
Jody? Old? Shame on you.
Not my cup of tea watch strap similar to the one I have on my Vostok Komandirskie GMT.
Why on 11 on blue line of newer version it says 80 minutes of decompression time, but on that older piece is 90 minutes?
Novel watch and interesting dial.
My question is that while diving would you be able to read the slide rule? I appreciate it's a homage but I am curious.
I would never spend more than $100 on a watch. But, but, this watch! I want it so bad!
Looks decent for $250. But wait, it's $1000 extra.
The watch is a novelty piece. Its not a dive watch. A dive watch, by definition must have an indication to show that the watch is running, in most cases a lumed seconds hand
Had a couple of Midos , always good in design , always bad on quality .
I would certainly take it if you gave it to me, but I would spend my money on many other ones before this.
Great review! This one is just a bit more than I like in the color department 🙂
