  • Back in 2017 is when I cycled from Kilpisjärvi up in the far north of Finland down towards Åland Islands in the far south. In this short film, I discuss the highlights of my trip, what to expect if you want to travel to Finland. The biggest highlight of Finland is that it's filled with vast amounts of nature, endless forest and even up north with cold arctic tundra.

    What do you think about having this short film in an audio version?

      Lovely format! Have been to FinLand once and can attest to your experiences ;) Well done my friend, as usual :)

    The Western coast line and adjacent areas in Finland are very flat, as they have only recently risen from the sea. As you travel towards the east, the land gradually grows hillier, and the number of lakes increases in tandem as well. This has all to do with how the ice age moulded the land as the ice masses receded.

    You are right, we just completed EV 13 through Finland (the eastern side). Now we are in Sweden and its nice but there are consistent gunshots at almost every wild camp. We yearn for the uninterrupted nature and not being able to communicate with people. Its nice not to see a McDonald's or other franchise for weeks. Left or right...it depends on what you want.

    Love how you said the roads are soooooo busy and yet simultaneously you're cycling on empty roads 😁

    Very interesting video. Much better than most of the fast paced montage-like biking videos out there.

    Great video but I also disagree with the thing Finnish not speaking so much English. Finland is very English friendly country in general and most people can keep up with fluent conversation. There are some differencies for sure between the regions. I'm very interested to see your Åland leg. I also did a tour there last summer for the second time :P

    As usual this was very nice to watch, Finland looks absolutely beautiful! You and a few others have been a big inspiration to start cycling longer distances. I've just booked my very first trip to England in May next year, which will be a week. Still have a lot to learn. Like, what to take and in what bag. Need to get some small course on how to repair my bike and stuff. But I think I'll be great.
    Greets from The Netherlands!

      Well I've got plenty of Setup Tour and How to videos to help you get started. Good luck on your trip maybe I'll make a video about what cycling in UK is like 🤔😉

    • @michelium106
      @michelium106 4 года назад

      I know, those videos helped me a lot! It would be great to see a video about cycling in the UK. Especially for someone from a right drive country. Have read some stuff on the National Cycle Network, planning on using that too

      @@michelium106 When possible avoid A Roads as much as possible usually quite busy with traffic. National Cycle network in the UK is a mixture of bike path, country roads and sometimes footpaths. In the Netherlands is so different.. UK is lacking in cycling infrastructure but plenty of people cycle in the uk.

    Love the film bro, I have a friend who lives in Karlskrona, Sweden and have often thought about basing a bike packing tour around visiting him, you’re making me think about it again bud👍😄

    Great trip you had!
    I want to ask you about what did you have among items for sleeping? Dod you have a tent and sleeping bag, or just a tent, or just a sleeping bag? I am sorry if you told it in video. My english is not good enough to understand it by hearing(

    4000 km /45 days = 88.8888 km per day. You did it ? 88 km per one day ? What daily distance did you do?

  • @VesaGuardian

    For the most part your observations are correct. I just don´t see that the ability of Finns to speak English would be any worse than that of Swedes, rather the other way around😏

    How did You find places for night (I mean houses, not camp spots), some app, or Facebook group?

    • @TheOneGoodRoad
      @TheOneGoodRoad  3 года назад +1

      Various websites like WarmShowers.org and Couchsurfing.com and if possible simply knocking on people doors. 😄👍

      Summer time, not many camp grounds best pitch in the forest with clearings.

    Can i start a cycling trip without prior experience of road cycling?
    What are the key factors I can start preaparing.
    What is the minimum I have to do before starting?
    Thank you:))

    Hi , how wide is your road handlebar? Geosmina bag will works fine in a 40cm handlebar? I suppose i can close more the ends of the bags even losing some space...
    Can you use your hands on top centre of the handlebar? And in drop position?
    And with mountain bike how it is the movement on the trails with rocks? Its stable?
    Thanks again

    • @TheOneGoodRoad
      @TheOneGoodRoad  4 года назад +1

      You might want to try a demo model on your bike u can still place your hands on the center. If u load these bag to full then u can't get your hands on the drops. Best grab wider handle bars. MTB is less nimble on the trails but more weight down hill is good. 👍

    Good Day. Just viewed your Finland video. I am planning a 10 days cycling trip to Scandinavia region. Which 10 day segment would you recommend the most. I like a combination of friendly people and beautiful nature

      Basically something along the EuroVelo 10 (Baltic route). Sweden Finland or Norway. Since I am 66 years old, steep climbs become challenging with loaded bicycle. I will be renting a bike and will stay mostly stay at Airbnbs

    • @TheOneGoodRoad
      @TheOneGoodRoad  2 года назад

      Norway has more mountains so it's steeper but the scenery is fantastic but very few roads and mostly main roads Sweden is very sparse in comparison. Good luck!
