To be fair, Sakurai might have done that on purpose because Supernova applies additional effects. I guess he wanted to make everyone see those effects.

Gotta give some credit, Supernova being underwhelming in Smash is game accurate, the fact that it can kill at all means it's technically buffed compared to FF7
It could kill in the original Japanese release of FF7. And in Kingdom Hearts. And in Dissidia.
@@LittleAl016 leaving the original Japanese game and Dissidia aside (the former being because Square has a habit of making their "international" rereleases being the canon version, latter because it's set up to be a finisher and honestly only has the name in common with the original move), I wasn't even aware it was IN Kingdom Hearts, I thought he just used some variation of Meteor in both games
@@kurosakikun96 Well, for the KH version, it has a vastly different appearance, since it's a group of meteorites orbiting an energy orb in that one. And this is for KH1, specifically.

From a game design perspective, it actually makes sense for Super Nova to be a little weaker than a lot of FS's. First, it's range is a little bit better than a lot of other characters, and more importantly it's followed up with a random debuff if you survive. The latter potentially puts you into an unsalvageable situation even if you live, so balancing it out by reducing the initial damage dealt makes a lot of sense.
In every other way it's completely bogus of course, but still.
Also, in the original Final Fantasy 7 where he's from, the Supernova can never kill, as it deals damage equal to 90% of the character's HP.

I double checked, and it takes roughly 94% of HP instead of 90%
It also had a chance of giving each member a status effect, such as stun which is directly in Smash too

If I recall correctly, the final battle against Sephy took place in Cloud's mind; that probably explains why Supernova doesn't do as much damage as one would have thought, since the star and planets exploding never actually occurred.
Edit: Turns out that only the battle against coatless Sephy happened in Cloud's mind.

@@generaltechnomage306 Although, the Supernova attack is an illusion. Meant to put its target(s) into a state of despair and confusion. Though in the original Japanese release of FF7, as well as Kingdom Hearts, and Dissidia, his Supernova attack can kill.
To be fair, the Supernova after-effect can make the characters dizzy or sleepy so that'd be a free gigaflare punish, which would lead to a 0-death. But yeah, it depends on the RNG whether you get a 0-death or not.

@@mariajosepernia5085 I think he is also talking about smash. If the final smash leaves an effect, it can lead into someone landing the gigaflare as a punish, maybe into f smash too. Which is much stronger and better at KOs, etc
I am talking about smash and sephiroth's final smash has a chance to dizzy an opponet. And since Jigglypuff has the weird shieldbreak instant KO thing I think she just dies when she gets dizzy from it cause it is like a shieldbreak.

Imo Sonic's 100% should've been in inconsistent, bout to test it but if you wait for brawler to fall then go up along side him, you may be able to connect more hits
PS:just tested it: waiting for brawler to fall off works sometimes, and even without actively trying to get as many hits as possible, it sometimes works and sometimes not
so yeah imo it could be categorized as inconsistent
A quick note for your tests. Sonic’s FS is SUPER inconsistent, it usually can kill at 70-80% but it can also kill at 20% or less depending on the angle. It’s better to use around 20% and throw them off stage because it can true combo them for a early kill.
Sonic's final smash is definitely inconsistent, I've killed people when they were at 0 a few times while other times they don't die until after 50%. It honestly just depends on where the opponent is when you activate it and which way they are sent from the initial hit.
You play this game online with tourney style rules long enough you sometimes forget Final Smashes exist

I think Sephiroth’s final smash is a nod to his actual attack in final fantasy 7 not killing, but instead just ‘nearly kills’ you while also adding status affects.
Though I’ve heard that in the Japanese version, it actually can kill you, though I’ve never played that version.

Sephiroth’s final smash is strong for it’s chance to break shield and put an opponent to sleep which is a guaranteed KO for Sephiroth if it happens. Not to mention the reversing of controls makes it harder to dodge for a bit, and more often than not leads to a KO. The worst one has to be flower since it just adds damage but doesn’t make getting a KO significantly easier.

Villager and Isabelle: builds houses, succeeds
They only failed in technicality, there was virtually no chance of recovery for villager due to how far they got knocked off. Feels like an injustice to me.
But Samus's is horror, it's the size of the stage and it lasts forever.

The thing I like about Sephiroth's is that it is still good when the enemy is at low %, because if you get the shield break or sleep effect, you can deal upwards of 80% on your own after the ult finishes

These results actually make sense.
In the FFX11 supernova actually cannot kill (except in the Japanese version).
Instead it does exactly 15/16th of your current health to your entire party

What really makes Supernova one of the best final smashes is it’s easy hit easy learn hit box and the status effects because you can be hit at 0 percent but if you fall asleep or are dazed then the giga flare is an instant KO most of the time

It’ll be cool if Kirby had a different down-D, his down be could be like shulk where he cycles through different abilities but instead of like shulk it could be like different Kirby abilities from his games (like sword, and magic) until he takes a certain amount of damage or he does a taunt to get rig of it.
Kirby already uses those abilities in his kit though, like the fireball dash attack is just the fire ability. His up-B being from cutter. Even things like his rapid jab being from the fighter ability.

The power of that attack depends on how much the victim thinks it woukd hurt them.
