Thank you so much for that! I am such a visual learner, I really needed to see someone do this for me. Your patience is astounding, btw! Thank you for modeling a calm and thorough demeanor; I know I would’ve approached this with haste and blown through it all leaving my poor kid confused. 🤣
We switched from rightstart because all the manipulatives caused more confusion than necessary. I saw this and thought Oh no... but she totally gets it, there's no stress at all. Perfect 👍
Just think of using counting blocks instead of a house. If you have 9 counting blocks you have 9 in the ones place holder. Once you add 1 more it goes from the ones to 1 tens place holder. So, if you have 9 tens (90) and you add 1( ten) you move up to 1 hundreds (100). So, if I have 120 I have a place holder of 1-hundred 2-tens and 0-ones. Not sure if that helps or makes it more confusing for those who seem a bit lost. 😀
Wow. I now understand. I have this curriculum-MB Math 1. I’ve had a hard time understanding by skipping through it. Thank you so much for this video. Much appreciated.
What is the purpose of this? Honestly. Would you be willing to explain the purpose? My son and I both feel like it's time consuming and pointless. Maybe our brains don't work this way. 🤔 We did Saxon math last year and didn't like it so switched to MB... I'm starting to regret it.
I wonder why you find it complicated? I find so many of my students do not grasp place value...even older students often do not have a solid grasp of place value. I have always had them do an activity similar to this. This has been done as a standard part of waldorf lessons for YEARS
Math U See manipulatives could work well here or something similar, where there are already blocks of things together so you don't have to do it yourself. I've also seen digital versions of this.
Thank you so much, I am homeless and all I wanted was to learn about value village. Now I that I learned about this I am ready to succed in life. I am no longer homeless. Thanks
Do you have a download to provide for Place Value Village Counting Mat, Angela, that replaces page 331 which only has columns for ones, tens, and hundreds? As well as the oval pieces that represent 100?
that can be found in the masterbooks MLFLE book 2 I believe! in book 1 they only go up to 100 so they didn't do the 1000 or have the 100 bean paper cutout

we are also trying this in addition to Right Start to hopefully clarify concepts.
This seems harder than it needs to be. I'm a little discouraged with this being the first assignment in master books. We will find another way
I was thinking the same thing

So glad I’m not the only one
I love master books, but this Place Value village is so confusing for my kids and will have to find another way to teach place value. 😮💨

What age is this
Barney Mathews Jr I would say around 6.
This is in the second grade and beginning of third grade as well for Math Lessons For A Living Education.
This is in the 1st grade math book for master books, starts on page 85

It’s for a visual
Some kids are visual learners
Too complicated, there must be a better way

I agree with you ...I found this so complicated, I just use small counting blocks and that's it.
Thank you so much, I am homeless and all I wanted was to learn about value village. Now I that I learned about this I am ready to succed in life. I am no longer homeless. Thanks
There’s another way to teach it. I appreciate this teach but fining another way that works for us. Thank you
What is the other way? Because this is so confusing to me, I know what ones tens and hundreds are but I don’t get this method
It seemed over complicated to me but, my daughter absolutely loves it!! So thank you master books 📕 👏🏻

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! I REALLY STRUGGLED TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO EXPLAIN THIS BEFORE. THIS IS SOOOOOOOOO HELPFUL I CAN'T EXPRESS IT MORE! THANK YOU!
What is the purpose of this method? What does it teach?
Wow we switched from saxon for easyier and this is way more work than saxon
the 1's house is tums house
the 10's house is big fees house
the 100's is big tums house
the 1000's house is big BIG fees house
Huh
My thought exactly!
Love this!
