Thanks for taking the time to make such a comprehensive review! These PR100 cameras seem to be generic and sold by different 'Manufacturers' under different brand names and often with minor differences such as the shape of the LEDs window. When the batteries start to get low, I found that the only indication of this was that the camera would become erratic in its detection of a target i.e. sometimes it would be picked up and other times it would not. The remedy here is to make sure that the batteries are up to scratch. I fitted rechargeable AA batteries and the camera works fine with these and I charge them up again at regular intervals or whenever the camera starts misbehaving. The length of time the batteries last depends on the usage especially night usage when the Infra-Red (IR) LEDs are switched on. It is therefore not possible to say how long the batteries will last on a given charge as it also depends on the numbers of targets detected over a number of days, number of photos set, length of video set etc. I got my PR100 camera as a present and, while it always worked out of the box, for ages I could not manage to set the Date/Time correctly on the photo/video - it just kept reverting back to a default date. Eventually, after much experimenting, I managed to determine a camera setting procedure which also sorted out the Date/Time problem. I have copied this procedure below, as it may help someone out: File: Setting Up Time.txt Issue: 18/12/2021 SETTING UP TIME.TXT Camera Type: TRAIL CAMERA, PR-100, SHENZHEN HUNTING-TECH LIMITED, CHINA . www.huntingcamera.com.cn/en/products/34.html Coding Text File 'time.txt' = yyyy-mm-dd,hh:mm:ss,nnnA Example: 2021-10-26,16:40:00,312Y *** A new Micro-SD card MUST be Formatted before use. (Formatting can be done with the Micro-SD card inserted in the Trail Camera using the Micro-USB to USB2.0 connector lead provided that the Camera is switched OFF AND the Battery Box Connector opened to disconnect the Battery) *** 1. The Coding Text File example above is contained in a text file 'time.txt' for the PR100 Trail Camera and is contained in the Root Drive of the Micro-SD card. The file sets the Date, Time and Operational Mode for the Camera. 2. To set the Date/Time/Mode coding by using the USB lead connected to the Camera, first 'SWITCH OFF' and 'DISCONNECT' the Camera battery by opening the Battery Box Connector. 3. Connect the USB2.0 to Micro-B lead to the Camera and the PC USB2.0 port. 4. Create or Amend the text file 'time.txt' in the root Drive of the Micro-SD card using the 'Notepad' App to create/amend the single-line Date/Time/Mode coding data as below. The single-line coding data looks like this: 2021-10-26,16:40:00,312Y i. The format of the Date section one is: 'yyyy-mm-dd' (year-month-day) immediately followed by a comma e.g. 2021-10-26, ii. The format of the Time section two is: 'hh:mm:ss' (hour:min:sec) immediately followed by a comma and with NO space between the previous Date and following Mode section e.g. 16:40:00, iii. The format of the Mode section three is: nnnA e.g. 312Y where 1st digital number n: 1 = Photo mode, 2 = Video mode, 3 = Photo + Video mode. 2nd digital number n: 1 = 1 photo, 2 = 2 photos, 3 = 3 photos, 4 = 4 photos, 5 = 5 photos (Max). 3rd digital number n: 1 = 5 sec video, 2 = 10 sec video, 3 = 20 sec video, 4 = 30 sec video. 4th letter A: Y = show date and time on photo and video, N = do NOT show date and time on photo and video. 5. A SINGLE comma should separate each of the three sections from each other (with no spaces) e.g. 2021-10-26,16:40:00,312Y 6. 'Save' the 'time.txt' file to the Micro-SD Root Drive. 7. Delete any unwanted images in the Micro-SD card Media folder. 8. Unplug the USB2.0 to Micro-B connector lead from the PC and then the Camera. 9. The Battery Box Connector should now be closed to reconnect the battery, BUT, do NOT 'Switch ON' the camera until it is actually placed in the target position for recording AT THE SAME TIME as set in the time.txt file i.e. the Camera Processor Clock will start from when the Camera is switched 'ON' using the Date /Time set in the 'time.txt' file. Switching 'ON' the camera when in the target postion after setting the 'time.txt' file causes the Camera processor to read and set the created/amended 'time.txt.' file (LED displays one long + two short red LED flashes when first switched 'ON' to indicate the camera is reading the file to set the Date,Time and Mode). If the Camera is subsequently switched 'OFF', the current Date and Time will be lost and the Camera processor will return to its default Date/Time setting. To display the correct Date/Time, the Camera 'time.txt' file will require to be reset to the required Date/Time as described in paragraphs 1 - 9 above. The Mode will retain its previously set value. When switched 'ON' the camera can be tested by walking in front of it if required and/or left in position to observe the target area. NOTE 1: IMPORTANT! When the Micro-SD card is inserted into the Camera and the USB2.0 to Micro-USB lead is used to Read both the 'time.txt' Coding file and the recorded 'Image' files on a PC/Laptop, the Micro-SD card Data (Coding and Image) CANNOT be amended/deleted UNLESS the Camera is Switched 'OFF' AND the Battery Box Connector disconnected to disable the Battery. Do NOT switch the Camera 'ON' when connected to the PC/Laptop USB2.0 port. NOTE 2: When the camera is powered up (Battery Box Connector closed and Camera switched 'ON') for the FIRST time after a new Micro-SD card has been fitted (after switching 'OFF' AND disconnecting the Battery Box), it will automatically create a default 'time.txt' file (e.g. 2021/05/01,00:00:14,332Y) in the Micro-SD card Root Drive as it powers up if none has been created using Notepad. CREATING a 'time.txt' file only needs to be done once when using a NEW Micro-SD Card for the first time - once the file is created in the Micro-SD Card Root Drive, it can then be AMENDED as required to the appropriate Date, Time and Mode as follows. After the inital FIRST power up, switch 'OFF' AND Disconnect the Battery Box Connector in order to recode the newly created default 'time.txt' file to the required Date, Time and Mode. Use the supplied Micro-USB to USB2.0 lead supplied with the Camera to plug into the Camera's Micro-USB port and the Laptop/PC USB2.0 port. Using File Explorer, look for this Coding Text File 'time.txt' on the Camera's Micro-SD card Root Drive. Open the file and amend the 'time.txt. coding as required before 'SAVE' back to the camera's Micro-SD card Root Drive with the new Date/Time/Mode coding. NOTE 3: Switching 'OFF' the camera will cause the current Date/Time setting to be LOST and the Camera will revert to the default Time/Date (e.g. 2021/05/01,00:00:14). This can only be corrected by Switching 'OFF', Disconnecting the Battery Box.and amending the Micro-SD Root Coding Text File 'time.txt' to the correct Date/Time setting and then 'SAVE' back to the Camera's Micro-SD card Root Drive as described above. ________________

Thanks for your review which helped me set up my camera early in January this year. Having used it successfully for many months, the camera has now stopped functioning. I have new batteries and am using the same laptop to download via a USB cable. The battery is functioning as the red lights flash when I switch on & off & when I connect to the PC. Do you have any advice?
Hi got the camera working, one problem is that the pictures are god day and night, but the video records for the time I ask it to, but all these videos are just black day and night. Even when batteries were brand new.
you must have a faulty camera I would contact the seller where you bought it from and ask for a replacement or refund. I bought 2 cameras from Amazon from a Seller called Surgery I think over 3 years ago now. Though the film in photo & video seems to have a slight pink tinge to it during the day & its Black & White at Night. They are both still going strong. And battery life seems better than with the the More expensive Victure trail cam Hc100. I recently had a problem with one of them as the program buttons stopped working after 2 years so could not send back as out of warrenty. So bought a replacement camera instead. After leaving the faulty victure Hc 100 in the house in the box for a year as I thought I might get around to stripping it a part one day to see if I could get it working or use the bits for spares on my other victure cameras. It must have dried out because I put new batteries in it and it now works again. So now bring the cameras in over Winter to dry out now as Condensation must get inside after being out for long periods of time. Hope you get your PR 100 replaced or buy a different Camera. Good luck with your Trail cam Adventures.
just bought one, lovely camera. Eats batteries and seems to be on permanent PIR mode, i.e. turn it on, red light blinks and it starts taking pics instantly, well after a second! it will not take note of time file amendments either.
@@quedgeleywildlifephotograp7827 my favourite now, it was £35, easy to set up & 4 batteries last over a month @ average 800 jpg/avi per week 👍 The PR100 looks complicated!
I have one of these and it worked fine to start with but it now doesn't record video. It shows the video has been taken but it's just black. Ive regularly changed batteries and altered the work mode but to no avail.
Hi it’s says when you turn on camera that lights will flash to show its working, but I have put batteries in correctly and the Sd card is in but no light come on.
I found the light hard to see as well its the white led bulb on the camera flashes red a couple of times when you switch to the on position. Colin They are only cheap cameras I bought two of them a few years ago. But mine are still working images are not brilliant with them as seem to have a pink hue to them. But you pay get what you pay for when looking for trail cams. Found these ok if you want to leave a camera in a more public area and don't fancy risking leaving more expensive trail cams where they could get damaged or stolen. They still seem to work well for my and haven't let me down but programming the time and date a waste of time better not bothering setting the time stamp! , just set your photo & video requirements.
I got the cam for the garden, I thought it wasn’t working but when I put sd card into laptop it had videos and photos of myself looking confused, so it’s working thanks for you guidance
Hi great help, quick question when I turn on the red light shows dimly on off for 2 secs. Is that all I need, should the LED ever light up as they haven't to date and it seems to very intermittent on taking either video or images... ? cheers...
Check your batteries are not low. I use rechargeable AA batteries. Are you also setting the 'time.txt' file correctly? - to do this using the USB2.0 lead, the battery connector flap MUST be disconnected from the batteries to cut the camera power AND the slide Switch MUST be Off before setting and Saving back the file to the Micro-SD card Root directory. Unless this is done the camera Processor will NOT allow any changes to the 'time.txt' file and the Processor will NOT reset to show the 1-long 2-short red LED flashes at Switch On. Note that when FIRST switched On (using the slide switch), the red LED should display a long flash followed by two short flashes to indicate the camera Processor is reading the settings in the 'time.txt' file. The red LED is not very bright but it should not be so dim that you can hardly see it. If it is dim then the batteries are suspect. The camera 'On' slide switch should NOT be operated until the camera is placed in the target position and you should ensure that the ACTUAL Date/Time of Switch-On is the SAME as the Date/Time set in the 'time.txt' file otherwise your photo/video times will not be correct i.e. if you have set the 'time.txt' file to 1700 hours on Christmas Day then you should NOT Switch 'On' the camera until 1700 hours on Christmas Day. Switching 'On' the camera for the FIRST time after Setting Up makes the Processor read and set the 'time.txt' file which is verified by seeing the 1-long 2-short red LED flashes. If you then subsquently Switch 'Off' the camera, the currently set Processor internal Time/Date will be lost and will be replaced by an arbitrary default Time/Date INSIDE the Processor but the 'time.txt' file will retain its original setting! The Date/Time displayed on the photos/videos is always the Processor time! You therefore need to set the Processor internal Date/Time correctly again by going through the 'time.txt' Setting Up procedure which will cause the Processor to read the 'time.txt' file the next time the camera is switched 'On' and rewrite/set the Processor internal time.
@@cedricmungall5789 Thank you so much for the very detailed reply, I shall follow the instruction to the letter and see if it helps and will see what happens, I have recorded some footage but it does seem hit and miss, perhaps I should invest in high grade batteries.... Cheers
@@ahmlewis Remember that when using for night recording there will be a much higher load put on the batteries because the 26 Infra-Red (IR) LEDs will get switched on when a target triggers the camera. If the batteries are low then they might not be able to supply the current for this and the camera could shut down. Try using the camera during the day (the IR LEDs won’t switch on during daylight), if the camera works OK in daylight then I would say it is a battery power problem. I posted a complete ‘Setting Up Procedure’ in my first comment on this video - might be worth checking out. Stick with it - it took me ages to get it working properly! Once you get the hang of the setting up it works OK!
Invest in a better camera Best option. Remember these are cheap and not that great but do the job and if in a placed where the public may damage the camera or steal it you, have not lost to much money. For a cheapo cam they do the Job.
A very helpful video thanks. Being new to this, and having found the memory card supplied is faulty and stuck on write protected, - if I buy a new card will I need to create a new TIME file on it and is that easy to do? Thanks for any help.
I thought my memory card was faulty and bought another one- (actually it was the USB that didn't work). Once I had used it in the camera the time folder appeared.
Leaves can some time cause a problem best to make sure the camera has a fairly clear view to reduce false camera actions. Same system as a security camera has a movement sensor. Usually only triggered by animal/bird movements in front of sensor.
hello, your video is very useful but I'm facing a problem with the date, time and code I don't know what exactly to write. I hope you will see my comment soon. Thank you
I have purchased one of these cameras. When I turn it on all that happens is that the red light flashes 5 times. Has any one found what this indicates?
Well I think I just fecked that up now have no time video ect on sd card and it wont record or take photos any ideas I formated the sd card to factory settings 🙈
What is the best format to use on these card for videos and photos. I have tried religiously for a week on different for mats, but it doesn't seem to pick anything up once I have out at night. It shows me putting out the food and then it's morning???????
Check your batteries! Best checked when a load is applied to them. I use rechargeable batteries which saves a lot of hassle in determining if they are fully-charged or not. If it is only detecting large bodies such as yourself, have you taken off the protective transparent film covering the lens of PIR Detector at the bottom section of the camera? It is marked 'Remove before use'. If the 'no-targets' problem mainly occurs at night, then, when a target is detected the Infra Red (IR) LEDs are switched On. The IR LEDs draw a fair bit of current compared to the other low current components in the camera. If the batteries are 'low', they will be unable to supply the current required by the IR LEDs and this will cause a voltage drop in the power supply which can cause the camera to shut down. When the camera 'shuts down', the IR LEDs will go off and so reduce the current drain load on the batteries. This load-reduction causes the battery voltage to rise and everything looks normal because there is now only a low current drain and the battery voltage is high. It all goes pear-shaped again the next time the IR LEDs come on when a night target is detected. I usually check AA batteries by BRIEFLY shorting them with a Multimeter set to measure up to 20 Amps DC. If the current flow is found to be reading over 2 Amps then the battery is in reasonable condition. This is a much better method of testing than by just measuring the no-load voltage across the battery as it puts a severe load across it. DANGER: NEVER DO THIS TEST ON LEAD-ACID BATTERIES e.g. A CAR BATTERY OR ANYTHING CAPABLE OF SUPPLYING HIGH CURRENT!!!
@@quedgeleywildlifephotograp7827 i tried that:) but it "forgets" the settings. (i normally take the card out and plug into my laptop) I found that if I connect it via the usb port it works😀
Not sure Gary have you checked card is installed correctly? They are only cheap cameras so you get what you pay for I guess cheap is not always good. Not the best but have been lucky with the two I bought. They have worked Ok and have lasted longer than a couple of my more expensive trail cams.
As far as I'm aware after buying only two of these cheapo Trail cams the PR100 Trail Camera the files are created as via the camera itself when you put in you SD card in to the camera. If it does not make sure you put the SD card in correctly. If it still does not work I would send the camera back to where you bought it from as must be faulty. I had a slightly more expensive trail cam by Victure an HC100 and the OK or enter button has packed up after a year of use making the camera useless now ! Unfortunately its just out of warranty so can't send it back.

"I am having an issue with getting the SD card to work in my pc/tablet." are you using a card reader or the cable to connect the PR100 to the laptop? " I am only getting two dim red lights. No white light. " On where the camera or laptop?? "I have a 32 gb. Sd card. But i am not able to get it to come up on my PC/Tablet also," Maybe you have a faulty card or do not have the card installed properly to read it. "how you set it up to record?" If you have installed the SD card the right way round in the PR100 you just switch it on and it will record 3 photos & a 30 sec video as it's default is set to do that. watch the video on changing settings. Hope this helps questions were a bit vage.
think its 1 should be in the little book you get with the camera. Was not that hard to read once I found my reading glasses as seems very small the writing in the booklet.
My advice to anyone researching this cam is to buy something more expensive, reliable and trusted. Seems like the reviews are 50/50, some hate it, some say it's okay for $35. Why spend the $ & have to buy another one a few days after you realize this 1 is crap.
Thanks for taking the time to make such a comprehensive review!

This can only be corrected by Switching 'OFF', Disconnecting the Battery Box.and amending the Micro-SD Root Coding Text File 'time.txt' to the correct Date/Time setting and then 'SAVE' back to the Camera's Micro-SD card Root Drive as described above.

Thank you for explaining this camera so well😊
Glad it was helpful!
just bought one, lovely camera. Eats batteries and seems to be on permanent PIR mode, i.e. turn it on, red light blinks and it starts taking pics instantly, well after a second! it will not take note of time file amendments either.
Found that out too with one of mine time stamp not setting. They are Cheap though not the best quality camera's
Found the Victure HC 100 a better Trail cam but more expensive.
@@quedgeleywildlifephotograp7827 my favourite now, it was £35, easy to set up & 4 batteries last over a month @ average 800 jpg/avi per week 👍 The PR100 looks complicated!
hi great video very helpful!. But you haven't mentioned what the "y/n" does?
I forgot Sorry Y/N is Time stamp ON or Off on the Video or Photo as far as I'm aware
Hi, I bought this camera trap but I can't get it to work. How come when I place it she starts at night without recording anything?
Maybee wrong format at the sdcard ?
I have one of these and it worked fine to start with but it now doesn't record video. It shows the video has been taken but it's just black. Ive regularly changed batteries and altered the work mode but to no avail.
Only thing I can think of you can do is to check your settings on Time stamp file just encase its set to photo only
Hi it’s says when you turn on camera that lights will flash to show its working, but I have put batteries in correctly and the Sd card is in but no light come on.
@@cedricmungall5789 Yep, cheers again very informative...
You're welcome!
What makes it work - does this camera take pictures when a leave moves in the wind?
Leaves can some time cause a problem best to make sure the camera has a fairly clear view to reduce false camera actions. Same system as a security camera has a movement sensor. Usually only triggered by animal/bird movements in front of sensor.
I was told that these cameras work off of movement and body temperature, whether it's a human or an animal.
Help!! Bought a trail camera but do NOT have a computer. How can I set date and time? Have put SD card into my tablet but no option comes up.
Sorry cant help there you Need a Laptop or Computer with those cameras
hello, your video is very useful but I'm facing a problem with the date, time and code I don't know what exactly to write. I hope you will see my comment soon. Thank you
Should be in the Paperwork that came with your camera it was with mine when I had one.
since i formatted my sdcard i cant make the cam to record on the sd card.can someone help?
I have purchased one of these cameras. When I turn it on all that happens is that the red light flashes 5 times. Has any one found what this indicates?
it is to let you know its turned on ready to take photos
@@quedgeleywildlifephotograp7827 Thank you
Well I think I just fecked that up now have no time video ect on sd card and it wont record or take photos any ideas I formated the sd card to factory settings 🙈
Do I bin this camera now I've tried everything to get it to take video and pictures no joy at all only had it 2 weeks ffs 🙈
Perhaps there is nothing feeding in front of the camera can you see the food on the camera ? Is it close enough for the camera to pic up movement?
the camera keeps going back to default time how do i make keep time
save the text file
@@quedgeleywildlifephotograp7827 i tried that:) but it "forgets" the settings. (i normally take the card out and plug into my laptop) I found that if I connect it via the usb port it works😀
mine is not recording anything and instead of two light flashes im getting five on startup any ideas
Not sure Gary have you checked card is installed correctly? They are only cheap cameras so you get what you pay for I guess cheap is not always good. Not the best but have been lucky with the two I bought. They have worked Ok and have lasted longer than a couple of my more expensive trail cams.
I have bought one of these cameras and mine just flashes red five times when I turn it on. Has any one found the reason for this?
these files never came with my pr300 do you know were I can get them?
As far as I'm aware after buying only two of these cheapo Trail cams the PR100 Trail Camera the files are created as via the camera itself when you put in you SD card in to the camera. If it does not make sure you put the SD card in correctly. If it still does not work I would send the camera back to where you bought it from as must be faulty. I had a slightly more expensive trail cam by Victure an HC100 and the OK or enter button has packed up after a year of use making the camera useless now ! Unfortunately its just out of warranty so can't send it back.
Would have be useful to know how to view them
On a computer
Gracias men!
I am having an issue with getting the SD card to work in my pc/tablet. I am only getting two dim red lights. No white light. I have a 32 gb. Sd card. But i am not able to get it to come up on my PC/Tablet also, how you set it up to record?
"I am having an issue with getting the SD card to work in my pc/tablet."
are you using a card reader or the cable to connect the PR100 to the laptop?
" I am only getting two dim red lights. No white light. "
On where the camera or laptop??
"I have a 32 gb. Sd card. But i am not able to get it to come up on my PC/Tablet also,"
Maybe you have a faulty card or do not have the card installed properly to read it.
"how you set it up to record?"
If you have installed the SD card the right way round in the PR100 you just switch it on and it will record 3 photos & a 30 sec video as it's default is set to do that. watch the video on changing settings.
Hope this helps questions were a bit vage.

are the batteries required for every function on the camera.??
Yes
Not for viewing photos if you connect the camera to a computer using the USB cable it works even if you don’t have the batteries in.
what if i dont want to take vidios what number do i enter in3rd digit
think its 1 should be in the little book you get with the camera. Was not that hard to read once I found my reading glasses as seems very small the writing in the booklet.

This Cam is very very very low Quality... Not nice
The Batteries 18650 are more expensive as the camera.
My advice to anyone researching this cam is to buy something more expensive, reliable and trusted.
Seems like the reviews are 50/50, some hate it, some say it's okay for $35.
Why spend the $ & have to buy another one a few days after you realize this 1 is crap.
