I might not be a Paleontologist (by now), but I do spend a lot of time researching about these animals and as rediciolous as it might sound, I can not find any flaws with it, so I would recommand to donate it to the natural history museum aswell. This model really looks like a living animal, so great job on that, as I don't get the opportunity to say that very often!
You don’t sound delusional or anything about contacting the natural history museum, that’s a good idea in my unprofessional opinion. And as far as I know it is very accurate
I'd imagine to look a Velociraptor pretty much like that. Nothing wrong with JP movie monsters for entertainment, but I equally enjoy attempts at scientifically acurate reconstructions and this one looks very convincing! Should be in a museum, because they sometimes have horrific Velociraptor sculptures
But Jurassic Park is scientifically accurate for one reason... *GENETIC MODIFICATION* ...yep... Dr.Wu changed the dinosaurs so much they didn’t even resemble much their original design, also the velociraptors were velociraptor entropis (shown by the deinonychus skull design), not velociraptor mongoliensis
@@silvertheelf The Velociraptor in JP was originally based on Deinonychus antirrhopus, which in one paper that Chrichton worked with was named Velociraptor antirrhopus, because of some simililarites both species had. The name was later abendoned, but Chrichton kept it for the novel, because "Raptor" just sounded better. The modifications of Wu give an inuniverse explanation for the look of the dinosaurs and that's all fine, but calling the genetics of the JP franchise scientifically acurate would be the same as calling the events of Lord of the Rings a historical correct representation of the middle ages. It's both fantasy, but that does'nt make them less enjoyable. Poeple should just stop thinking JP has real dinosaurs, because some get so attached to them, they reject the work of real scientists because real dinosaurs don't resemble their childhood "hero" lizards
@@silvertheelf I think for the movie it was definitely the right choice and JP raptors are some of my favorite movie "monsters" and scared the sht out of me as kid! Still wonder what a real raptor that size, like a Utahraptor, would have looked like. Maybe we'll see a big, scary feathered raptor in a jurassic movie, they could easily explain that with some advanced DNA cloning process technobabble
The way you restored that Velociraptor skull did remind me of forensic scientists bring skulls of long-dead people back to life by adding layer upon layer of modeling clay as if it was real tissue that covered the living face.
I think it would have been easier to lay the feathers starting from the bottom of the neck and working your way up to the face. I did something similar with a life-sized Citipati model I made for an Egg museum some years ago. And that too was a learning experience for me in finding out what worked, what could have been better, and techniques I'll probably not do on future projects.
Definitely lovely! However, it kind of hurt a little when you started applying the fur/feathers from the front to back. To get the correct layering, you should have started at the bottom of the neck and worked your way back up toward the face. I think donating it to the NHM would be a wonderful idea, and I'm sure they would be pleased to have it!

I see how the fur and feathers were difficult. In high school I made a dragon sculpture and made feathers that went down its back. What really helped me with them is that I did the bottom layers first. I think that could have really helped with this piece. Especially if you let each layer dry before adding the next, allowing movement between the layers (like if the wind blows the feathers and fur move). Its a bit difficult to do, since you are having to remeber the apply the feathers and fur in the direction they grow backwards, but you get used to it after awhile. I really enjoyed watching you sculpt! I wish we could have seem your fur and feather application in full! Its really amazing!
You have some really reasonable prices for your stuff, I appreciate that, even if they are a bit under-priced in a way. I would buy this bust in a heartbeat if you sold it!
I remember been watching a dinosaurs magazine that my dad bought and i got a page entire dedicated to the Allosaurus and it's eyes, Bird-like eyes huaunted me for Life. It made the difference.
Looks really good! One idea with the feathers (fur): Try to start from backwards, and then they will owerlap naturally, and you don't have to afraid from accidentally getting glue on the surface of the already attached "feathers".

Hey dude you're a really, really talented artist, and I'll bet a lot of people look up to you, myself included. And personally the scales give the dinosaur life, And showing that would be super cool. Just a non slow-mo video of how to make the scales for dummies like me who can't sculpt a hotdog. Thank you very much for this wonderful creation!
Why would you start from the top layer when glueing feathers or fur? ;D Its like stacking paper by always sliding new sheets under the bundle instead of just putting them ontop of oneanother...
this is super cool to watch n it's what I've always wanted to do with the Deinonychus skull I have sitting on my shelf above my computer, and I've lost motivation for that but watching this brought my motivation back so thanks Marco, you do an amazing job with your sculpts
While I was watching this video i was feeling like I was talking with you. Marco i had fun while watching it. The best part was with feathers😂but lovely project😍🦖🦕
When applying fur, feathers, or hair to a model, start from the lowest point (the neck) and work your way up like you’re shingling a rooftop. The direction in which you lay the hair on your model can help add to the realism. So the fur on the cheeks may swoop to the sides, whereas the fur towards the neck may point straight down. I’m not an expert in dinosaurs, nor am I an expert in model making, just some pointers I’ve learned from special effects artists and my own experiments. I love watching things like this and I’d love to see an update if that’s something you’re looking to do!
Hey, thank you! I do work in movies! You probably have seen some where I made or helped making something. I’m on a break now working on my own stuff. Thank you for your kind words and support!
DEFINITELY donate this to a museum if you haven't already. They're starved for accurate dromaeosaurs. Even when they try their best they never get it quite right.
It's gorgeous, I understand why people would find it less threatening than Ingen's raptors, for obvious reasons, but realistically, Velociraptor would definitely rack up fatalities
the video is really educational and very interesting ... i made a lego like custom of VELOCIRAPTOR accurate almost in size for my channel... im a fan of dinosaur and extinct creatures... I just hope i could also make a info video like this for my VELOCIRAPTOR soon ... love it...
I noticed multiple velociraptor models with that sparrow-like coloration lately(Safari Ltd. and Beasts of the Mesozoic), is it something recently discovered?
Where did you find the skull replica?! I looked all over the internet for a decent/realistic skull, but they were either completely inaccurate or cost a lot to cover in clay! I made up a cardboard and tin foil skull on Tuesday (I’m honestly a little nervous to add clay as it came out better than expected lol!), which is good for 1st large sculpture in years. But it obviously doesn’t have the lumps and bumps to build up muscles/tendons in exactly the right spots. Would be nice if someone travelled the worlds museums, getting 3D scans of all the fossils and either make the scans available for people to print themselves, or make and sell replicas themselves!
This thing looks amazing and I have always wanted to make a taxidermy of a dinosaur. What tools did you use to sculpt it? I saw something that looked like a brush and I am wondering if that was a brush or something else.
And I did like how you put feathers on it. And you said it could be rather messy and a lot of cleaning up. I had a lot of difficulty cleaning up when I started painting with oil paint.
@Marco Makes -try synthetic feather material and brighter red. The feathers on your excellent sculpt look dead, better to sculpt the feathers or try a lively fake feather material, which ironically looks more alive. I've seen it around but I never inquired. Good work (from an artist).
