  • Hopefully someone might find this vaguely interesting, a small video on a much more mechanical idea for the sonic screwdriver, inspired by scientific and mathematical instruments from the 1950s and 60's.
(Apologies for the awful audio but I was sat right next to a temperamental boiler recording this)

Love how much thought went into the screwdriver, making every aspect have a practical or scientific use . My favorite bits are how its attached to a wearable chain and the multiple heads that can be applied for different uses (my favorite of which is the Tesla-coil design). Nice work

You gotta be the doctor one of these times. That’s so creative and falls perfectly into the doctor who logic. You’d be my favorite lmao

This sonic would be really good if the classic series never got cancelled. New Who audiences would probably get bored easily if the Doctor had to take his time with these things. The reason the Sonic is used so often in New Who is to save time. If the old serialised style kept going then this would be a great idea.

    Now this, this is amazing.
From the aesthetic, to the intricate functions, to the construction and interchangeable heads.
    You have my respect, Sir.

Thank you! I'm planning on making the 14 different heads at some point so I'm sure I'll do a video on that (:

Your physics about light is wrong. Photons are small segments of EM waves that have specific frequencies, wavelengths and energies but they do not have mass, they do have particle light properties in that they are quantised (have a defined amount of energy) as proven by the photoelectric effect. all light is made up of photons and they all travel at 300 000 000 ms-1 that is their speed. Changing the colour of light changes the wavelength of the photons and thus alters the frequency and the energy. good work on the screwdriver btw, it looks fantastic

Wow, thanks! As much as I'd love to I don't think my manufacturing skills are up to the task - if I were to sell it, it would need to be a very precise, robust product (which it isn't really at the moment! Perhaps if I get metal working equipment I could give it a shot)

Isaac Winson-Bushby if you are able to do it , I’ll definitely pick it up (: . What would the price range be as an estimate if possible , as at the minute I’m only 14 and don’t have much money , but if I knew I could save up or plan it out , as if love to have one (:
