    • @Alejojojo6

      Not for centuries, only 1 century. The Velaryons lived in Driftmark way before the doom (maybe even a century before) and the Targaryens went to Dragonstone 14 years before the doom happened. They began marrying during the century of blood, the century that followed the fall of the Valyrian Freehold. The Velaryons were the only pure-blooded good enough ones left to marry for the Targaryens. So about 125 years ago.

    The detail I love about the first vision is that Daemon was able to get out of the throne room only after asking for it with "Please". I love watching Alys give him a proper psychotherapy treatment, they portray the arc very realistically for a tv show in my opinion (and that's why I don't mind it taking a whole season, because change requires time and push-and-pull from the person going through it).

    • @Hear.myvoice
      @Hear.myvoice 4 месяца назад +4

      There are a few of Daemon's hallucinations that actually makes sense in my opinion... So the problem isn't that it's slow but they were lazy when they wrote these scenes. Doesn't add anything to his character at all.

    • @keltavuokko
      @keltavuokko 4 месяца назад +9

      @@Hear.myvoice Maybe they just want to drive certain points to home to those viewers who weren't so keen on paying close attention to him during the first season? The director even had to explain people that Daemon wasn't knowingly sleeping with his mother in the dream last ep and was horrified when he realized it. Lol, I still can't believe that it had to be explicitly said when it was all there on the screen... But oh well, maybe people will understand Daemon better now, but most importantly Daemon will have the peace Rhaenyra said he has always lacked. I find the visions very on-point. Repetitive in a way, but Daemon has a lot of stuff he has to work through - guilt as a feeling is quite nasty to work with.

I agree, though, that I wouldn't mind the scenes being more complicated, but then again, processing guilt and self-image is not a A-to-B journey but one where the person goes back and forth in loops, so I find Daemon's arc very realistic and don't mind that most of the scenes have been very easy to read thus far for me. I find his inner process captivating regardless. Maybe we just have to agree to disagree.

      There's a good amount of theories as to her exact identity/role but what IS known about her is that she is indeed a witch, multiple centuries old, and is very protective of Harrenhal because it's right at the known epicenter of the Old Gods' magic. Harren Hoare's story is a lot like Icarus mixed with the Tower of Babel. Harren commanded the building of the largest and most impenetrable castle in all of Westeros, cut down numerous fields of Wierwood trees to do it, and then on the same day the castle is completed his entire line is extinguished by the one thing they didn't account for. It's about man's pride in spite of the Gods, and I believe Alys Rivers is indeed this 'Ghost of Harrenhal' that haunts every family that takes dominion over what is essentially sacred ground. Perhaps Balerion burning Harren the Black was divine intervention, and Alys Rivers' continued protection over it is simply her carrying out the will of the Gods. Knowing all of this and also knowing the actual mysterious magic that surrounds and protects the Gods' Eye, personally I believe she's a Child of the Forest using glamour magic to make herself appear human. She has a bastard name which conveniently means she has no known parentage or ties in any family in the country.

It's a mystery in the book if Alyn and Addam are Laenor's bastards or Coryls', but it's pretty clear by their ages that they are Corlys' in the show. What this means for the laws of dragon-taming I can't really say (but in-universe no one really knows anyway). However, in the book, there is also a character named Nettles who is a commonborn person with NO Valyrian features who only knew her mother (she was also a bastard) and tamed a dragon (actually, probably the dragon Rhaena is after right now - she gets a different one in the book via hatching an egg) by feeding it sheep every day until the dragon Sheepstealer let her mount him. There is also the thought that Nettles was Daemon's bastard, but never confirmed - so if she was, that makes sense, but if she wasn't, she was just a random person able to gain the dragon's trust by feeding it (quite similarly to how the Valyrians, who were originally shepherds, first tamed dragons: by feeding them sheep lol).

    About Rhaenyra, it's been implied since S1E1 that Rhaenyra and Alicent might have been having feeling for each other as more than friends, and that's why Rhaenyra was so angry and hurt that Alicent married her father and why Alicent was so angry and judgemental about Rhaenyra and Daemon/Cole/Harwin. The actresses themselves (Mille and Emily) said that they played them like that. I started picking up on Rhaenyra and Mysarias chemistry since the first time they met again after the timeskip, but I agree that it is a little bit questionable to have the kiss right after Mysaria opening up about abuse. But I still think how the scene out was good. I don't think she went in for it expecting a kiss, she genuinely just wanted to hug and support her. And then they were both just not letting go, and Mysaria was the one who started kissing Rs neck.

      They are two very sensual people. It makes sense they’d want to explore intimacy in someone they respect. Rhaenyra said a long time ago that part of the difficulty in creating heirs with Leanor was that he didn’t desire her. She gravitates to that.

    The blood of old Valyria is what gives the traits of white hair, pale skin and purple eyes in the books, Targaryens have the blood of old Valyria and Velaryons are referred to as most mythical so Targaryens inbred to keep the traits in there line.
    Living in or being from Valyria doesn’t mean you have the blood of old Valyria so no not every family in Valyria befor the doom could claim a dragon but the blood of old Valyria is what gives the Targaryens the power to claim dragons not the other way around.
    Velaryons were also included in Targaryen breeding and it’s also said in the book that the only house they consistently had relations with were house Velaryon because the traits came from them.
    It’s also confirmed by the show creator and is why they specifically chose house velaryon to diversify, changing the thing that maid them so unique from purple eyes and white hair to dark skin and pale hair.

      Exactly in an interview for Entertainment weekly Ryan J. Condal and Miguel papochnik confirm that Velaryons have the blood of old Valyria giving them the ability to claim a dragon.
      Entertainment weekly Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Papochnik “The Velaryons, like those of House Targaryen, have the blood of Old Valyria in their veins. Though they don't generally care to mount dragons, they command the oceans on ships. It was their fleet that helped Aegon "The Conqueror" Targaryen take over Westeros years earlier. Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), nicknamed the Sea Snake after his favored ship, is the most famous of them, having traveled farther than any in Westeros.”
      "Long, long ago when he was conceiving of this world, [Martin] himself had considered the idea of making Velaryons a race of Black people with silver hair that essentially came from the other side of the ocean and conquered Westeros," he says. "That's a fascinating idea and that always really stuck with me because it's such a stark image. I just thought, 'Well, why couldn't we do a version of that now?'"
      Both Condal and Sapochnik felt strongly about featuring a person of color in a powerful position of nobility in the context of the story. In House of the Dragon, that would be Lord Corlys. Condal explains they "didn't want to do it in a way that felt like it was an afterthought or, worse, tokenism." They also wanted to avoid the recurring image of people of color showing up in fantasy sagas as pirates, slaves, and mercenaries.
      "It's not any of that at all," Condal says. "I've seen people that look like myself on screen in these types of high-fantasy stories since I was born because I'm a white guy. What's it like for everybody else? ... We went back and just looked at the story and said, 'How do we do this in a way that can feel like it's done integrally with the story?'"

    I don't read the books, but I saw a bit on social media that Seasmoke choosing a new rider means Leanor died. We saw Seasmoke circle Alyn in a previous episode, and here again. So I think Seasmoke's connection to Laenor was finally broken by Laenor's death (that would mean Leanor died immediately after his mother, Rhaenys, which makes me wonder if it was self-inflicted rather than coincidence), and Seasmoke sensed (smelled?) Laenor's Valyrion blood in Alyn (some online are joking he has a "type," but...) and decided to bond with him.
    Again, no book spoilers here, but I assume Ulf the White and Addam will bond with Vermithor and Silverwing. It doesn't seem like Rhaena is a candidate for whatever reason. I'm sure by next season, some of Rhaneyra's younger sons will be aged.

    OK I will agree with you that the moment for Rhaenyra and Mysaria to kiss doesn't fit the tone of the scene with the trauma discussion, but I do not find it inconsistent at all for her character as portrayed in the show. The duck/goose conversation occurred when she was 16. There has been plenty of time for her tastes to change, and she has always been impulsive when it comes to following her sexual desires. That said, one thing that I think frequently gets overlooked, particularly by reactors, is that Rhaenyra can ALWAYS be read as queer to some degree. She does not HAVE to be read that way, but it is a legitimate interpretation of her character based on her behavior in the show, particularly in relation to Alicent. I'm not going to say that they were secretly in love, but they were closer than average friends, with Rhaenyra even suggesting (lightheartedly) that they run away together on Syrax and eat only cake. It's the kind of extremely close codependent female friendship that sometimes forms between girls at that age, one that either burns out over time, turns into a near sister bond, or turns into your first love. Rhaenyra and Alicent were separated by duty and circumstance before that friendship could reach any sort of natural conclusion. And as a result, neither Rhaenyra or Alicent seem to be able to fully let go of each other- its one of the major recurring themes in the show. Alicent kept the page Rhaenyra tore out of her book for DECADES. Even through the period of their lives where they hated each other, Alicent didn't throw it away. Rhaenyra throws caution to the wind and goes to kings landing to plea with Alicent to find a way to stop the war even after her son's death. In a queer reading, this can be attributed to some desire for the closure they never received as children, a longing for the knowledge of what they might have been to each other if circumstances had been different.
    On another note, as many queer fans have rightly pointed out, gender roles and gender presentation have always been particularly important for Rhaenyra. I am not arguing that she is closeted trans, that is not really a concept that exists in their time and world and even if it did, they wouldn't think about it in the same ways we do. But Rhaenyra, being the first ever female heir in her dynasty, naturally has an interesting relationship with gender. In this episode, we see her say that Daemon was everything she wanted to be--free, a warrior, and a man. (On another interesting note, getting romantically involved with Daemon's former whore could be seen as a fulfillment of that desire.) Someone who would be taken seriously, who would be given respect she has never been afforded. And even earlier, in s1 when she sneaks out with Daemon in disguise, she expresses delight at being called "boy" by a city guard. Rhaenyra wants the power and respect and freedom that come with being a man in her world, not because she dislikes being a woman, but because there is a disconnect between her gender and the role she is asked to fill.
    So yeah. Mysaria and Rhaenyra kissing at that moment might have been off, but I would argue that it's not necessarily out of left field for Rhaenyra to be queer on some level, and even before this a queer reading of Rhaenyra was a legitimate and reasonable analysis, though certainly not the only possible interpretation for her character.

I think it was to show Aegon, without saying a word, that he'd removed her from the council (hence removing her ball from it, too). In 'the Rogue Prince,' it is mentioned that Laenor Velaryon had Targaryen blood on both sides, when discussing how suitable he would be as a husband for Rhaenyra Targaryen.
    This confirms Corlys as well as Princess Rhaenys both had Targaryen blood.
    CORLYS TARGARYEN MATH: Alyssa and Daemon Velaryon were 12.5% Targaryen. we know their mum was a Westeroi lady of House Massay, who were a First Men house, and their father Aethan was Aegon, Visenya, & Rhaenys's first cousin and the son of half-Targaryen Valaena's brother, he would be 25% Targ, making Alyssa and Daemon 12.5% Targaryen.
    Daemon's son is Corwyn. Corwyn is Corlys' father.
    So Daemon is Corlys' grandfather.
    That would make Corwyn 6.25%, and Corlys 3.125%. His bastard sons would be 1.563%.
    For context, Daenerys had 2.3921% and Aegon/Jon Snow 1.196%.
    So they have more Targaryen blood than Jon Snow and he could also ride dragons.

    • @hoon_sol
      @hoon_sol 4 месяца назад +1

      What is your source for the claims about Aethan and Aethan's line? His father was also called Daemon (not the same as Corwyn's father), but I don't recall any mention about their Targaryen heritage. It sounds like you're suggesting that Daemon (the elder, Aethan's father) was Valaena's brother, which would mean that Aethan would indeed be the first cousin of Aegon I and co., but where is the source for that? Can't recall having read anything about that, but maybe I've missed it.
      If that presupposition is true then you'd certainly be correct (and that's not even considering the unknown wives of both Daemons (the elder and the younger) and Corwyn, who might also have had Targaryen blood. Curious what your source is though.

      Velaryons were also included in Targaryen breeding and it’s also said in the book that the only house they consistently had relations with were house Velaryon because the traits came from them.

    “There was zero suggest that she liked anyone other than men.” Couple things Spartan:
    1. There has been suggestions that she liked women. Her and Alicent always had this unsaid thing spoken between them; especially in their youth. There’s this undertone of tension that is absolutely felt.
    2. Rhaenyra was very young when she said that comparison between her and Laenor. As a fellow bisexual, I know very well what it’s like to think you’re straight and then later find out that you’re not.
    3. Just because someone shows their interests in the opposite gender, doesn’t automatically make them straight. Unfortunately society has said that’s the case when we need to get rid of that mindset.
