learning tip: once you feel a bit more comfortable with the writing systems, i recommend rewriting japanese songs using hiragana, and then entirely in katakana! (i know this is not how the alphabets are used, but it is a great practice to mix up all of the characters instead of writing them grouped like ka ke ki ko ku); i opened up bts songs in japanese in romaji and then rewrote the songs with hiragana/katakana to practice this is just what I did before i did my japanese degree to learn the alphabets in a quick and also fun way ^^
Came here to say this too! It's how I mastered Kana. I would print lyrics to songs I liked in Romaji, then rewrite them in each system. Really drove the kana into my brain.

tip for genki: memorize the dialogue at the beginning of each chapter!! my professor made us do that and recite it to the whole class, it was scary but actually helpful to feel like you can speak coherent sentences
oh yea, in my class we don't use genki, but we have dialogues as well and we don't have to learn it but we do read it in front of the class, still train to read and speak!

Duolingo drove me insane 😅Busuu teaches you using the pronounciation of actual Japanese speakers, rather than a computer. I love the style of learning, and you can correct and interact with others either speaking the language you are learning or your own language

You can think of あの like an abbreviation of あれの Basically, あの is a pre-noun adjective, so it stands before a noun, not alone Like in あの店(みせ)は安(やす)いです。 In this context, it points out the specific object out of all the other ones As for あの used as filler word - is used alone, context of the following sentence may be completely different to pointing out an object, at that time it could be used as "excuse me/sorry" Also, some people stretch out their あの while thinking, so it sounds almost like a あのう, at that time, it's used as "ummm" I think it will be easy to distinguish them when you listen to it directly I'm terrible at explaining but I hope it makes sense 🥰 Good luck with studying! 一緒(いっしょ)に頑張(がんば)りましょう 🤗

Tips to learn Japanese more efficiently: - Do NOT attempt to learn more than one language at once. If in doubt, learn the one that you're most interested in. - Repeat every letter/word/sentence out loud to get a closer pronunciation (tip from Teuida). - Avoid trying to learn everything at one sitting to prevent yourself from forgetting words. - Try to memorize kana/kanji stroke order for more efficient writing. - If you feel unmotivated and/or tired, take a break and proceed your learning after a while and remember: you can do it! - Watch anime and practice singing in Japanese. They will help you to increase your vocabulary. - Try not to skip the difficult parts of learning. i studied korean for 4 years in university and have really bad burn out now. it’s really fun to watch these study videos,, it kinda makes me want to study language again so thank you! i started studying japanese this year too but haven’t taken it really seriously in order to not end up uhhhh hating it haha

Hi ! Love your videos, I’ve been studying Japanese for about 5 months now and one advice I can give you is to write down words only in katakana| hiragana and then the translation in English (without the romaji transliteration). It really helped me getting into the new writing system thing. You kinda force your brain to read them and slowly you’ll read fluently !

Oh I love the genki books!! I used them when I took Japanese in community college it was really helpful for practicing writing and syntax. And it’s awesome because there’s videos and answer keys online to test your knowledge!! I will say though for people who are learning by their own structure and not in class, some people find it to be a bit complicated but don’t give up! There’s a strong online presence with genki and there’s people there to help :)

Watching this is so funny because this is exactly how I felt when I first started learning Japanese back in high school. Its also interesting seeing you make connections between Korean and Japanese because I did that a lot when I started learning Korean last year, since I had a good foundation in Japanese and its grammar, it was really easy for me to pick up Korean grammar and even some vocab! A good book/s is remembering the kana and remembering the Kanji. When I was learning kana, Remembering The Kana really helped me. Because it gives you mnemonics to help it get retained in your memory. And also Remembering The Kanji also does that, but with Kanji. They are both really useful, or at least for how my brain works
You just got a new sub. I've been trying to learn Japanese. I had the privilege to travel there from the end of April to the beginning of May. Made me want to learn the language even more. I'm definitely going to use these tips in my studies.

one thing I recommend is children's songs! I've been learning Japanese for the longest but I always go back to the songs to help with the little things like colors, days, etc!
i got a sudden urge to study japanese like a year ago and i got a bunch of apps and a textbook, got to level 11 in duolingo and then i realized that i don't really need japanese and i probably wont be able to travel to japan, so i stopped studying... but felt nice watching this vid, i was able to recognize all the exercises in duolingo. turns out i remember most of it? not surprised cuz i studied day and night... kinda made me wanna go back to studying, but i still need to improve my english AND i feel like trying korean again would be better cuz i consume lots of content in korean and that would be more useful, even if i don't get a chance to travel. understanding anime would've been nice as well, but i tend to watch it whilst multitasking, so watching it with subtitles is something i can't afford rn time-wise. oh, i also tried learning french on duolingo but failed cuz, once again, i figured i won't ever need it in life. but overall, reading in target language is definitely a top priority skill, so i'm glad it was mentioned. also now i wanna get a huge notebook like the one in the video (gonna ignore the fact that i already have like 10 half finished notebooks for korean lol)

Along with the individual characters, learning the dakuten (が), handakuten (パ), and the digraphs (きょ) was very helpful for me. Like, while i was learning the k column, i included the g column.
Learning Japanese right now, hiragana, katakana and kanji aren’t that hard for me (as kanji is mostly what I use in daily life🇭🇰), but grammar tho! Grammar struggles me a lot, my goal here is to finish N2 in two years and continue my study after high school in Japan

nina 💘 you don't know me as i've never commented, but i love your videos and i'm pretty sure i watched every single one of your korea vlog videos loool always wanted to go but never had a chance yet, someday 🥺🥺 but i'm literally trying to brush up on my japanese as well since i'm going next month!! it's been ages so i'm excited but also scared because i know my japanese is very rusty 😂 also once you get down hiragana really well, i recommend switching to an all japanese textbook (minna no nihongo is the one i use) because that will help you in the long run much better! i still have to look up all kanji but i make myself write everything i can in kanji since my brain sucks at retaining them lmao and genki is decent (i used those in school at college) but just so you know, some of their listening scenarios aren't translated the best and nuances are often missed. it's a great place to start though, good luck!! がんばって～！！
i can read hiragana and katakana perfectly but writing sentences is still hard for me bc of the way the words are placed and the particles u need to use, also idk many words so although i can read a lot of times I have difficulty actually understanding it 😅 that has been especially hard for me recently, loved the video

From someone thats has been studying japanese for 2 years now I would recommend using japanes sub with Japanese dub on Japanese media and doing look up whe you see a word that looks familiar. it really helps you contextualize the context of most words

I'm learning Japanese right now and I am taking a Japanese class at my college. We use the same textbooks, but something I would like to say is that learning Japanese characters is a must! With those particular textbooks, from lesson three the romanization is no longer included since by then you should have already learned hiragana. I think it's pretty neat and can definitely push you to get better at your reading skills!
This video was so fun to watch. I learned Japanese a few years ago it was fun. I took a class at my school. Recently I've been wanting to learn it again. Thank you for sharing all your resources. I'll have to learn the basics again because I dont remember a lot. I still remember a bit of Hiragana but no Katakana. Hieagana is easier to memorize because of pneumonic devices.
Sticky dry erase posters were a go to for me. They are the size of piece of paper. A little thicker than paper. They can stick to anything. Then get dry erase markers and a microfiber cloth. It was great for practicing.
If you are okay with anime suggestions, and if you like watching music anime, then I would like to suggest Bocchi the Rock. It's such a phenomenal anime on social anxiety and music and it's honestly such a great watch. I'm also attempting to try and learn Japanese, so here's to us being able to watch anime without subtitles in the future!

I'd recommend Midnight Dinner and Terrace House to watch instead of anime. They contain a lot more typical conversation and they don't speak super fast either so it will be easier to recognize the vocabulary you've learned. A lot of anime tend to use non typical language and speak with difficult accents.
I recently got into Anime a whole new world has opened up to me I'm learning so much from the Japanese culture in general. This was a great video thank you p.s. that's a quality pen you write with 🖋️

Busuu is good, but for a fast learner it might be too slow. So for fast learners reading this i also recommend Memrise ^^

Oh I love the genki books!! I used them when I took Japanese in community college it was really helpful for practicing writing and syntax. And it’s awesome because there’s videos and answer keys online to test your knowledge!! I will say though for people who are learning by their own structure and not in class, some people find it to be a bit complicated but don’t give up! There’s a strong online presence with genki and there’s people there to help :)

Watching this is so funny because this is exactly how I felt when I first started learning Japanese back in high school. Its also interesting seeing you make connections between Korean and Japanese because I did that a lot when I started learning Korean last year, since I had a good foundation in Japanese and its grammar, it was really easy for me to pick up Korean grammar and even some vocab!
Also thank you for putting out this video and motivating me to catch back up with Japanese because I have a research project in Japanese this summer I need to work on for uni lmao.

I’m learning Chinese (basically kanji) and just memorize a few words everyday and look at song lyrics and play the song cause you’ll be able to see the words you learned being used in songs and you can look for new words to learn that way to

A good book/s is remembering the kana and remembering the Kanji. When I was learning kana, Remembering The Kana really helped me. Because it gives you mnemonics to help it get retained in your memory. And also Remembering The Kanji also does that, but with Kanji. They are both really useful, or at least for how my brain works

You just got a new sub. I've been trying to learn Japanese. I had the privilege to travel there from the end of April to the beginning of May. Made me want to learn the language even more. I'm definitely going to use these tips in my studies.
Definitely check out Tofugu and Wanikani! Don't wait to learn kanji! It helps so much with learning vocab!

one thing I recommend is children's songs! I've been learning Japanese for the longest but I always go back to the songs to help with the little things like colors, days, etc!
i got a sudden urge to study japanese like a year ago and i got a bunch of apps and a textbook, got to level 11 in duolingo and then i realized that i don't really need japanese and i probably wont be able to travel to japan, so i stopped studying... but felt nice watching this vid, i was able to recognize all the exercises in duolingo. turns out i remember most of it? not surprised cuz i studied day and night... kinda made me wanna go back to studying, but i still need to improve my english AND i feel like trying korean again would be better cuz i consume lots of content in korean and that would be more useful, even if i don't get a chance to travel. understanding anime would've been nice as well, but i tend to watch it whilst multitasking, so watching it with subtitles is something i can't afford rn time-wise. oh, i also tried learning french on duolingo but failed cuz, once again, i figured i won't ever need it in life. but overall, reading in target language is definitely a top priority skill, so i'm glad it was mentioned.
also now i wanna get a huge notebook like the one in the video (gonna ignore the fact that i already have like 10 half finished notebooks for korean lol)

You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. Along with the individual characters, learning the dakuten (が), handakuten (パ), and the digraphs (きょ) was very helpful for me. Like, while i was learning the k column, i included the g column.

Learning Japanese right now, hiragana, katakana and kanji aren’t that hard for me (as kanji is mostly what I use in daily life🇭🇰), but grammar tho! Grammar struggles me a lot, my goal here is to finish N2 in two years and continue my study after high school in Japan

nina 💘 you don't know me as i've never commented, but i love your videos and i'm pretty sure i watched every single one of your korea vlog videos loool always wanted to go but never had a chance yet, someday 🥺🥺 but i'm literally trying to brush up on my japanese as well since i'm going next month!! it's been ages so i'm excited but also scared because i know my japanese is very rusty 😂
also once you get down hiragana really well, i recommend switching to an all japanese textbook (minna no nihongo is the one i use) because that will help you in the long run much better! i still have to look up all kanji but i make myself write everything i can in kanji since my brain sucks at retaining them lmao and genki is decent (i used those in school at college) but just so you know, some of their listening scenarios aren't translated the best and nuances are often missed. it's a great place to start though, good luck!! がんばって～！！
i can read hiragana and katakana perfectly but writing sentences is still hard for me bc of the way the words are placed and the particles u need to use, also idk many words so although i can read a lot of times I have difficulty actually understanding it 😅 that has been especially hard for me recently, loved the video

From someone thats has been studying japanese for 2 years now I would recommend using japanes sub with Japanese dub on Japanese media and doing look up whe you see a word that looks familiar. it really helps you contextualize the context of most words

I'm learning Japanese right now and I am taking a Japanese class at my college. We use the same textbooks, but something I would like to say is that learning Japanese characters is a must! With those particular textbooks, from lesson three the romanization is no longer included since by then you should have already learned hiragana. I think it's pretty neat and can definitely push you to get better at your reading skills!

This video was so fun to watch. I learned Japanese a few years ago it was fun. I took a class at my school. Recently I've been wanting to learn it again. Thank you for sharing all your resources. I'll have to learn the basics again because I dont remember a lot. I still remember a bit of Hiragana but no Katakana. Hieagana is easier to memorize because of pneumonic devices.

Sticky dry erase posters were a go to for me. They are the size of piece of paper. A little thicker than paper. They can stick to anything. Then get dry erase markers and a microfiber cloth. It was great for practicing.
If you are okay with anime suggestions, and if you like watching music anime, then I would like to suggest Bocchi the Rock. It's such a phenomenal anime on social anxiety and music and it's honestly such a great watch. I'm also attempting to try and learn Japanese, so here's to us being able to watch anime without subtitles in the future!

I'd recommend Midnight Dinner and Terrace House to watch instead of anime. They contain a lot more typical conversation and they don't speak super fast either so it will be easier to recognize the vocabulary you've learned. A lot of anime tend to use non typical language and speak with difficult accents.
