  • Cold Weather Boats
Captain Cody walks around the marina and shows different boats that are great for cold weather.
    Example boats include.
Coldwater boats - These are great boats and probably the most popular among charter fishing boats in Sitka. The newest 28-foot model is only 8 feet 6 inches wide. This is great when moving the boat on a trailer but is a bit narrow in rough seas. The older 28-foot models hade wider beams.
Allen Marine Orca - These boats are built in Sitka Alaska. These are amazing boats with a large cab. Perfect for running fishing charters. Allen Maine also makes most of the whale watching boats used in Alaska.
Hews Craft - These boats are not typically large enough to hold 6 people for charters but are great for recreational fishing.
Parker - is a great fiberglass hull that heavy and handles well in rough seas. The boat cabin is not large enough to 6 passengers which does limit charter on bad weather days. The biggest Parker boats are only 28 feet in length.
Sea Sport - Sea sport boats are decent fiberglass boats. These were more popular before cold water and Allen Marine bots hit the market.
One boat that is missed is the KingFisher. This is a nice boat for cold weather as well.
Hopefully, this gives you a good idea about cold weather boats.
    Thank for watching,
    Captain Cody

@@jimpinder6385 Yes indeed! There is a hatchery of pink salmon on the other side of the marina so there are quite a few within the marina as well.

Curious on your preference between aluminum and glass hulls? I have a 20’ Hewescraft searunner and have been thinking about going to a 23’ Parker to improve ride and get out further. What do you think?

I honestly have not spent any time one either of those hulls to say for sure. However I know the the 25 foot Parker has a reputation for being able to go far offshore. It is even used on charters in many locations. If you can take the 23 for a test drive on a rough day. Thanks for watching!

Hello, I noticed most boat you profield have two motors ,as two are not necessarily better then one when it comes to outboards I wondered if this is more of a backup situation ?

    • @CaptainCody7

Yeah, there are some boats out of Sitka Alaska with one motor. Most have two motors cause the good fishing is about a 20 mile run. When that far from port many anglers like the idea of having a backup motor. On heavy boats over 25 feet the two smaller engines is typically about the same or equal for most factors. I know there are some good videos out their where people compare all the specs and operating cost differences of two 150 motors vs one 300 motor for example.
