A bit of history on the Sgian Dubh, sometimes referred to as the "Black Knife" due to the color of the handle, usually black, and often times how it was used. But, primarily it was the EDC knife of a Scot, and since the Kilt did not have any pockets, it was kept in the sock. Or if you where wearing a Great Kilt, a pocket was sewn into the sash part of the kilt for the knife. It was moved to the sock, to show, yes I am carrying a knife. So it was used for eating and lots of daily cutting needs.
