I'll try and explain it the best I can.
The Earth has a magnetic field. Our bodies too have a magnetic field but it is very very weak and not really uniform I think.
When they keep their hands over the guy's head they are actually making his bodie's magnetic field uniform and towards his head, meaning his body now has an upward magnetic force, so when they try and lift him, it gives enough energy to actually defy gravity, though partially. This effect is temporary and only lasts for a very short time. I'm sorry if any of the things I said was wrong.

About 20 years, when I was doing some time in the county jail, this guy showed us this. We did it on like 3 people. Then, we tried on on this guy that was over 400 lbs. We got him up, but panicked and kicked this guy in the face.
His face swelled up & the officers thought he had been a fight. They ended up pulling him out of our dorm & we never seen him again.

We tried it with 3 kids total. The first guy only came up a bit, but we were still freaking out. The next 2 kids we tried it on went up so high (couple of inches). Everyone was freaking out so much that they dropped the 2 kids and they hit their back on the metal part of the chair.
My teacher decided that we should stop by then so no one would hit their head. Then he explained that it had something to do with magnetic energy forces or something.
