I just wish SF9 wasn't so underrated. They should be so much more successful than they are. Thanks for your reaction. I love their new album, especially Memories.
I'm not a Fantasy, more so a casual listener, but I totally agree. I believe my first song by SF9 I listened to was O Sole Mio. I absolutely loved, and still love, that song. Ever since then I would always make sure to check out their new music. I love all the songs from Rumination, but if I was forced to pick favorites. I would have to say Dreams and Gentleman.
sadly south korea is filled with kpop groups and it’s hard to compete i do agree with you because they need to appreciate more those with real singing and dancing talent
I totally agree with what you said about Kingdom, I think the creativity needed and used for the stages was an idea that they realized they could utilize outside the competition as well, and it was so cool to see that this comeback. I’m pretty sure the “male version of Venus” was a reference to a rap section by Zuho in their kingdom move performance? But it might have been another one. Thank you so much for this reaction!! The slope part of your analysis with their voices was so interesting as well
to those who haven't heard other songs of SF9, Trauma is one of the few songs that talks about a f*cked up relationship. Bsides such as Fall in Love, Am I The Only One, Like Hands Held Tight and *especially* Liar is like this. Liar is probably the closest one to Trauma. It's a song begging the partner to stay in this toxic relationship for one more day and living in this lie because they can't let go of this love. It is excruciatingly painful and the layering in that song AND the members' vocals were top notch like Trauma here. Fall In Love is the more lighter version. It's the aftermath of a breakup of heartbrokeness however they fall back in love with that person after visiting the places they used share memories with. I seriously recommend for people to also hear their bsides. If you don't like the sad songs, they have songs of other genres that will definitely suit your taste. Also thank you to PD for making this video and sharing your review!!!
Exactly. Moreover, I reckon Love Again is also connected since it is a song where the partner doesn't care about the damage that the other does, he/she only wants to love again.
9:45 The opening Scene Gives us a 9 Member walking in that LED Way but In the Last scene they're only 7(Led By Jaeyoon). We all know as a Fantasy (SF9 fandom name) that Youngbin and Inseong's Military enlisting date is near, and I think it's a hint. Also, They made a song entitled "On and On" where the lyrics basically means they're leaving someone behind, But they don't want to be forgotten/They'll never forget the memories, and Also them saying It's just a phase, and they'll come back. I think it's connected to their Trauma MV but I don't know how it will enter.
until i watched your video i didn't really understand what's in trauma video but your explanation for all the components from the song itself, the lyrics, the purposes in video and hidden meaning behind it you unfolds it all sooo well and now i stanning sf9 more and more because of your explanation. these sf9 guys indeed don't follow the trends but they really make their own concept which is segmented and *sigh* expensive. they can't be compared to others since i never see kpop groups like them with strong charisma and androgynous aura. if you're their fan, you know what i mean lol omg i love this group soooo much thank you pd for this great reaction vid!!
It’s like after Kingdom, they found their niche-their identity as a group. And I honestly wouldn’t mind if they keep going with this concept. Those visuals and bodies have to be accentuated god damn
When we say talent this is what we are talking about “SF9” This group can do everything (sing, rap, dance, actors, models, songs writers) They surprise me with every comeback they are amazing I know K-pop since 2011 and I like it in many groups, but there is something different about sf9. There is no song that I didn't like. All of their songs are the best also They can do everything They are really talented.🔥👏🏻 I love this comeback l love this album everything perfect 🔥👏🏻 And I love dawon voice too his voice another level 😍🔥
I hope you are doing a listening party for this masterpiece of an album! especially "gentleman" and "dreams" are gonna blow your mind I already know it. Edit: I shouldve waited till the end of the video to comment xD
A couple of things: the numbers are symbolized by each member referring to the members that feature in either their teaser from past era or epilogue teasers, but basically a reference to all their past 9 title tracks per member (idk if I’m explaining correctly!) Second, I’ve seen this video so many times this week and I’ve yet to spot that spiderweb connection, thank you so much for your bilingual and visual breaking down of this song, it adds so much more depth now. Keeping doing you PD, your thoughts are so insightful.
I remember watching an interview with the songwriter Daniel Kim on working with SF9. He mentioned SF9 often likes to give him a certain keywords that they want to use in the song and he will work from there. He has worked on songs with them like Now or Never, Enough, Shine Together, Forever, Tear Drop, Believer, Off Mind, and this new album Trauma, Gentleman, Scenario. AND I LOVE HIS MUSIC!!!!! lol
When i first heard it i thought this song is about SF9's experience/relationship with Kingdom itself. A toxic place to be but they came out of it stronger and even making me as a fan thinks "it wasn't that bad. Those experience and frustration when seeing how they were treated in that place... now that i look back at it, they do gain something from it"
I feel like your reaction was exactly what SF9 and FNC wanted to provoke! We as fans spend our first watch adoring them. I mean, the other times as well but you was able to decipher so many important things that artistically maybe not the entirety of us were like WOW! 🤯 Your PD power! Also your 11/10 made me so fucking proud! Felt like a win, heheh! SF9 is overcoming themselves comeback after comeback and we're here for that evolution! I will like to know if you notice that their latest comebacks have some real EDM (but elegant) vibes? I feel like dancing to their song on clubs and that's what I mean!
I love how you enlighten us all about the little good details that we miss.. The song is now even better after you analyzed this way.. SF9 is a really good group and they have so many great songs.. In this particular album, the quality of all their song is really impressive.. I especially love Memory
This is now my favorite video/analyses from your chanel. I already LOVED the song before, but after listening to your opinions, and the whole concept and layers...man, fantastic.
They prepared Tear Drop (maybe Trauma, too) before Kingdom. And in Kingdom, all their stages feels like continuation if you take a look of the details. The props they used in Kingdom were elements of the MVs. I don't see other groups did that (pls cmiiw). And the fact that Good Guy, Summer Breeze, Tear Drop are parts of 9loryUs trilogy with Trauma as prequel, shows that they own this concept and storyline since last year.
YESSSS I was waiting for this! P.D this album is a masterpiece so I hope you can do a listening party on Patreon later on! TRUST me, you wont regret it T.T
This cb song is same good with tear drop in mature sexiness vibe and better or fair distribution. Although I hope RoWoon can get more lines because his vocal actually healing and so smooth part. Hope they might switch vocal on the verse, like I want different member singing that part, for different feeling.
This is such a comprehensive commentary and analysis of Trauma. Thank you for shedding light to how the Instrumentals, Lyrics, Song Delivery, MV story telling and symbolisms are all interrelated. It makes me even proud of SF9. If only more fans nowadays are able to analyze and appreciate songs like this, I'm pretty sure a lot would like them more. I think you're right when you said they've completely moved over to a more mature concept which also means that it takes more unravelling of what their trying to deliver. I can't wait what they show us next!
So it wasn't just me who was confused with "you become my trauma" but then "you ain't my trauma". but wow I never thought it was about gaslighting yourself to stay in a toxic relationship dayum
I’m not even a fan but I acknowledge SF9 is the sexiest kpop group today. Like they’re effortlessly sexy. And yeah Zuho is the male version of Venus! I should probably just join the fandom 😌
One thing I noticed about the MV was there were scattered french numbers in the full mv, I have no clue what that signifies though, like 4:25 hwiyoung has the six, 4:29 youngbin's screen has huit which is 8, 4:32 dawon is writing quatre which is 4, 4:33 there's on chani's left lens, 4:39, un is one, 4:42 the red letters form sept which is 7, 4:44, 4:51 cinq which is 5.
Every member represent a title track since their debut, and it’s in the same order the recollect videos came out before the cb. Inseong is the one that can put them together, and that’s why he had the bracelet in tear drop.
SF9 in general is so underrated!! TaeYang slaying us with his dance moves as the song starts. This is good mature stuff. Happy to see my darling Dawon have more then 1 line lol. I have to see their live stage for this one.
I listened to the album first before the MV and I instantly knew that Trauma was a banger so I had to check out the MV and I was NOT disappointed. Your interpretation of the lyrics made me appreciate the song even more and this why I always come to PD for the lyrics tea baby ☕
You never disappoint! Thank you so much for explaining in thorough how BRILLIANT the song production is, PD!! I've been trying to say the same things about the lyrics indicating self-gaslighting to my friends, but you just effortlessly nailed it 💯 Please also check out their choreo / live performances and you'd see how they're imaginably making love to those chairs (partners) towards the end! That's how messed up but fantastic Trauma is by SF9! 🙌
I looked up the word cinq which mean five and I found they had a song called Love No.5 which is a song about falling in love which is similar in Trauma as your dealing with loss of love. As well the bar scene in the music video ties into Summer Breeze as it was the main plotline and setting. The chandelier in the music video tie into Teardrop. At the timestamp 3:12 you see the word STOP glowing in red and one of the members looking at the mirror. I believe he is feeling to stop the pain of trauma and feeling vulnerable. If you notice the time on the clock its their debut date October 5th 10:05
Thank you for the good review for Trauma!!! At first I thought it was not as good as Tear Drop, but as I continue to listen to the album, I found myself singing the songs in my mind on repeat! I am really proud of them! They are so great! I am hope they will be more known in Kpop industry. They deserve so much more! 💙💙💙
The sexy isn't borderline, sir! It's crossed the border and driven 500 miles. I feel like it's inevitable that this change happens and stays for a while, as growing up and life experiences changes our creative product and perspective. I absolutely love that they've been allowed to grow up and have themes that reflect life, rather than being stuck in perpetual boyhood. Their current music feels very honest and vulnerable, which is very sexy.
Thank you so much for the analysis, you put the song in a different light for me. I love this comeback so much, everything is perfect: from the music video to the performance and the non-skippable tracks on the Rumination album (I think it’s currently their best-selling album). SF9 have a style of their own, I also think they are one of the winners of Kingdom, that show really helped them find their own identity.
PD, I've literally binged listened to this song and your review totally opened up my eyes further to the story. The conflict within the story they're telling, where they know the love is destroying them (from the set like you said, the chaos), but how they convince themselves they need this love because it's as if they attach stability and happiness in the toxicity. Much like real-life relationships, where people can trick themselves into believing the toxicity is normal because often the self-gaslighting is, that sometimes you forgive the harsh things because it feels like the other person (or the anxiety if we're looking it as mental illness being the trauma as well) has become so intrinsic to who you are, that you don't know who you'd be without them/it
Thank you so much for reacting to SF9’s Trauma and for all the nice words. I love your interpretation of the song. Some of the scenes makes sense to me now, I didn’t think of it that way. Everything you said was on point. I agree even if they didn’t win on Kingdom they really shined, grow, and found their color. I love you Form of Therapy! Thank you for supporting SF9. I already subscribed to you. Looking forward to more of your reaction videos. :)
Trauma is such a good song and the album is probably one of SF9’s best albums. My personal fav B-side is Memory, I’ve been listening to that song non stop since the mini album dropped.
you see, i was excited for your reaction because i just liked how the song sounds to my ears, and then you brought me a whole interpretation and now i LOVE IT. thank you for the video!!!!
I was waiting for this one! I'm having a very hard time deciding which SF9 comeback from this year I prefer, they really brought it across the board for both Turn Over and Rumination!
AAAAAAA i was waiting so much for this!!! i love this comeback so much, the mv and the song were both amazing and i really like the way they distributed the lines this time how Jaeyoon and Chani got more lines than usual and man that portion with the back and forth of Hwiyoung and Chani and the two dancing together gotta be one of my favorites, also maaan you opened my eyes to the lyrics PD cause i didnt think about it being about a toxic relationship with them basically gaslighting themselves but it makes soo much sense now wow
please listen to the whole album!!! rumination is definitely one of their best album and every single song is practically TEN OUT OF TEN like you should check out memory bcs thats a real masterpiece right there!!
Yeah, I noticed that Queendom/Kingdom tendency too. It's always a group which didn't win, but made it to number 1 after proving everyone underestimating them wrong. Oh My Girl, ONF, SF9. I wonder how it turns if they actually do Road To Kingdom.
This song is a like the main setting of the story that they have portrayed in their past songs - the actual dark and toxic relationship they have been teasing since Easy Love, Liar, Am I The Only One, Like Hands Held Tight and then the aftermath which is Fall in Love. This really does feel like a closure, finally depicting the main storyline was of love built in greed. Love Again is somewhere in between, a brief point of view of the current situation. Really such an excellent work on lyricism and musicality right here. Check out the entire album because the songs are as great as this one! Edit: sorry someone already explained it 😭 I didn't see it until this was posted 😭
The instrumental sounds like a mix between Wonho's Open Mind and a couple of Taemin tracks (the energy of Want, and specifically that heavy bassline from Guess Who during Chani and Hwiyoung's dance break). It gets better every time I listen to it. Ever since Summer Breeze I've been paying attention to Jaeyoon and Rowoon's vocals- love their tone and the emotion they bring. Also, I didn't think that Jaeyoon was my type but he really is a MAN. With a sprinkle of something that I can't name but it works ✨😌
What you said about the change in the mood during the chorus, and how the production added the depth and emphasis to the story was a great way of putting it. What I noticed from the song after your comments from 14:23, during the first half of the song, we only hear the synths come in during the chorus, and during TY’s and IS’s parts, it seems to be in the bg and they’re literally singing over the synths. Then notice how it seems to get a bit louder after the drop during RW’s part… It reminded me of sirens, as if they’re choosing to ignore all the warning signs (by literally singing over it) in order to gaslight themselves that the relationship is all good. Then we have the synths stopping after RW sings “I don’t like this drama” - a sign that even though he’s falling into the traps of the relationship, he was able to recognize how he doesn’t feel completely okay about it, and he’s recognized the warning signs all along. The next we hear of the synths is during the 3rd chorus when IS, DW, JY, and TY have been completely gaslit into “this is not a traumatic relationship”, and RW is silent because no matter his feelings, he can’t do anything about the relationship anymore as they all chose to ignore the trauma. I totally agree that this cb song really is one of, if not, their best tracks so far - from the storytelling of the lyrics and the production which emphasizes the story, it really was well-thought about, and I also think that going through Kingdom allowed SF9 to make such a song that is so distinctly them. Thank you for the review, PD! I’m looking forward to more of your videos!
pd i think this is the best reaction+review you've ever done😭 the boys have most definitely outdone themselves and your passionate interpretation was also so eye opening thank you sm😭
I've been a casual sf9 listener for a while and this comeback has me on my way to become a fan, especially after this breakdown, there's just not going back. Soty material for sure!
Thank you for reacting!!! I knew you would catch the lyrical meaning and appreciate how much they have refined their style/concept. I know we all wish it would get more attention but their promotions will be short for this comeback.
Your reactions never disappoint i really wanna thank you for the way you broke down the lyrics & how it fits to the beat of the song i couldn't notice or appreaciate it this much if you hadn't explained it Im also feeling so proud seeing you enjoy my fave group cb once again and i really can't wait to get a SF9 listening party from you pls consider doing it i know many are anticipating it trust me Rumination is such a good album
Really love your enthusiastic reactions and breakdown of the song's message and MV, so thank you PD!! (esp love reactions to jaeyoon's chesticles) I can always trust you for detailed interpretations of the MV, lyrics, and composition in a larger context. I also really like hearing discussions on general trends in the Korean music industry.
Been waiting for your review for this song. SF9 are such cool people they are the total package and humble. Thank you for the genuine review. SF9 don't miss with their MVs so happy for them , they deserve all the support and appreciation
i was so focussed on how much i enjoyed the beat and visuals that i never picked up on the lyricism. thank you for your insightful reaction PD! i always enjoy watching your breakdowns :)
as an english literature student, YOUR ANALYSIS OF THE LYRICS AND THE MUSIC VIDEO MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! and your reaction made me love the song so much more, thanks so much PD.
You have the same taste as me. I watched along these years all your SF9's react videos and this one is definetely my favorite comeback although Easy Love and Now or Never are in my heart forever as well. Thank you for using your channel to promote them as well ❤
I just wish SF9 wasn't so underrated. They should be so much more successful than they are. Thanks for your reaction. I love their new album, especially Memories.
I'm not a Fantasy, more so a casual listener, but I totally agree. I believe my first song by SF9 I listened to was O Sole Mio. I absolutely loved, and still love, that song. sadly south korea is filled with kpop groups and it’s hard to compete
i do agree with you because they need to appreciate more those with real singing and dancing talent
Omg memories!! I looveee that track
Same! Memories is amazing ❤
I didn’t realise how GENIUS the lyrics are! Thanks PD. This is why we wait for your reactions.
The fact that they are written by Zuho Youngbin Hwiyoung and ChaNi 😩🔥
I totally agree with what you said about Kingdom, I think the creativity needed and used for the stages was an idea that they realized they could utilize outside the competition as well, and it was so cool to see that this comeback. I’m pretty sure the “male version of Venus” was a reference to a rap section by Zuho in their kingdom move performance? But it might have been another one. Thank you so much for this reaction!! The slope part of your analysis with their voices was so interesting as well
I’m pretty sure Zuho used “I’m the male version of Venus” in their ‘Move’ stage on kingdom 😊
Male version of Venus was one of the iconic lines in Kingdoms Move Performance, so yes you were right
he also used it in teardrop :)
@@chuuri are you sure about that? I just checked the Tear Drop lyrics and he didn't say it in his verse

am i the only one is still my favourite ever song of theirs and it makes so much sense that trauma is hitting so hard for me too.
I guess 'Stop It Now' is also one of them tho. :)
FNC artists are so underrated even though they're all incredible😭
Right???

I don’t know why but all of sf9 tittle tracks make me feel some type of way ugh they’re so good
"Male verision of Venus" is a reference to Zuho's same lyrics from their cover of Move on Kingdom!
Yes, and I screamed a little when I heard it the first time.
until i watched your video i didn't really understand what's in trauma video but your explanation for all the components from the song itself, the lyrics, the purposes in video and hidden meaning behind it you unfolds it all sooo well and now i stanning sf9 more and more because of your explanation. these sf9 guys indeed don't follow the trends but they really make their own concept which is segmented and *sigh* expensive. they can't be compared to others since i never see kpop groups like them with strong charisma and androgynous aura. if you're their fan, you know what i mean lol omg i love this group soooo much thank you pd for this great reaction vid!!

Finally watching you react to SF9 again! STAN SF9 PEOPLE. They are multi-talented and yet under-appreciated.
When i first heard it i thought this song is about SF9's experience/relationship with Kingdom itself. A toxic place to be but they came out of it stronger and even making me as a fan thinks "it wasn't that bad. Those experience and frustration when seeing how they were treated in that place... now that i look back at it, they do gain something from it"
One of the best MV reviews ever. Your review opened my eyes to every single detail in the song and story.
"F*ucking fantastic'' there, he said it and I agree. As usual, he made me love the song and the MV even more, thanks PD!!
"I'm the male version of venus" line is a direct call back to when zuho said it performing "move" on kingdom 😉
I feel like your reaction was exactly what SF9 and FNC wanted to provoke! We as fans spend our first watch adoring them. I mean, the other times as well but you was able to decipher so many important things that artistically maybe not the entirety of us were like WOW! 🤯 Your PD power!

In my opinion this is one of the best Sf9 comebacks.
Sf9 is one of the very few K-pop groups which can pull a mature concept.

Same. Tear Drop was so good, but Trauma managed to be better. (Although Taeyang era styling may never be topped.)

Their current music feels very honest and vulnerable, which is very sexy.
The DETAILS that you went into with their voices & the lyrics like DAAAAAMN
Thank you so much for the analysis, you put the song in a different light for me.
I love this comeback so much, everything is perfect: from the music video to the performance and the non-skippable tracks on the Rumination album (I think it’s currently their best-selling album).
SF9 have a style of their own, I also think they are one of the winners of Kingdom, that show really helped them find their own identity.
I really love how you analyzed every detail of the lyrics, story and mv. It makes me appreciate this masterpiece even more, thanks!
I was 100% sure you weren't gonna like it and I WAS SO SAD? LITERALLY SO SAD??? BUT YOU LOVE IT. I'M CRYING.
I was waiting for this one! I'm having a very hard time deciding which SF9 comeback from this year I prefer, they really brought it across the board for both Turn Over and Rumination!
Sf9 getting more and more interresting I like sf9 songs but the last two releases omg wow they are amazing
thank you so much for this. now i could understand the song, the lyrics and the mv better! everyone pls give so much love for SF9 TRAUMA
Thanks PD I love your reactions and explanations. Trauma and the rest of the songs are all pretty awesome.
SF9 songs are masterpieces
Stan SF9 and stream Trauma ❤️
please listen to the whole album!!! rumination is definitely one of their best album and every single song is practically TEN OUT OF TEN like you should check out memory bcs thats a real masterpiece right there!!
i would ve never guessed the meaning behind this song or mv without your reaction you made me see things under a different light that was amazing.
You always. Always. Make me happy.
Thank you for the loyalty. And just the appreciation for SF9 and what they do. Thank you ❤️
Yeah, I noticed that Queendom/Kingdom tendency too.
Edit: sorry someone already explained it 😭 I didn't see it until this was posted 😭
this song is the definition of ''lowkey hitting hard ''
You sum up everything perfectly, the deepness of the story everything is soooo good. Thank you
The instrumental sounds like a mix between Wonho's Open Mind and a couple of Taemin tracks (the energy of Want, and specifically that heavy bassline from Guess Who during Chani and Hwiyoung's dance break).
What would make me happy is to have a Taemin SF9 collab for like a dark toxic love/ sexy concept
As always, enjoy the way you breakdown the song. I couldn't pinpoint what was it that made me so into this song but your analysis summed it up!
pd i think this is the best reaction+review you've ever done😭 the boys have most definitely outdone themselves and your passionate interpretation was also so eye opening thank you sm😭
I've been a casual sf9 listener for a while and this comeback has me on my way to become a fan, especially after this breakdown, there's just not going back. Soty material for sure!
Wow it means so much more! This is a great review of Trauma. I got goosebumps while you explained the song.
I love the way you analyse MV in deep detail as their concepts ,symbolics and production. Thank you for your reaction to SF9.
This song is SO GOODDD!!!
The live stage is even more impressive. The chair choreography is sexy and elegant. Jaeyoon slays it.
Really great review!!Thank u for your penetrating analyzation 😩💕Pls give SF9 big support. They truly deserve it.
Thank you for reacting!!! I knew you would catch the lyrical meaning and appreciate how much they have refined their style/concept. I know we all wish it would get more attention but their promotions will be short for this comeback.
