- I take a walk in Jersey City's Journal Square neighborhood. It is named for the Jersey Journal and also home to a Little India / Little Bombay on Newark Avenue from Kennedy Boulevard to Tonnelle Avenue. It has many transportation options and is easily accessible by the PATH train which has a station in the area.

Thank you so much for this Jersey City tour.. I was born and raised in JC, but haven't lived there for many years. Yet, the city still holds a precious spot in my heart.
Same❤
Newark Ave and Kennedy Blvd ❤
Same here. Grew up on Kensington Ave between JFK Blvd and Westside Ave near Lincoln Park. Always has a place in my heart.
Same❤
I've seen these specific areas!
Nice walk in the nice neighborhood , New Jersey’s Journal Square /Jersey City !! Sure does look nice with all those stores and quite nice looking houses ! All , together very enjoyable video ! Thank you A K for sharing 👍!!!
Much appreciated, glad you enjoyed the walk through the Journal Square area
@@ActionKid I sure did ! It looks great neighborhood !!
@@jarihult it's not! Trust me!
@@jarihult its a shit hole lol
I grew up in Jersey City and it’s crazy to see how much Journal Square has changed over the years, back in the 90s it’s was Mcdonals , a music store and KFC there by the path station. The 7-11 was a discount store. No high rise apartment buildings nada.
Also when you get on JFK BLVD by the church it used to be a hair school named Natural motions and right across from it was a popular clothing store named Extreme. I have so many memories of the old Jersey City
Music Station❤
I'm originally frm Jersey City born and raised all my life then moved to GA but JC NJ, will always have my heart ❤️
Jersey City NJ will forever be my ❤️ and my home.
Interesting. People say the same exact thing about Pittsburgh when they move away. There’s something magical about the northern cities that’s missing in the southern cities. Most of the southern cities are basically bland suburb like environments and cookie cutter
Oh gosh I remember living in Jersey City Heights and going to Journal Square for shopping it have changed throughout the years for the better now they building these high rise apartments complex in the area of Journal Square..
I still have to visit the Jersey City Heights!
yeah its a lot more expensive now lol
I’m from Jersey City, NJ and I can relate so much to this vid
Great tour. I grew up in Jersey City and basically hung out in Journal Square, 3 brothers pizza, friend of Jersey Journal employee. Grew up in the Hudson Gardens.
What a nice walk. I have been to Jersey City a million times but never the neighbrohood of Journal Square. It reminds me of the City I live in. That movie theater was gorgeous. Enjoy the rest of your week, Ak!
Now you got to see the Journal Square area! There's many different parts to Jersey City. I still haven't visited The Heights yet.
@@ActionKid Yes! Looking forward to your next Jersey adventure.
Loved going to Pumpkin Hill for my children's clothing !! Also l really miss that pizza place 😕😢The best pizza 🍕!!! My late husband grew up in Duncan Project's and 440 .Missing him and Journal Squere sooo much
Enjoyed the clip. Im from Jersey City & lived there 1959 until 1990. My cousins lived in the Marion section nearby where this video was filmed
Any idea why its called Brett Triangle 2:15
Ramada Inn @3:31 years ago was the Mayflower hotel
11:05 I'm going to have 2 check out MOMO'S Kitchen next time I'm in J.C.
I did not know this until this very moment: The street was probably named after a John Tonnele, who died in 1852, or one of his descendants. Information on the Tonnele family is sparse, but at least some of them lived in Jersey City, where the street now runs.
I didn’t know Journal Square was so big , thank you AK xoxo
It covers quite a large area!
Thank u for takin me back home, I Miss it so much.. born an raised for many yrs...
I Miss my mom so much, an this just brought back so many sweet memories, Plus your Central Ave video❤😪
Oh man, I haven’t been to Journal Square in years. It’s so much nicer now. Thanks for sharing AK!
You're welcome!
What is so nice about journal square my friends? Are you serious? I guess you really haven't been there for a while.
It's not great ok.
Holds special memories for some of us!
7:20 I remember when they build that 12-story building in the early 2000's. It used to be a theater.
Came over from London a few times between 2002 and 2010. Visited the Loew’s Jersey Theatre, the main reason for my first visit. Landed at EWR airport, then came to Jersey City by PATH. Stayed at the Ramada bought several meals from Deli + in the PATH station, and had breakfast at Mc Donald’s. Also came over a few days after it opened to see the NJ Transit River Line, took PATh to Newark Penn Station then train to Trenton and River Line to Camden. Took PATCO over the river to Philadelphia then came back via Septa as I wanted to pass through Croydon PA as I line in Croydon England.
I remember the Jersey Journal sign, and there was a similar red sign on a roof nearby which was for a bank. I remember seeing that one being removed as the bank had been taken over.
I like the area, but I wish they’d get rid of some of the junk, sign poles etc littering the sidewalks.
Also there was a farmer’s market in the square on some days. The new PA5 cars had recently been introduced on PATh the list time I was there.
Would like to come over again but I doubt that I will now due to age, poor health, lack of money and passport expiring soon.
I live a few blocks away..but it is just beautiful, besides the noise and dirty streets, do you hear? The sounds of people of different nations, different languages and different accents all in one street!
Another nice video. Thanks for posting.
This is a great area in New Jersey. I caught in a snow storm in 2021 at Journal Square 😮
Wow! Newark ave. really changed!😳
Even though I walk these streets every freaking day here I am watching this video 🤣🤣
Grew up in this neighborhood in the 80-90s along with newport mall fond memories. On Magnolia there was a hidden Staircase at the back of a parking lot that led to a pizza shop on the other side. i used that shortcut many times on dates i would magically Appear it was impressive for a 12 year old lol. Riding bikes and rollerskating with my walkman in the 80s was childhood perfection. those streets were full of care free kids playing i feel like the news has stollen childhood freedom so much fear these days. We would play games till 10pm some summer nights.
Born in jersey city grew up their love journal square shopping and the hotdogs stand
🙏thanks for sharing🙏

Cool Video. Thanks for sharing. 👍

AK you should also note that this area really lights up for Diwali. Its a site to see and anyone interested should visit during that time!
Salute to Boulevard Drinks. Best hotdog in Hudson County.
That was a fun relaxing stroll through Jersey Journal Square. I enjoyed seeing the old architectures and the Indian shops and restaurants. 😍 Hope you tried the food from one of those restaurants. 😋 Thank you for sharing this video, AK! 🤗

Yikes! That tiger 🐅 looks hungry 😋 and I can see why look at all those restaurants delish. Very fancy part of town. So kool AK this is the place to get a great Indian meal , and by the looks if it you won't be disappointed. Great walk
You won't be disappointed getting a meal from here.

Lived in the area a year ago. Initially I didn't like it...however over time it grew on Me. Clean..some nice restaurants...different vibe than Manhattan in a good way
@Actionkid will you be returning to Branch Brook park in Newark for the cherry blossom trees this year?
White castle baby! On arab Avenue 🤙
At 7:35 you show the former location of Lot Less. You passed the current location at 6:54 - they just moved up the block. 🤣
Is the canton still there?
No
Where they filmed To Wong Foo Thanks for everything Julie Newmar
OMG I remember
This is my Block, UPS to drop off packages and Little India to pickup Indian food
Come to The Heights for Polish food.
@@englishcountryside4581 Jola Polish Deli!!,

V good my back home.
Ah *Jersey Bounce*
Song by Ella Fitzgerald
Why didn't you stop by Blvd. Hotdogs ???
They filmed the Joker at the Loews movie theater. Jersey city is also
The home of Frank Sinatra. He was born in Hoboken but lived in jersey city and 2 of his 3 kids we’re born in jersey city
On Audubon Ave, between da Blvd and Bergen.
Yes, Frank Sinatra took his first wife on dates to the Loews theater. So said the theater’s tour guide.
@@englishcountryside4581 I know. I was born and raised in jersey city
The intersection you started the video in is called indian square not journal sqaure
Ahh good ol journal square. It seems like just yesterday I was assaulted by a homeless person while attending Saint Peter's University
👏👏👏👏
I live near there…you’re not in journal sq yet
Action Kid: Tonnele Ave is pronounced: TON-A-LEE, In one quick speaking tone.
Thanks!
It’s so interesting to see all of these nice comments about Jersey City 😅 no one originally from here thinks it’s that great lol.
I definitely Miss it! My Birth city.. Elem school, My teenage yrs.. High school.. I miss it all!!
So around the corner from my apartment. But where are the hobos
Is it safe ? Seems dangerous in the comments
there are safe and dangerous areas in the city. but any areas associated with the name mlk is not safe. journal square isn't too dangerous and neither is the indian community up north. downtown is also not dangerous either.
this is all based on my experience with the city back 3 yrs ago
Why are they honk?
That is the culture in the northeast folks are highly impatient.
The Tube Bar & Red ! hello can I speak to Ben Dover ?
der buchhandel berlinn germany
Fun little fact about Jersey City. Jersey City is the fictional basis for Gotham City in the Batman comics. Go watch the new Batman movie and let that sink in.
Amazing video. You should do Bayonne and unión city/north Bergen.
What i liked most is to see all bussinesses have a great 3D logo name that stands out.
Each is unique and colorful with beautiful writing. Of course i liked that this was an Indian area. Relaxing little walk!:)
Glad you enjoyed the Little India as well, it's my favorite part of Journal Square
India way on Newark Avenue and a small section of Kennedy Boulevard near Newark Avenue are the only Indian sections including some residential blocks. The Indian Section has great Green Grocers with a plethora of fruits, vegetables, herbs, skin, spices, skin care and some housewares, nuts, dried fruit, dairy and loads of FRESH CILANTRO. Apna Bazaar and Patels Cash and Carry along with restaurants, jewelers, Doctors Offices. During the height of the Pandemic no Indian stores and restaurants closed and food was always available. The Stanley Theatre has a rich history and is a Landmark. I love my Town.
These are indeed my old stomping grounds. I stomped them daily from about 1993 until late 2001.
Great!
Ditto!!
The Indian Restaurants and Stores on Newark Ave of Journal Square are fantastic! Authentic and so fun to explore. The Jewelry stores have great quality Gold and Gems. I use to go to Yoga on this street.
Yes, this area is an absolute gem for Indian stores and restaurants.
Rasoi is my favorite restaurant on that block. They get it right every single time! 😋
I used to hang out there a long time before it was cool. Doesn't look too different now. I thought it would be fancier now, with the rents sky high in NYC.
show newport mall...I worked there in the 90's
What I primarily learnt from this video: They do have honks in New Jersey City.
I've never walked over there. Haven't been in NJ since the pandemic started. 1st time seeing that area.
wow lots of memories
Currently live in Jersey city and seeing the place I go too every week with friends on RUclips is wild
Thanks for taking me back home. It's been a long while!
Glad I could do it!
Same❤
Nice Video👀👍Thank you🌺
Lovely views
Grew up in Jersey City. Remember the "Linda Shop" on Bergen Avenue, and on Central Avenue. Beautiful residential neighborhood around Lincoln Park. Loew's Theater was beautiful and being restored. Danny Mack, Barney Stock shops, State Theater, Jade restaurant, Koss restaurant. My home is still standing on Kensington Avenue. Great memories!
Great video
Hey jersey city. Im from Jersey city. 20 minutes away from the square on jfk
Quite an interesting neighbourhood in NJ...thanks for sharing AK...stay safe
Thanks for watching!
Nice Video! Greetings from Germany!🇩🇪
Ty again .Many yrs since I have been there. Wow things have changed!
Jersey has changed so much
21:10 That's an Indian restaurant, "Mithas" which means "sweetness". Thanks for the virtual tour brother. 👍
Excellent
Oh please. Nobody wants that around
It's a Kiosk !
Is global warming still a problem in this clip?
Because most pictures taken in wintertime have snow.
Make a video using the path train!
nice to see you in my home town
It's pronounced "Tun-nelle" like your saying the word "ton" or the first syllable of "tunnel".. Confusing, I know, bc of the spelling "Tonnelle"
I grew up in Jersey City and it has changed, I almost didn't recognize it.
Used to live in journal square. Grungy but still a great place to live. At least sleep and commute to downtown for work.
Marcelina Expressway
❤❤❤
That clock tower is on the bell tower of St. John's Catholic Church.
Why do they call it Journal Square? Journals are rectangles
It looks like a good place to relax and look at the food you never heard of Thank you Action kid
You're welcome!
Would love ❤️ to visit that neighborhood AK especially with all that Indian food 😋 that I would love to try
Yes, you should try it!
You really cannot imagine what a shit hole the place is
