An aged woman named Vanthiammai is said to have been unable to carry out this duty, whereupon Shiva is said to have appeared in the guise of a manual laborer named Chokkan and offered to move the sand in her stead in exchange for puttu, which would serve as his wage. After eating the puttu, Chokkan instead fell asleep on the river bank. Seeing this, the king became enraged and struck him with a cane. It is claimed that instead of harming Chokkan, the cane blow was felt by all bystanders, including the king himself. Chokkan subsequently reveals his true form as Lord Shiva, grants Vanthiammai moksha, and causes the floods to recede. This myth is re-enacted yearly during the puttu thiruvizha portion of the Avani Moola festival at the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in the Puttuthoppu region of Arappalayam, a neighborhood of Madurai. Puttu is commonly sold and distributed at the festival.

11:52 no high caste married Europeans lol Europeans were having relationship with Ezhava, Thiyya, mukkuva mainly Arabs were having relationship with mukkuva converted mappilah. Check any historical source no high caste married or had relations with Europeans. Marrying low castes was one of reason why anglo , luso indians doesn't want to talk about their matrilineal heritage or ancestry
I have heard that low class Hindus used to work in Portuguese households,,later when britishers came then the next gen worked for them …so they are half english, half Indian, half Portuguese….
Your statement is historically inaccurate. The Anglo-Indian community didn't originate from low-class Hindus working in Portuguese households in Cochin. The Portuguese arrived in Kerala in 1498, establishing trading posts and intermarrying with local women, but these unions were primarily with Christian women, not Hindus. The Anglo-Indian community, as we know it today, emerged during the British colonial period. It consists of descendants of British and European men and Indian women, with a distinct culture, language, and religion. The significant growth of this community happened during the British Raj, not the Portuguese era. Anglo-Indians primarily speak English, follow Christianity, and have a unique cultural identity shaped by British influence. Your assumption ignores these historical facts and oversimplifies a complex community's origins.

Since I stayed 15 years in Goa and 5 years in Kerala. The Goans never called themselves as Anglo Indians but they proudly say We are GOAN. Similarly Mangalorience. You should proud of your native not the some European connection. The person given interview to the SIR name of D' Souza. It is Portuguese sir name. Whole Goa, Mumbai and Mangalore has More D'Souza, D'Costa, Pereira, D' Couta, Dias, Fernandez (se) than this Kochi. They never called them Angelo Indians but as Goan or Mangalorians. You people must proud of your homeland not the European. The most of the so-called Kerala Anglo Indians either fluent in English or Portuguese or any European language but Malayalam. They must think before addressing themselves either native or Anglo Indians.
