Tim Keller, on point as usual. I still remember that review ten years ago on Yelp of Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Nothing I've ever read or heard about Redeemer --- not even from many "Refugees from Redeemer" who have told me about their experiences, and how it took many years to recover from having gone there --- has ever been more accurate or cogent. It is a remarkable document. (Excerpts edited for brevity and clarity). 1/17/2011 I have been to Redeemer West Side and East side services. I still go from time to time. I used to take part in several of the volunteer opportunities at Redeemer. First, I will start with the founding pastor, Tim Keller. Tim Keller's sermons are some of the most thought provoking you will ever hear in your life anywhere! He is also an author. I would go so far as to say that he is one of the great thinkers of our time. He is also a visionary in many ways. My husband and I regularly purchase and listen to his sermons. So why only 3 stars? Because a church is more than just a pastor. Now there is no perfect church. But there are some serious things lacking here: First of all, there is no prayer meeting or focus on corporate prayer for the entire church. The very basic part of the Christian faith that Jesus himself said with his own lips is found in Matthew 21:13. "It is written," He said to them, "'My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers." Prayer is just talking to God, it doesn't require any special talent, skill or training. So the lack of prayer at this church is very alarming to me. And I haven't heard anyone speak of repentance at Redeemer --- ever. Again, I have listened to hundreds of sermons and been to at least a hundred services both on the West- and Eastside. The church ministries are called "ministries" but are run like any secular organization. Redeemer is run like a business, a well-oiled corporate machine, and not a church. The other 2 things which are cultural and not spiritual but are off-putting to me are: 1. Most of the members and regular visitors to Redeemer are transplants, not New Yorkers, so the church is a large city church but run like a small town church where there are very few native New Yorkers. It seems most of the members are not established in the city and are just passing through. 2. The other is that it seems the majority of the congregation are looking for a spouse, and very aggressively. When you walk in, the first thing people do is look at your hand for a ring, and then are bold enough to ask if it is a wedding ring. That experience is not unique to me, but to all of the guests I bring here. In addition, in any volunteer group I have been to, the small talk from both men and women centered around trying to find a spouse. Then the few married people were usually complaining about their marriages. The pastor knows about this and does see it as a problem, because he addresses it in his sermons. But people don't seem to listen. It is like they are all living in 1950's rural America. One other major problem I have with Redeemer is that it is mostly White and Asian. I believe the reason is that the congregation ---- and this is not the pastoral team's fault --- seems to be focused on their careers and making money, and not on God at all. God is there to bless their agendas; this is how they seem to operate. I believe this is true for a few reasons. One, the culture of the church and focus of the congregation seems to be on Whites and Asians who make good money and have high-end careers, rather than on God. A huge basic tenet of the Christian faith is death to self. But at Redeemer, when you hear testimonies approved by the pastoral staff, they usually start with the person's professional credentials. I do not see any death to self there, but actually the opposite: It's "Look at what I can do for God because of my high income and education." It is not wrong to have a high income or education as a Christian. But the focus (at Redeemer) is wrong. So for these reasons, I think the church is best for those who are not Christians yet, but are seekers of God, or for those established in the faith already. It is not good in my opinion for the average believer looking for a home church. But by all means, purchase Tim Keller's sermons, and do something that the congregation at Redeemer fails to do: Learn from his sermons. end

This interview has completely restored my faith in God and Christianity. I could not understand what was happening to my fellow Christian and why we were on opposite sides when we had always walked together. I have opened my mind and have new hope in understanding the doctrine I have always been so fixed on, had become my god. Life itself has taught me that it wasn't the way I believed it to be. I will never be able to walk on the same path as all those I have walked with, but I love God again, and a new adventure awaits me, with a new and fuller understanding. Thank you.
Wow, this was very good to hear. Especially Tim's advice at the end. Thank you for sharing this. I appreciated how you and Tim addressed people having doubt, not over the resurrection, but doubt over the possibility of conversion. I have been struggling with what to do if I believe all of what the Bible says, but in the context of a church that ignores whatever is not culturally acceptable to whatever enclave of culture it happens to inhabit. If Jesus raised from the dead, it really will be alright. Nobody knows exactly how it will be alright, but it will be made right. I also thought it was sweet to hear how, in this time of grief and mortality, Tim has started referring to his wife and himself as a single person more and more. They really love each other.

“Trusting institutions”, it’s funny that Dr. Moore mentioned this, especially in an interview with Tim Keller. I’ve learned over the past year or two just how flimsy many evangelical elites are. On cultural issues, theological issues, and institutional issues, many of these men proved that they fear bucking against the popular, secular thought. It was tragic to watch them get irate when the world got irate, and remain silent regarding issues that the world says are off limits. I learned a lot.

Church attendance is down because here in California because of COVID we still are not allowed to operate at 100% capacity. It’s like at 25% soooo I wouldn’t look at this year’s numbers of church attendance. Why don’t they look at online church attendance??? That would make more sense
First, I pray that Dr. Keller is touched by God's healing hand. I never wish ill on anyone. Second, these two men are not preaching and teaching the biblical Gospel. They both promote a social Gospel. Tim Keller being Presbyterian, and Russell Moore being Southern Baptist. Great breadth of knowledge here, but very little depth in biblical doctrine.
I deeply respect Dr. Keller, but when I hear him praise Calvin and Luther, which he must as a reformist Christian, I feel such regret for him. I wish someone could save him from what Chesterton called "the hell of the belief in predestination". This is not to disparage him at all as a Chritian, I have learned a lot from his sermons, but there are many false forms of Christianity and he is immersed in one of the most insidious ones. God certainly can use all these diverse paths, especially the ones that at least stick to the Creed, so I don't fear for his immortal soul, I just regret that God presented a full banquet and he settled for a few side dishes.
I wonder if there’s anyone who has tasted the full banquet. I suspect all of us settle for side dishes - perhaps different ones but side dishes nonetheless! Agree with what you said about the insidiousness of Calvinistic doctrine though.

Salaa is (Sila) and it is a mountain in the Bab al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, as its name is until now, and it is Sala in Hebrew After we learned that Salaa is a mountain located at the entrance to Medina (the city of the Messenger of God) to which the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, immigrated from Mecca and settled there and was the center of his state Then he says 1- Send the lamb of the ruler of the land from Sele to the wilderness to Mount Zion's daughter. Isaiah chapter 16 We benefit from several things 1. He described the ruler of Sala, the Prophet Muhammad, who described him as the ruler of the earth No one in the Bible is described as the ruler of the earth other than the ruler of Sala (the Prophet Muhammad). 2 .. He preaches the conquest of Jerusalem by the Muslims 3. If he had said (Send the ruler of the earth) The good news would have been invalidated, but he said (Send the lambs of the ruler of the earth) Because Jerusalem was not opened until after the death of the Prophet Muhammad, that is, at the time of Omar bin Al-Khattab in the year 637 AD

“Trusting institutions”, it’s funny that Dr. Moore mentioned this, especially in an interview with Tim Keller. I’ve learned over the past year or two just how flimsy many evangelical elites are. On cultural issues, theological issues, and institutional issues, many of these men proved that they fear bucking against the popular, secular thought. It was tragic to watch them get irate when the world got irate, and remain silent regarding issues that the world says are off limits. I learned a lot.

Church attendance is down because here in California because of COVID we still are not allowed to operate at 100% capacity. It’s like at 25% soooo I wouldn’t look at this year’s numbers of church attendance. Why don’t they look at online church attendance??? That would make more sense
First, I pray that Dr. Keller is touched by God's healing hand. I never wish ill on anyone. Second, these two men are not preaching and teaching the biblical Gospel. They both promote a social Gospel. Tim Keller being Presbyterian, and Russell Moore being Southern Baptist. Great breadth of knowledge here, but very little depth in biblical doctrine.

I deeply respect Dr. Keller, but when I hear him praise Calvin and Luther, which he must as a reformist Christian, I feel such regret for him. I wish someone could save him from what Chesterton called "the hell of the belief in predestination". This is not to disparage him at all as a Chritian, I have learned a lot from his sermons, but there are many false forms of Christianity and he is immersed in one of the most insidious ones. God certainly can use all these diverse paths, especially the ones that at least stick to the Creed, so I don't fear for his immortal soul, I just regret that God presented a full banquet and he settled for a few side dishes.
I wonder if there’s anyone who has tasted the full banquet. I suspect all of us settle for side dishes - perhaps different ones but side dishes nonetheless! Agree with what you said about the insidiousness of Calvinistic doctrine though.

What is the relationship of Kedar to the good news ???
Kedar is a descendant of Ishmael and was the most famous man of Ishmael’s descendants, so he was mentioned in the Bible many times
When the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, came he annihilated the glory of Kedar and mentioned him because the Prophet Muhammed was higher than the glory of Kedar.
He also says
support, my choice with whom I pleased myself. I put my spirit on him, so he brings out the truth to the nations. 2 He does not shout, does not raise, and does not hear his voice on the street. 3 A bruised reed He does not break, but a dead filament He shall not quench. To safety brings out the truth. 4 He shall not eat or be broken, until the truth is placed on the earth, and the countries await his law.
Isaiah Chapter 42
Who is this servant who is supported by the Lord ??
Certainly, this prophet is not from the children of Israel. He says in verse 1 (And the truth will go out to the nations))
All prophets used to come to their people only
Moses came to the Children of Israel only, and they called only the Children of Israel to worship God
Likewise, Jesus was only sent to the House of Israel in particular
And the story in the Gospel: When did the Canaanite woman come to him and her daughter was crazy, what did the Lord Jesus say to her ??
24 Then he answered and said, “I was only sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” When is chapter 15
Are you from the lost sheep of Israel ??
Surely you are not one of the lost sheep of Israel
If you read the biographies of all the prophets, you will find that they only invited their people to worship God
As for the character of this prophet, his call is general to all nations
And all the qualities he mentioned in the verses. 1.2.3.4 applies to the Prophet Muhammad
As for the adjective in the fourth verse, it is an adjective that no one can deny
When all his relatives stood against him, beat him and mocked him, he did not tire or break, rather he was getting stronger.
Then he says: (And the countries are waiting for his law)
That is, he will bring a new law other than the law of Moses
The Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, came with a new law other than the law of Moses
Then Isaiah continues
11 Let the wilderness and its cities raise its voice, the house in which Qidar dwelt. Let the inhabitants of Sala sing. From the tops of the mountains to cheer. 12 to give glory to the Lord, and to announce his praise in the countries
Then he talks about the homes that Kedar inhabited
It is known that Kedar lived among the Arabs in the Arabian Peninsula
But we focus on his saying (Let the inhabitants of Sele sing to sing from the tops of the mountains to shout. 12 Let the Lord give glory and testify of his praise)
The strange thing is that the text did not confine itself to referring to Kedar bin Ismail, who is the grandfather of the Prophet Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace. Salaa is (Sila) and it is a mountain in the Bab al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, as its name is until now, and it is Sala in Hebrew
After we learned that Salaa is a mountain located at the entrance to Medina (the city of the Messenger of God) to which the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, immigrated from Mecca and settled there and was the center of his state
Then he says
1- Send the lamb of the ruler of the land from Sele to the wilderness to Mount Zion's daughter.
Isaiah chapter 16
We benefit from several things
1. He described the ruler of Sala, the Prophet Muhammad, who described him as the ruler of the earth
No one in the Bible is described as the ruler of the earth other than the ruler of Sala (the Prophet Muhammad).
2 .. He preaches the conquest of Jerusalem by the Muslims
3. If he had said (Send the ruler of the earth)
The good news would have been invalidated, but he said (Send the lambs of the ruler of the earth)
Because Jerusalem was not opened until after the death of the Prophet Muhammad, that is, at the time of Omar bin Al-Khattab in the year 637 AD
