Hey guys :) Miss you guys! I was able to get out there and fish and film! hope you guys like the video! How to catch halibut using the Rodney Special :) Stay tuned for the next video next week! Ill be rolling out 1 video per week for 5 weeks :)
bro stoked on the vid, in the last three weekends leading up to memorial day weekend vie fished every saturday and i have 15 halibuts in three weeks at spanish landing straits in my hobie. out of the fifteen only could keep 4. they were mostly on live bait and 2 on jerk chicken gulp
Rodney, I love how you're very specific on what gear you use and how you use it. That sets you apart AND above from the other fishing channels. I go jogging often at Liberty Station, but I think I'll have to head out with my tackle next time and try my luck. I rarely see people fish during low tide, and then you easily show that it's possible during those conditions.
thanks for sharing bro I definitely didn't know that you could drop shot with a torpedo and slow retrieve I fished the same area as well thank you for the tips
Welcome back Rodney! As usual, I still haven’t caught my 1st halibut, however, I haven’t been fishing lately so that too goes against my odds. As I said last time on your last halibut video that I will let you know using your techniques! Thanks again Rodney, you rock!!
always love your comments. I see on you post, that it indicates I give you the highest amount of hearts from anyone on this channel! I need to send you a thank you subscriber package or something :D
Yes sir!!!! Thank you rodney for taking the time to make another killer video amidst the chaos of life. Buy this man some coffee!!!! I’m already in, who else?? Much love brotha 🙏🤙
Awesome vid man I'm coming to San Diego in March for a vacation and I really appreciate the video, also was your 1k like keep up the good work brother!
That’s awesome Rodney! You got me pumped to get out to the surf! Hopefully I’ll find some halibuts down in my area. We always enjoy your videos Brotha. 🎣
Hey Rodney I have been following you for a few months and have learned quite a bit. Am looking forward to using your technique to catch my first halibut, Thanks Brother 🙏
I’m on the hunt for my first hali! I’m in Esco for like 2 more weeks. Gonna hit somewhere around Carlsbad tomorrow. This taught me alot! Subd for sure! Thanks bro
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel no specific requests! Your videos got me on my first fish ever. Caught in SD bay. I’m just glad I can give back just a fraction of what you gave me! 🤙🏼
Ayeee Rodney!! Welcome back! Hope all is well. Thanks for the video. I got into fishing from watching your videos over a year ago. I’ve only caught two 19” Hali since. But still on the hunt for the keeper. Started off shore pounding and now on a Hobie. Hope to see more vidz this year.😎🤙🏽
I hope this works. I’m going fishing this weekend in Mission Bay for spotties, corvina and halibut. This will be my first time surf fishing and I will be fishing in Fiesta Island.
Hey Rodney , what are some good spots in SD to catch halibut? I usually fish by the uss midway but I only catch bass, croakers, and sting ray over there
Nice fish!! I was trying to see where on MBay you were. It looked like you might be across from Dana Point or the Bahia. It was hard to make it out from here in Kansas. lol. I think we're coming out this summer. Keep it coming and I'll send you some coffee this week. - Scott
Really cool what you showed with the drop shot! Just curious, wouldn't the weight get caught up in the rocks dragging it along the bottom like that? That's what I'm running into fishing out here.
Are these the bridges off the 8 getting to the beaches? If so how do you access that area? If you don’t mind I’d highly appreciate the help. Brand new to fishing
Great video. You are always informative and have inspired me to start fishing. Thank you man. Where was this in SD? I've been driving all over town trying to find what kind of water I like to fish best. Again, thank you for everything you do, keep it up!
Hey brotha glad to see you still out, great effin catch mah dude keep it up, Haven’t caught much up here In Redding but ima keep tryin 😢 keep it up brotha great work love your videos 🤙🏽
Hey Rod. Great video but I had a quick question for you. I've been fishing from the shore with the same drop shot method, along with hook up baits, and a lucky craft, and i haven't had any luck all week. Ive gone to Spanish landing, liberty station, dana landing, I've been to all of the shores near there and still no luck. Any suggestions?
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel I tried harbor island for the third time this morning and still no luck. Im using the same white grubs you had on in a couple of your videos, maybe I should switch it up
I still haven’t caught my first halibut (even though I’ve hooked up on some) so I’ve been watching your videos trying to catch my first hali in san diego or mission bay :)
Hey Rodney, great videos, I started watching them a couple of years ago when I got back into trout fishing, now I am watching your Halibut videos and loving them. Got a question, what would be a good shore halibut rod and real setup for someone on a very tight budget? I would be fishing the Oceanside/Carlsbad area. I fished 5'5" Walmart combo setup for trout, was going to try that but not sure if it would work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated brother.
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel thanks for replying. But I what I meant was can you use a jig head hook for the actual hook that has the lure on it? and then 6-10 inches below it is a drop shot weight
Hey Rodney I just fished this spot, every cast I was getting snagged I could not avoid it, also i think the water level rose , do you recommend anything ?
Great videos and you should really make more and I been trying to catch some halibut but it’s seems like I got no luck is there any specific location in San Diego or how far from shore because I haven seen many videos but mostly they are on a kayak and they say 200 ft off shore any recommendations?
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel I was at Quivira Point this morning, only got one little Calico but beats the skunk...I am a newbie so love your videos...hope to run into you someday fishing...
Any advice on how to target Halibut specifically? Drop shot works amazing but I always seem to just catch Spotties and Sand Bass (not complaining tho). Most success I’ve had with halibut from shore was a 17’ inch “shaker”
Rodney, I fished across from where you fish, could I legally park at that parking lot behind you without getting my car towed, does the hotel own that parking area?

I've got 10lb braid and using 4lb floro is that a good combo for trout and panfish?
Or should I use 6to8, is the sensitivity better ?
Rodney, I love how you're very specific on what gear you use and how you use it. That sets you apart AND above from the other fishing channels. Nice catch Rodney! Any preference for the curly tail grub over a fluke or paddle tail?
Such a good question , I preferably like flukes in deeper water like 40 ft . And grubs and paddle tail on 20 ft and shallow

What size rod and reel
hi rodney i tried this at spanish landing today and I kept getting eel grass. Are there places with less eel grass
