Im going to test mine in the field tomorrow. Had exactly these issues with extraction last time. My gas regulator is very loose and needs no tool to adjust it. I want to test if it gets thrown off alignment by the recoil. I think your video is in the 'top notch' category of the SVT-40 videos online. Thank you
My SVT 40 Refurb has a 1.3 setting and ran pretty well. Gas system was clean and tight. I got a non refurb, no import mark example ....gas piston gunked up...selecter set between numbers. Cleaning and now uses 1.5 setting. This video should be helpfull to anybody lucky to have this rifle but not know about gas port adjustment.
Great video-do you have to disassemble the gas port system entirely to get that octagon nut to turn? Also where did you get the wrench for the nut? I tried turning it assembled with a small crescent wrench but it did not budge- do not want t force it if it can only be adjusted disassembled- hence the questions.
As I recall I got the wrench on eBay. I don’t think I disassembled it first but I’ll double check. If I’m remembering correctly mine was stiff until I gave it a good clean.
According to instructions sound rifle should work correctly with 1.3 setting. 1.5 in winter. But if you use brass cartridges instead of steel ones, there you gonna need some extra punch for extraction.
A number of viewers have had the same issues. The groove/line may be off a bit. I don’t think Russian QC was very good. You may have to tweak the location slightly. Also, from what I’ve read these rifles are very picky about the ammo they eat. 147 grain boat tail ammo works well. And, there is a part 4 to this series. It may help. Good luck
@@Sharps-im4lb so basically what you're saying is it's more important that the whole lines up with the port rather than the actual marks lining up together right?
@@Sharps-im4lb My SVT40 has cracks on either side of the stock from what appears to be the bolt slamming back against the receiver, I wonder if it's because the previous owner did not line the holes up and just lined the edge marks up and the gas had nowhere to vent
By far the most detailed explanation and up-close examination of the operating/adjustment of the gas system. Thanks!
As a owner of SVT I thank you for this info. Do not worry you did just fine. I will be watching you other videos.
Very interesting video and the best video on RUclips for this subject! Thanks for making it. It was very informative and well done.

@@Sharps-im4lb Thanks what size is it? Do you remember what you called it for the search on e bay? I appreciate the information.

What happens if the lines line up but the hole for the gas adjustment doesn't line up with the hole in the sleeve
