Interesting to see his steel dart preference go from 16g all the way to 22g. It looks like Dynasty even released a version 2 right before Leonard switched, and it’s listed at 22g (both versions still available over in Japan on the sdarts website). I know only a collector would care about the box, but I have to say Winmau did a really nice job here. Thanks for the review!
Just got mine. Love the grip and the length. I hurt my right arm, so I started throwing lefty. Put Cuesoul Rost T19 Integrated Dart Shaft and Flights Ice 23mm on them. New throw new darts. I also got them from Double Top.
Worldwide; Another great review. I just put a set of these on order yesterday in 24 grams, along with 3 sets of the new fusion integrated flights/shafts. Depending on how I like throwing these, I'll either install a specialty point or the trident 180 nose cones. Sometimes I like/need a little more grippy dart, I think these will provide that. @@WorldwideDarts Worldwide; I received the Leonard Gates dart this past Saturday. I initially set them up with a set of the short Fusion flights/shafts. They are pretty grippy like you mentioned, but I got used to them after about a half-hour of throwing. They do need to be thrown with a light touch. Overall, I think I'm going to like them. BTW, I have a set of the short K-Flex flight/shafts I've been throwing for a couple weeks on my Michael Smith darts. I changed out the points on those darts to help eliminate the lip, but have still managed to nick up one of the flights. We'll see how long they last.
Man, Leonard Gates is incredibly good at soft tip, real fun to watch. I have really only seen him play steel tip during the World Cup of Darts in the doubles format, and he was very good there, too. It’s just nice to see such a talented player from the USA. I like these darts a lot; the grip actually goes from the nose all the way back; they might be too grippy fir me @ 4.4…Thanks for the awesome review, as always, WW🎯
I notice that you were shooting on a Nodor Supramatch 5 board at the beginning of the review. Would appreciate a review of the last few boards that you have been playing on. I’m getting ready to get a new board & was thinking about getting the Nodor Supramatch 5 board. Love all your reviews that you do. I agree that the darts are long.
Great review. Any links on that sweet winmau USA branded shirt? Also one thing to note on double top orders - there’s a possibility you could be hit with duties and taxes. On my larger orders that ship via DHL I’ve always been hit with taxes….smaller orders that ship via royal mail it’s hit and miss. I just paid $40 cad in duties/taxes/admin fees on a $100 cad order (I’m in Canada so could be different in the US…not sure how lenient the CBP customs agents are). Still winds up way cheaper than ordering locally though so I’m 100% with you on double top being the best choice.
Thanks. That's the Winmau Alpine pullover that used to be on sale at the Red Dragon website. I just added the stick on flag patch for the video. Yes, Canada is a different story with the possibility of import fees. It's totally random in Canada. I've never known anyone to ever pay import fees here in the USA. I've had a couple orders in the past that were slightly north of $500 and never had to pay fees. I've been buying from the UK since 2002 and never once paid anything extra. Typically though I just place a lot of smaller orders.
could add another 5 - 10 points to the average if you were to lick your fingers constantly, practice phantom throws, and stand at the oche for 30+ seconds trying to figure out what you have remaining... ;)
To be fair, I think he's been coached as he's improved quite a bit over the past year and (mostly) got rid of the bad habits. Years ago it was really bad though.
Thanks for another great video. Yes gates darts are very grippy. I think it the way he throws them. Been to tournaments and watched him throwing his darts. His last set grip toward the front more of dart. And this set he holds middle to front. But definitely a strange that Winmau did not put their logo on the dart. Or Gates soldier emblem on the dart. I wonder if some other 3rd or even 4 party made it. But i like the winmau integrated flights. I wonder how much they would coast and if the come in Med small.( #6 flight) WELL wwd if you don't want them because of the grip and length, You can allways send the my way. Good review and rating. I have a few sets of grippy darts. Sometimes it feels like they touch my finger tip on release and they go off target. I think they are ok to practice with to promote not over gripping, otherwise I’ll stay away from darts that hold on too much.
Some people prefer a grippy dart but for me it's a lot of work to throw them consistently. I did okay here for a few turns but in a real match I'd be all over the place.

Great review. I use AtoZ a lot, and don't mind the comparisons in pricing. These are #2 on my "to get" list from all of the recent releases. I wish these were a bit more distinct from his Dynasty set, but I mean I understand why they're very similar of course. I do like that the sections are wider though! I definitely need to pick these up... The new tapered Firestorm set was my other one I'm looking at, probably going to grab those in soft-tip.
Thanks. The comparison was more about showing WHY I use Double Tops. Keep in mind, it's starting to get into the busy time of the year for darts and a lot of new players will be showing up. Every so often I like to show exactly why I recommend a certain shop.

I was quite annoyed by that comment on here, as I'm sure you were. A good deal is a good deal no matter where it's from. Heck, the new Stowe Buntz darts are cheaper on AtoZ outright than DoubleTop. I would guess a little bit more then 5.5, because those darts are quiet thin, so if you found the right grip you could group them much closer. But I don't know if it would made them 6 of 10. Perhabs 5.7? What do you think?
It wasn’t easy but I had recently managed to get my hands on his Dynasty 20.5g darts. A heck of a set! Not sure these are anywhere as nice hut they still look good. Too grippy though!
I have these darts. I like them. But......if anything, I need darts that are as grippy and longer! I'm struggling to be honest. Need a grip all the way up to the stem as I'm a rear gripper.
Those look stunning, having no logo on for me helps as i think the Winmau badge would look out of place with that stunning milling but that's my two penny's 😂

I’m glad Leonard Gates was signed by a BIg name dart manufacturer. Great to see anytime an American Player gets a sponsor like that. This particular would not work well for me personally because of the grip. Glad it works well for Leonard! I always love a Sunday Bonus video!
I think a 5.5 is a good rating for new darters who are working on their release and just getting a feel for design/weight/stem length etc. But, I think that an intermediate darter that likes a little more grip could be a 7-ish on the recommendation chart. Great video on the 'facts' of the darts instead of just opinion. Keep up the great reviews.
Thanks Jeffrey. Sometimes it's difficult to keep the opinions out of a review if I personally like the dart a lot. Like with the 16g Darts Clearance darts. I still find it shocking that there was perfect match weight x2 on a set of incredible darts that only cost $20 + shipping. Most of the time DC brings the heat 😁

Not sure which would be worse for me, the grip or the length. Darts over 50mm are difficult to control and too grippy makes them snatchy.

I have the last set he had. They are grippy. The length was a bit of a problem with them. I don’t think I will spend another $60+ on another set.
My favorite set of his was the Monster darts. Impossible to find them nowadays.

The width is fine but it's hard to get around that near 55mm length.
I can imagine, I guess the difficulty are the same grip, so I could imagine it difficult to finde a reference point.
