I wish we had bike trails and better land use here in LA so that people didn't need cars as much. This is beautiful to watch and gives those of us in north America something to aspire to as far as how to remake our cities.
are you recording your routes on komoot or such, to share with others? i'm planning to do a lot of riding in Japan in the coming years, and your route along the east coast of Shikoku is one i'll want to take someday. although my first trip i'm heading west to ride across the Seto Inland Sea. i'm really enjoying your videos. stay safe.
The shot at 4:52 across the mountain is nice! I got to experience a cherry blossom for the first time in my life this year. It is pretty magical. Somehow you just feel calm. It's like the cherry trees refuse to let you to think anxious thoughts :) Edit: your videos are always so calm! Good call on the ocean route too, the gulls, the waves, the soundscape is very peaceful.
Wonderful video! And what a surprise: Me and my fiancé also met Fanny (and her bike Woody) on our bicycle trip from Cape Sata to Cape Soya. We met her deep in southern Kyushu. Woody looks just as loaded as it did back then! Your route along the western coast of Honshu looks about the same that we cycled, so I'm really looking forward to your next video. All the best!
I especially enjoy seeing more of the culture, not just bicycle paths. My grandson lives in Fukuoka and my son in Tokushima, the starting and ending points of this segment. ❤🎉
Great sharing folks. Love to see ur routes! It’s a point of reference for my hubs and I when planning out next tour. We are doing the shimanami kaido from onomichi and ending in Shikoku next month. Funny u guys didn’t take that route…
Wow! What a wonderful way to travel. One big question on top of my head... are you riding an electric-motor assisted bike? If so, how did you find charging points along the journey?
I cycled from Fukuoka to Beppu in March, did you go via Hita and Mt. Yufuin? I ended up being given a lift up Mt. Yufuin in someone's car, I don't think I could have cycled up it.
What a beautiful ride guys, despite some awful weather! Some of those roads were just incredible, my kind of roads👍Japan is just amazing👌I was riding in 30mph winds yesterday and I was sure glad I have a heavy e bike, it wouldn't have been fun on a light carbon bike😉Not much good for touring though, unless you stay in hotels or places with power to charge the batteries...
We were not aware of that change, thank you for bringing it to our attention! For anyone else just learning about this, here is the Rohloff announcement: www.rohloff.de/en/company/news/news/reduzierte-oelmenge-fuer-oelwechsel-ab-10-2023
Man, you guys have gone so far, it seems like yesterday since I saw your videos on Europe! I'm planning a normal vacation to Japan in the future and looking forward to seeing you're other video's! Good luck finishing the Divide as well, at least that's what it looks like on your website map, that's always been a dream of mine too. Maybe one day, for now I'll just have to live vicariously though your uploads! Haha.
Thank you! Yes we're on the Divide now, planning to do a little over half of it and then veer off toward Utah. It's been great so far! Hope you have an awesome trip to Japan, it's one of our favorite places!
I’m considering some sort of ride along the southern Shikoku coast. Are there any sections of the coastal route that you really didn’t like, because of traffic proximity, which you’d suggest to route past?
Here is a gpx of our ride across Japan: drive.google.com/file/d/173e6Uiqbh19ESNi8A6Y3Gyy_z9nQQVUv/view?usp=sharing . We usually put the track on our blog but we're a bit behind.
been following your wonderful cycling trip. just wondering... do you wear special shoe on raining day or just the same cycling shoe you been wearing? how do you dry the shoe after a rainy ride or you're a spare shoe? Thanks for sharing all your beautiful cycling videos :)
We only have one pair of riding shoes. We use waterproof shoe covers when it rains, but they still wind up getting damp. We just let them dry when the sun comes out, sometimes it's a slow process!
@@RollingExistence ah.... guess that's all that can be done, I've a couple of long ride, and shoe is one of the items that been bothering me, currently I'm using cheap rubber shoe that i got from internet and is working well so far. thanks for your reply and your guys be safe out there, cheers :)
I did not expect such sceneries in Japan, really beautiful. The fact that nearly everybody in cities is wearing a mask is not something I would like, though.
日本人でも、日本にはいろいろな地域があるなあと思います。楽しい動画をありがとう。
저는 일본인이 교양과 매너가 있어서 좋아합니다. 덧붙여 아름다운 풍경
Most people will barely see a fraction of the world that you’ve experienced. Enjoy your travels and thanks for taking us along!
We feel so fortunate to be able to see the world in this way. Glad to have you along and thanks for watching! 😊

Ahhh, so beautiful this video, the tranquility… Very satisfying to watch. Thank you!

Great ride! The beach of Irino Matsubara near Shimanto City is one of my favorites places. My wife was born in that prefecture.
Amazing scenery. I lived in Kochi for 4 years near Shimanto town so it brings back a lot of memories. Shikoku is a special place.
It really is! Shikoku was a big highlight of our tour in Japan 😍
Warm greetings from the Netherlands! Many thanks for this video!
This was just wonderful
You’re both a huge inspiration. Thanks
I always Wanted to Visit any Japanese Country side . I feel nostalgia by watching your video though I never visited Japan...
Thanks for the great video coverage of your tour. I have added Japan to my list for my world tour and just need to retire and get out there. Cheers!
Beautiful ride! Thank you for sharing. This might just be enough of adventure watching.
Helloo...I'm from Indonesia, nice to watching your bike vlog
Wow, what a way to see Japan. The weather looked pretty good most of the time; glad you got a new shirt Andrew 🙂
...WOW🕵️ what an awsome thing to do....i would like to do that sometimes. Way to go u 2👍🤗
Hey! I bumped into Fanny too a few times when I was cycling up from Fukuoka to Sapporo in April/May! What a small world!
No way!! That's awesome, small world indeed!
I want to do this bicycle touring too, its my dream!. You are awesome guys

We totally agree - being among the cherry blossoms was so peaceful and calming! Glad you enjoyed the video!

Man, Japan looks great! I really need to visit
Good to hear about the availability of free camping sites…… the seared tuna 🍣 looked really good
The tuna was one of our favorite meals of all time 😋

That's awesome! Such a beautiful part of the country 😊
True.
The way begins with the will.
I’ve not lived on three continents by accident.
They both are winning in life fr❤️
Nice view I like it this cycling blog❤❤❤

Nice to see your trip is going on « as planed ». Enjoy ! 👍🏻😉
I would go to Japan just to only see all those vending machines ! Great stuff ! ( cycling there isn't too bad either I guess).
Bon voyage à vous, toujours un plaisir de vous suivre 😊
Very nice video and place. I am from Mumbai , India.

do you know that Rohloff now advice no more than 12,5 ml oil to put in

Beautiful!!
Why don't you wear the hood of your rain jacket under the helmet? Keeps you dry and the wind out,....and looks more normal 😅
Hi what app you use too find the free camping there
Many of them are marked on OSMand, sometimes they are on Google as well.
What advice would you give to a solo female traveller who wants to ride in Japan? Not in terms of security but in terms of riding in general..
Amazing trip! I'm heading to Japan tomorrow from south Korea. Can I ask about your kyushu route?
(and navigating!)
Did you build the bicycles yourself or did you purchase it from a store?
We built them ourselves.
Slime inner tubes the way to go
Do you have this ride mapped out somewhere I would love to map out something similar based off it

I have a question. Why were you changing oil? I think electric motor does not require oil changing, right?
We have Rohloff Speedhubs. They're not electric and require oil changes every 5,000km.
@@RollingExistence I see. Thanks a lot. Love your vlog.
Africa next? enjoy watching your journey!
Is it even possible to tour Japan without getting rained on the entire time? 😅
Looks amazing guys.
No
The "strange creatures" underwater you refer to are as far as I can see nudibranches, of which there are many varieties
Thank you for identifying them! We had no idea what they were
Haha, always welcome @@RollingExistence

Did Japanese food suit your taste? I hope you enjoyed your trip to Japan. From a Japanese person who is not fluent in English.
We absolutely loved the food in Japan! It's one of our favorite cuisines in the whole world!
