Four years ago I did a one hour Revo trike lesson around Lake Tahoe with Paul Hamilton. It was a life changing event. I’m jealous of you guys.... living the dream....congrats
Hello Mike, quick questions... how much you expend on the annuals and do you have a transponder or are you using a stratus/scout ads-b device? I just started planning to purchase a RevX/Revolt within 10-12 months. Great vids, thanks!
Hi Marco, We had the annual done in Dec and a retired A&P came out to our hangar to do it. I had already removed the upper and lower engine enclosures and pulled the set pan so he had easy access to everything. Larry does a great job providing documentation (checklists) for the 100hour / annual for both the carriage and the wing. I had to do some digging to find a decent checklist for the 912IS. The Revo only had 25 hours it. I elected to go ahead and do the annual early so I wouldn't have to worry about it in the spring when I can be out flying. Since it was so easy, the A&P only charged me $150.00. We do have a remote Xponder tied int the iEFIS and we use an Echodat to get the ADS-B function. As a backup I fly with Foreflight and a Stratus II. I love our Revo, it is a fantastic machine. Personally, I would suggest going with the Revolt vs the Rev X. I get board flying by myself all the time and sharing the love of flight with a passenger keeps things fresh and exciting. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi Mike thanks for your respond... if you don’t mind me asking what are you doing with the insurance part? I found out that only 1 underwriter company insures them (Starr) and premiums are $4k+!
Marco, We only carry liability insurance through Starr. The Premium for the lower coverage is about $600 / year. but Jeff and I are high time pilots. (GA). The hull insurance for our Revo was coming in at about 6K per year - and by the way, that is with a 10K deductible! It just didn't make sense. I reach out to Falcon Insurance about once a qtr to see if any other companies are covering the Revo. So far Starr is the only one.
Mike Whitson is crazy how the insurances are for trikes, as a curiosity I did a quote the other day with my ins co. USAA that referred me to Falcon and then they went to Starr, the quote was $4k for a $75k hull value coverage. I read that others are just insuring their trikes as a ‘not in motion’ aircraft just to make it cheaper and with some kind of protection. Is that what you meant with just liability insurance?
Marco, Our hull value on the Revo is $120,00 so that is why the hull insurance is so high. Liability only coves something else ,not the Revo. Most airports require liability insurance if you are going to rent a hangar. If I should taxi into another aircraft on the ground, the other aircraft is covered and there is some medical coverage for you passenger but I would be paying for the Revo repairs out of pocket. I would love to have hull insurance on the Revo but it is too expensive as you have seen (considering a $10,000 deductible) My goal would be to avoid a total loss. I know Revo repairs would be expensive - - it is a gamble.
Mike Whitson I will probably bother you with more questions in the near future... thank you very much and keep uploading those great videos... safe flights!
