    I loved your description about your new approach to making forward progress. Just a small tilt forward, consistently, each day without causing too much heat. This is a metaphor that occurred to me after my own burnouts. As a former pilot, it occurred to me that forward process was necessary to stay airborne but I had to switch to finesse and attentiveness rather than the old way of “yanking and banking” my way through situations. Keep bringing these Dave.

    Tao Te Ching has a great analogy for the last point Dave was trying to make: "the candle that burns twice as bright, burns half as long".
    Controlled burn is the key.

    Thank you for this! I love the slow tilt forward concept. I'm 33, and just STARTING to internalize these sorts of ideas after watching many of your videos. I was scared to start going to the gym, and could never stick with it, but now as I'm older I am taking a more realistic idea about my progress. My ego is seemingly tip-toeing now, finding moments and opportunities, these little pockets with no resistance to move forward a little every day. I'm a year in now, and I'm getting close to the best shape of my life, with no burnout approaching. It might take me 2-3 years to get to where I wanted to get, but it feels way more sustainable.
    It's almost like I'm sneaking up on the universe, not making giant leaps but also never losing ground.

    There's quite a difference between the best sportsmen and the best rappers, in the sense that the best sportsmen are usually quite objectively the best, at least out of the people that play the sport (and in this rare case, fit the height) since tehre are objective goals and rules in basketball. However, this is not the case with rappers, as as there are endless amounts of people who might "objectively" rap better. The difference is mostly that those who who are marketed with big budgets are the famous ones, while they may be like average objectively when it comes to the activity of rapping. They may be famous becasue there because of wealth, connections, looks, personality or whatever other reason. They are not there because of exactly the same metric (a specific , defined skillset) but might be there because of completely different reasons. It's the same with celebrity singers are also not really objectively the best singers. A lot of nobodies in The Voice sing better than a lot of of ultra famous singers. Also, a lot of singers and rappers get famous because they have a catchy song. A lot of them do not compose or produce these songs themselves. So they also lift on other people for their fame.
    I agree though about objective talents and interests generally being more clustered around the same types. Se for example is indeed just simply the most optimal function for something like basketball.
    Eric Wen said he is so against that idea that Se would be good at sports. I can not take him as seriously now, since he said such a thing. However, maybe I'm just being critical like always ;)

    • @ChristopherWaddelow
      @ChristopherWaddelow Год назад

      I think you are off base, you don't just simply look cool and appear at the top of the rap indusry. That's not how Eminem, Jay Z, Drake, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dog, NF, or anyone else did it. They had to struggle and show their craft as consistently good for YEARS.
      In rap, becoming "The Best" is a popularity game, and objectively speaking, Eminem has world records and has insane amounts of success in terms of numbers of dollars, albums sold, and the sheer amount of rappers who call him the best. If you think there are no objective metrics there, you're nuts.

    • @PowerRedBullTypology
      @PowerRedBullTypology Год назад

      @@ChristopherWaddelow So appearing at the top is not what you mean with being a good rapper, yet sales of records are?
      I would say other people like producers also for a large part contribute to good sounding songs. So in that sense, a rap artist is more of a team effort. However, the team is not clear, like the case is with sportsmen. A rapper could in theory have a ghost writer and still become popular, whereas a footballer player can not have a ghost performer of any kind. He has to perform on a set time, with clear and set rules and is makes the comparison much more objective. The only real uncertainty is whether he may has used steroids maybe.
      If a rapper chooses has a record label that does not make sure the song gets airplay, then you won't hear about them, especially in the past.
      Also, rap has a technical aspect, a popularity aspect and many more aspects that are all different. With a sportsman, it's not complicated

    • @ChristopherWaddelow
      @ChristopherWaddelow Год назад

      @@PowerRedBullTypology Sales of records are the proof of concept. If you are popular, you get to the top, and to become popular, you have to put in the work, and in order for the work to be recognized, it has to be distinguished from every other amatuer rapper, in order for it be distinguished, it has to be good or different or interesting. I get that's a value claim, but I would argue you have to shoot through way more difficult hurdles to become a good rapper, because you are shooting at a moving, unspecified target.
      I guess if I had to boil down my differences here with what you have presented, you are saying, because basketball is objectively measurable for score and wins, we can certainly say the best are the best. What I am attempting to say is that because rappers are getting started in a unmeasurable, inconclusive, moving, value based market, they are winning at a game, but of a different stucture. It's still winning, even if you don't value that type of unmeasured success

    • @PowerRedBullTypology
      @PowerRedBullTypology Год назад +1

      @@ChristopherWaddelow I don't deny that it's hard to become a famous rapper, or the most selling rapper. But does that automatically make you the best rapper, simply because you sell the best? What is a person who sings very bad becomes very famous and much more famous than someone who sings well but is not famous. Then using that logic, the famous person that can not sing is the best singer?

    This "tracing personality elements on what people do / what makes them gather" is really cool.
    I would love to see someone do this about philosophers - i feel that they are tensionally tied at least, and i see at least two big groups (both observerz) the (S) empiricists and the (N) rationalists (that evolve into a spectrum of positions) - maybe going back even to Plato × Aristotle (which, of course, is hard to be sure).
    I feel like most of the (S)'s here are (Se)'s and the (N)'s, (Ni)'s. Nonetheless, i could be wrong and the (SxN) dynamic be not the top-bottom one but the midlle dynamic.
    Thats a thought that goes trough my mind every once and a while.

    Relating to social types, which first get mentioned in this vid if I remember right... I was wondering what you guys think of the ancient Nixon v Kennedy debate. Kennedy was very clearly a number 1 and very low key assertive in the exchange, despite being a "Nicer guy" 512 wise. Nixon was more of a "Nice guy" hierarchy wise while having a rather puckered and ugly 512. I think it might be a 1 vs 3 scenario.
