Exactly. Some people (I would even say lots of people) nowadays forget being in a relationship means two people, with different worlds, coming together. And no one "owns" the other. So no one has to "ask permission" like they are some toddlers talking to their parents. Of course they should talk to their partners where they are going and even ask if the partner wants to come along. But not like "can I go please, please, I've been a good boi, can I? I promise I'll clean the house for a week if you let me". Wth? lol
I think her point was more along the lines of the reasoning that she will say yes to him is more about her than him having a good time. It really doesnt matter though, as long as you are letting your partner have some freedom without being controlling all of the time then the reason doesnt matter so much to me tbh

My wife does loads and has never and would never say no to me playing golf or going to see my mates. A few friends in the group have the 'ask for permission' and it's embarrassing for them and they've changed and become less fun. I, in return, would never say no to her going to see her friends. If we had discussions about it, it wouldn't last

Sorry but if your partner is basically indirectly forbidding you to do things (by conditioning your behavior), either work it out or find someone else. Doesn't matter if the partner is "leng" or "the best I can find". After some years, you will become a ghost of yourself, because you will constantly adapt and the person with you just goes further and further on their demands.
Plus, it's a huge lack of respect towards you. He/she is basically indirectly accusing you that you will cheat if you go out with your mates. There's no trust. I find that very disrespectful. I understand being jealous, but I will never understand preventing someone from going out because you think he/she will cheat.
At a certain point you just walking on egg shells. You can't make a joke about certain things or he/she will get offended, you can't like a picture of a friend without having your partner questioning you like you are some child that doesn't have control over your emotions (like them lol). You can't just go out with someone without having your partner basically calling you names because he/she thinks you are cheating. Yes, you should talk to your partner saying where are you going, that's normal, that's showing respect to the person you are with. But it shouldn't be to "ask permission" to go out. The partner is your boyfriend/girlfriend, not your owner.
