Beau is Afraid is one of the few movies that DESERVE to be 3 hours. Between its narrative of a complicated family relationships and all the surreal non-sequitur sequences that happen throughout the flick, There is a lot to unpack just by viewing it once. It is an absolute icon

although something tells me a bunch of directors didn't sign a letter praising the film and sent it to Ari Aster.

I ate a medium dose of mushrooms in the parking lot before the movie and saw it in an empty theater as well. I had the time of my life

I know a lot of people will disagree, but I think that this film is a cinematic masterpiece, and here's why. The narrative. The narrative while odd, is something that I appreciate. I like movies that make me think. After I left the theater, I was wondering what was real, and what isn't. I don't think I've ever seen a movie that has made me feel that way afterwards. Two. I think the cinematography and art direction in this movie is phenomenal. There's not a lot of movies that make use of almost like cardboard cutout animation, and live action, that we saw in the third act. It was beautiful. Lots of the camera shots, I also thought were amazing. Third. I believe that what it tries to convey, and the message it tries to bring up, is beautiful, sad, and inspiring. The movie is about anxiety, manipulation, and I feel a sense of overcoming those mental health issues, and circumstances. I think more movies need to bring awareness to people with mental health issues, because movies like this inspire me to be better to people. Instead of watching someone suffer, we can try to be kind to them and intervene in a positive way. This movie inspired me in certain ways, it made me feel certain ways, and if a movie can do that, I think it's a great film.

if you liked this i recommend Morvern Callar (2002) It's not as good as Beau Is Afraid (2023) but the atmosphere is very similar

I loved this movie. I do have some issues with the ending, and Toni was easily the worst character, but other than that, it was a beautiful, fun, enjoyable movie.

I rated and reviewed two films that I did not finish but for me it doesn't matter how well the stories of those two films resolved because I disliked them for more aesthetic reasons. The actually story seldom make or break a movie for me but bad acting, bad dialog, bad editing, bad cinematography and bad audio and lighting does. And I obviously never claimed that my rating was for the film as a whole. It's perfectly possible that the film could have redeemed itself enough to give it ½☆ boost but it is also possible that they could have gotten even worse.
