Great video, you have excellent ideas. Quick question, what object did you put your airplanes on? They look beautiful, I am in love with the design. Keep up the great work, cheers.
Thanks for the props! Great vid, I didn't watch it all yet, but I like the ideas so far (Ill watch rest tonight)... now im going to have to redo some of my rules....again :P . Oh, while I have you, your cards are leaving here tomorrow, got held up, decided to make another card. I also threw in some of that thin magnetic tape... just incase you wanted to use it.
GHG, Hi, Placing the orange technical tokens before the game starts, have you thought about putting numbers in a non see through bag and players draw out the object from the bag, and then look at a location on a chart ( piece of paper, allow your time and budget! ) which has locations. If you used numbers for your blind bag, the numbers on your chart would locate a location and then so on till all the numbers and locations are paired up. This way perhaps, it is more open and interesting to see where the locations are, rather being placed willy nilly openly. Do you in your game have the Bomber defend at 2? You may have upgraded this from the OOB 1. Oh one more thing, rolling your dice. In your example, rolling a 4 25:25. what happens when you already have these two Technology's? Do you roll again that turn? Okay, keep up with your development on AnAG40! Jon
That's a good idea for finding locations to put the tokens. The problem might be that the locations turn out to be advantageous to one side or the other in a particular game. I tried to make it so that both sides had a fair chance to get 5 tokens and each nation had a chance to get at least one. I've only played with these rules twice so I will have to see how it goes and maybe if there is a need to switch it up like you suggested. You're right about the bomber I had misspoken when I said 2. I think when you're rolling the dice if you hit 4 twice you should have to pick both weapons. What do you think Jon?
Hi.. The rolling the same number twice in our example, I agree the player should pick the other weapon. My question is, what if the same player in a later turn, rolls the dice and it lands on a number which they already have the two of? So the player rolls a four again and nothing to declare, what would you do? The player rolls again that turn until it gets a number which they haven't got yet, or your move is done, too bad! I am just curious in your thoughts GHG on that. Players fight hard and gamble spending the 5 ipc's to get the opportunity to have these up grades. In the OOB rules in AnAG40 it's too easy to just roll again till one free's up. You may as well just pick the one you want instead of rolling a die! Don't want to be here throwing you off balance because I love the dedication you put into AnAG40! Jon
My whole point in developing a new way to invent weapons was to take as much of the chance out of it as I can. Of course if you've already rolled 2 fours and now roll a third you should get a re-roll. When you look at it logically why would a nation accidentally invent the same weapon twice? They have put in the work to get the National Objective, acquired the research and payed the money they deserve to get a weapon. It's a great question and something that I never thought of until now. Do you think that 10 research tokens put down on the map is the right amount? Should it be more or less?
As this is a trial and error in your shoes, try with 10 tokens. As the game develops, you can see if really 10 is too much, or not enough or ideal. You can't judge on one game of AAG40 of course, it'll have to be a few to really see. You could then try drastically limiting the Research tokens for a few games to set the balance of really, how many is ideal for the real game. Less may be more challenging and giving players to really stretch out there strategy if they want a R&D that badly. Hope that helps!!
GHG. Can I use Italian Bomber to deliver yellow tech token to Berlin for GE to develop first and then GE can share with Italy later? By the way, heard from YG that he is two thumbs up for using your HRs for the Tues 27 Sept matchup. You may want to bring your customizations for 10 HRs which could, if you deem it, include both this Sired Blood Tech Develop and YGs VOs. Recommend those though result in a yellow token appearing where that VO is achieved but still has to get back to capital.....so more work to get the Tech?? Tef
Yes you can use the Italian Bomber. The research doesn't belong to anyone so it can go anywhere and be shared by any teammates. I ordered 14 tech tokens from IWNGU so I'm going to use those instead of yellow research markers. I will be talking to YG in the next few weeks so we will try to figure out what the plans for the tuesday game will be. I don't care what rules we play, I'm just happy to play a game at the Cliffside Bunker. Combining the 2 rules would take some thought because most of the VO's are about taking capitals. If you took a capital using my rules you can steal their research so it seems like too much if you get another weapon too. Like I said, it will take some thought.
Was playing this game when I was young. Now buyed 1940 both versions. Played for the first time now with 3 ppl. We stopt after the 3th turn. And 7 hours later! Most time eating was rules learning. And the administration! Think customize items is a need to reduce time and make it more clear.
A couple questions about transports: Does the research token constitute an occupied space on the transport? Or can you say put two units AND the token on a transport? Also, what happens to the token if the transport is sunk?
The token represents a briefcase full of research. It does not take up any space on the transport. If the transport is sunk then you can decide if you would rather leave the token in that seazone or destroy it. As long as the players agree before the game begins then it should be ok. If you leave it then anyone can pick it up. You will find that it is much easier to move it across the water by bomber.
GHG. Not sure why Italian transport could not have been used to bring token from Sicily? Since we are rushing into next game without HBG red and yellow tokens, looks like we'll use the little cardboard chips from the 1941 Game....red and green for red R&D and gray for yellow N.O. R&D. Tef
You can use the transport but the problem is that UK will take out the transport after it drops infantry on Sicily. Remember that the infantry and the transport must end their turn after dropping off in Sicily. With transport sunk there's no way to get infantry and research back to Rome.
GeneralHandGrenade i dont understand. i thought the SFU on Rome can paratroop into Italy and then be picked up by the transport in same turn. but,. oh forgot, SFU can only paratroop into combat, right?
That's right. Or can paratroop into friendly neutral to annex them. My goal was to not make it too easy or to at least jump through some kind of hoop to get tokens. Although the one in Sicily is the closest to a capital I think it might be the trickiest one to get. One thing you could do if you're using SFU's is send the Italians after the research in Greece. Take your transport and drop units off there along with the ones in Albania and SFU. Non-combat move an infantry into Yugoslavia and make sure there is an infantry in Northern Italy at end of first round. In second round non-combat SFU and research token to Yugoslavia, Infantry and token to N. Italy, Infantry and token to Rome. Leave the Research token in Sicily to the German air like I did.
Cannot dedicate those GE A/C to Sicily though and still acccomplish sealion on Rnd 3. Choices!! What about takin the Iraq marker with SFU and dropping Hvy TNK on Trans J.? That would block Suez as well. Might have to Paratroop into Tranny as well since that's kind of an amphibious even though no one is there. Possible to modify Hvy TNK HR to say that landing TNK where there is no oppposition is OK?
You can get the blue tokens by themselves or a better idea would be to get a whole set for Global 40 here; www.historicalboardgaming.com/1940-Acrylic-Upgrade-Set-76set_p_2807.html The cities came from an old game called Fortress America. I don't use them anymore. Now I use a set of these; www.shapeways.com/shops/ebardmodels?section=Axis+%26+Allies+Capitals&s=0
GHG. Just bragged to YG about your "republican" style (i.e. earn your tech) R&D rules you co-opted from Siredblood. 😉 So glad to get these in time for Valentines game. Gen Mark and I will use them combined with the YG V. O.s in the Volcano Garrison. However, even with the V. O.s, we will still fly them back to capital and require cost to retool factories.
One thing not clear, Can N.O. markers be re-used? I just finished 8 round game where JP never possessed more than 2 N.O.s for entire game. Once they use each yellow R&D token, how will they develope shared tech from Germany? Also, how will they R&D V.O. for getting Axis over 136 total IPCs if they haven't won a third token? Perhaps they need to earn it by taking Outer Perimeter or conquer China Larry Harris N.O.s?
I think I may have misunderstood you earlier. Of course you can reuse the tokens. As long as you achieve a N.O. you get a yellow marker but you can't possess more than 2 at any one time. So if you have 2 it doesn't matter if you achieve another N.O. you will only get the money for it and not another token.
GeneralHandGrenade definitely need clarification here. isn't the yellow marker out of posession once it goes on the 5 IPC chip alongside the red marker? If i then possess 3 N.O.s (even if earned on previous turns), i would think i get to take on possession of a third yellow marker making total inactive markers equal to two but totalling 3 if you include the yellow just put on the chip to develop the Tech. is this correct?
GeneralHandGrenade ohh and reuse would simply be a function of bringing yellow marker out of retirement if one lost an N.O. and then regained the N.O. again
GeneralHandGrenade THANKS!! I’ve been watching all your strategy videos, just finished G1 Barbarossa. I’ve been playing for about 15 years, and I’ve got some serious game time under my belt. I’m working on building my own table and adding as many of these customizations as I can!! Can’t believe I haven’t been part of this community until now!!
I really like the idea of a research token you can place on the board to show you have the long range aircraft research or whichever one you have. I've used power point to make research cards to distribute when research is successful (4 each). However, the cards kept off the board still get forgotten sometimes. Also like the " go watch a cat video" comment. Keep up the good work!
One idea I thought about was using them for YG's Victory Tokens. When you achieve one of those you get a red marker to develop for free on your next turn without having to pay the N.O, token or the 5 IPC's.
Getting Marshall Is token with J1 attack very easy if Japan attacks Pacific Fleet at Pearl. Prince George BB takedown will require use of TWN FTR in order to divert the bomber. Pearl easier now because bomber clenches the quick win. Even enables stronger IJF presence to hold Honolulu....unless US wants GE to walk all over U.K. And Africa. Hmmm....adds clarity to Empirial decision to go after Hawaii early.
Yes this is the most frustrating part of the game, wasting IPCs on research dice. My solution is to reward you for buying more research, ie buy 1 dice need a dice roll 6 to be successful, buy 2 dice need a 5 or 6 to be success, buy 3 dice 4,5 or 6 is success. Two 6s means you have developed an Atomic bomb, three 6's means the Nazis can build a base on the Moon.
So 1 question what happens to the orange marker after it's used? does get sent back?
What about a orange research token if you capture a enemy capital
The "shared" system (and the reason to not share) makes multiplayer more interesting also.
Great video, you have excellent ideas. Quick question, what object did you put your airplanes on? They look beautiful, I am in love with the design. Keep up the great work, cheers.
They're called flight stands. I put a link in the description box just below the video where you could get them. ^^
You should allow the research to be "passed on" to a submarine as well (since lots and lots of secrets were actually passed that way)
Thanks for the props!
Thanks Sired. I'm sending your custom infantry tomorrow morning. I love the way your tokens turned out in my game.
I like the Anniversay rules, you might get unlucky but you will get it eventually.
What do you do if the die roll hits something that the nation already has both techs?
GHG,
Hi,

Thanks Hambone. It worked out really well having the tokens on the board.
if a country liberates another then research could be shared as well The best house rule for a game that ive seen
AFAIK, he would allow any allied nation to share with any other allied nation. So that means that the answer would be yes by default.
red marker - nuclear weapons?
I'm not sure what to do with them yet but someday it'll come to me.
GeneralHandGrenade the choosing Idea also makes sense
GeneralHandGrenade or put 2 on the board and when one claims it all the powers on one side gets it
