  • Remember that cheap "robot" vacuum cleaner I got in the last mailbag?
    Y'know, the one that didn't actually work when I opened it?
    Let's open it up, see if it's fixable, and find out if it sucks or not.

    This isn't the only way to do it.
    It's probably not the best way to do it.
    But it's how I did it.

    The battery that you popped the protective cover on is an SLA battery. Maybe you can mod this thing to be a little more useful intelligent floor sweeper???

    Stunned that it actually picked anything up! So you can't really give it an F, perhaps a D- grade?
    This was hilarious, thank you Mr O'Stuff.

      I was surprised that it got anything too. I suppose dog hair isn't that much of a challenge, though.

    That battery looks like a 4v lead-acid battery. You can see the battery have vents. That's incredible how they cut on costs using exactly zero silicon on it 😅

    I bought one of these to play with. Putting a power bank on top so that it is continuously 'on charge' really extends the run time. I can see it being useful as a cheap cat toy - although i dont have a cat to test this theory.

    yes it was worth every bit of 10 minutes.
    the trouble with robot sweepers like that and the better ones is you have to keep the floor space free of obstacles something that is not going to happen around here any time soon

    A few years ago I picked one similar to that one except it held six C size batteries. I picked it up because it was cheaper then buying the six cells separately and I needed the batteries for a flash light. it had about the same suck Shone power as yours, until I wired it uo with 24volt nicads. It really sucked then and I ran it until the motors started getting real hot. I let it cool down while I rewired the battery pack (20 rechargeable AAAs) by adding 10 more cells all on a long lead, this I hocked up in reverse polarity. It actually lifted off the ground for a couple of inches and hovered for about 15 seconds until the magic Smole came out of the motors.

    Looks like $10 for some 3-5v DC motors, a handful of plastic gears , a couple wheels and a battery. Perhaps not the best haul but not likely the worst

  • @DirtyPlumbus
    @DirtyPlumbus 17 дней назад +1

    Honestly, it's not bad for the price. You could easily spend the same amount on a crappy broom.
    I'm still unsure as to whether or not the far more expensive ones are worth the money.

    I am a little disappointed it isn't one with a spy camera that would be sending images back to the mothership in China. Then everyone there would be aware of your safety conscious, workshop footware.

      Or it does not even connect to your wifi network and send back 3.5tb of data per second to the mothership

    On the plus side, it seemed to like you.
    Yeah, it was everything one might expect at the price, the only surprise was the failure modes. I didn’t see the mis-installed switch coming nor the self-breaking wire. It’s not really even good for parts.

  • @elvinhaak
    @elvinhaak 17 дней назад +2

    Soo clearly.... just a simple lead-acid-battery (casing)... so no regulators needed... for the size a couple of minutes 'running-time'.
    Replace with at least 6 V battery-pack or get it on 8 Volts or above.

    • @stephendredge6077
      @stephendredge6077 17 дней назад +3

      Yes the battery is a small two cell lead acid, at least it won't burst into flames or explode, even if charging to 5 volt would be overcharging.

    Now aside from this "fragile piece of shit" being just that but able to somewhat vacuum, tell me the truth and let us know what you were thinking when it was on the floor. Did you want to just step on it, and crush it to pieces? Lol
