I'd honestly disagree with the sentiment that using a VHS filter or film emulation doesn't add artistic value. Art is ultimately an expression, and I think no matter how surface-level your reason for using an aesthetic is, it's still adding something. What makes these visual choices so significant isn't decided on the merit of the choice itself, nor public opinion, rather, it's the fact that YOU made it. If someone wants to put an obnoxious VHS filter on their podcast because they personally want that result, then I'd say let them do it, heck, encourage them to do it! Because if they didn't, then they’d ultimately lose something. I agree, you can overuse an aesthetic to a fault. But the faults in film make them unique, they say something about the artist who made that piece. And I think that’s too beautiful to give up

Thanks for your input! I do actually agree with you here. Every element, whether it be a VHS filter or film emulation is always at least a little bit additive to the artistic expression, but perhaps there are scenarios where an element is more effective because there was more thought put into it.
