    personaly, i’m using a kickall from befaco and plugg it’s output to an attenuator, and then plug this output in a stereo in in my mixer, which is balances for external source.

    I went through a couple of different methods of doing kicks, first synthesising them like you did, then with some dedicated kick modules. Eventually I set my Disting to dual sampler mode and loaded a kick and snare sample into it which I stole from an old trance song. Since then I have never changed the mode on my Disting!

    Nice job. Obviously a good or bad kick is very style depended, or even taste if there is such a thing. The cool thing about knowing how to synthesize a kick is that if gives you more options. I would sample the result and maybe layer is or use it in Kick2 as a starting point.

    If you replace one of those modules with a sampler then you can save the kick drum and have it for later. Also you got a cirklon next to your rack, that's probably where your kick triggers are coming from. ;-)

  • @VacancyOfDisco
    @VacancyOfDisco 2 года назад +1

    but then maybe you want some "roominess" to the kick. So then you need to add a noise source and send that to another vca opened up by another envelope, mixed in with the dirty sine wave before going to the final vca. but then you maybe want to add some gated reverb so then you need to send that final signal to a reverb and get another envelope and invert it to turn down the amount of reverb after the initial hit. and then.....

  • @markbooth
    @markbooth Год назад

    The point being made is that you can build anything from first principles and some people do exactly that with modular as a sound design workflow for importing into their DAW. Other people prefer a performance modular rig and you most certainly would not use this first principles set up for that, and just have dedicated modules for everything. Nice walkthrough of basic drum sound design though.

    IMHO, this is the most expansive (in hp) way to make a kick. Pinging filters is easier, I think, and requires only 1 trigger or gate and a filter. Take a filter with low-mid-high pass and take one or mix them to shape your kick as you wish. Most filters I know of are also sinewave oscillators. It sounds more natural to me than using a sine ocsillator since it gives also the decay envelope on amplitude AND frequency.
