So you have the Gen 1 Silent Service? Great to know the AR coating was good back then as well. The Ginault watchmaker told me the AR coating has improved clarity for this generation and they re-shaped the bezel teeth profile and depth for a bit more bite. Also the bezel feel has been fine tuned again.
@@EscapementWatch I had the Gen 1 Ocean Rover, sold it after I got the Gen 2 Ocean Rover aka OR2. Jon is right, they improved on the AR coating and bezel assembly's structure on the OR2. wonderful review and an exceptional watch....just might have to add one to my collection, was thinking of a Steinhart but I definitely prefer this Ginault
It is truly a handsome watch. The who, how and where, make it even more compelling. The pre-order price make it close to irresistible. Wish I could hold it in my hand first. Thank you for putting this brand on my radar. One to follow.
I have a Speed sapphire sandwhich 3861, Sub 114060, BB58 blue, Tag Carrera, etc. I've been looking for a "beater" watch that I can take on travels to "not so safe" areas and this seems to be perfect. There's always a compromise with smaller brands but this seems to nail every point perfectly, even if it has to "copy" one of the best divers of all time...but you know what they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Gonna be picking one up soon.
Nice looking watch. The dial and hands, except for the seconds hand, are definitely an Omega Seamaster homage. The fully-lumed bezel insert's a nice touch.
Bezel is by far the best aspect of the watch and probably the one big reason it's above all other watches at this price range. I'm not a big lume on bezel person but yea it's nice though the 12hour pip lume on a bezel is more than sufficient.
I have an original sand lume no date Ocean Rover and it is superb imo. I will definitely be looking to buy a Silent Service sometime in the near future.
Greetings from St George Utah, First thing, Stunning piece woah incredible value for money and more ,i was very impressive, how well made this watch is..the bezel action..thanks for sharing this impressive brand ..
It's new to me. Let me ask, is this special still going on? If that special is still running, I want to order the one with the date/cyclops. I love this watch and the price is certainly right. I do wonder who will service when the time comes. Does the company have staying power? A risk in a sense about one where the value proposition is so strong it is worth the small gamble.
anyone happen to have one of these and a San Martin SN019? I have one, and the finishing is really nice, especially the bracelet, and cost me under $300. I'm wondering if it would be worth getting the Ginault, or is in redundant?
I own an original Ocean Rover. I wore it recently for ten days while vacationing in Washington State. It stayed within 3 psd the entire trip. That is the original movement, not the Sileta. I love the watch!
I own a few Rolex and Tudor sports models. Initially, i thought it was silly to even want to compare them to the Ginault given the price difference. I was stunned when i received my Ginaults, the quality, fit&finish is up there with the Swiss giants. The value proposition is amazing. Almost Rolex quality and feel for 1/10th the price.
@@RabbitWatchShop nope I am not. I am just sharing my observation. Quality of what Ginault is doing is really getting close to the big R and T. I am not the only Rolex/Tudor/Omega owner who realized this. But I know Ginault's Sellita movement is still a league behind what Rolex is Omega is doing in-house. I am not delusional. But it's also heck a lot cheaper to service Sellita/Eta which is also a big win for watches at this price range.
I received notice today from Ginault after I review the Ocean Rover they want me to film the all new project. So that could be OP and DJ style who knows! Exciting and will probably be 4 months away
I've never pulled the trigger on this brand because it was too close to a Rolex in its design, now it feels unique enough for me to seriously consider. That piece looks so much better than any Rolex let alone just the Submariner. You only own a Rolex to 'show off', there is no other reason. Real horologists choose superior pieces that are sold at far more realistic prices. 'A fool and his money are soon parted' has never been so true as with Rolex owners.
I know alot of Rolex owners that are true watch enthusiast. So I really don't know what you're talking about. Stop speaking for all the Rolex owners because you don't know all of them. The stereo typing in this hobby has gotten out of control. Everyone is quick to judge, just worry about yourself. Choosing a different brand doesn't make you more of an enthusiast than the next guy. Nobody is judge and jury in this hobby. Real horologist choose superior time pieces?? What a bunch of horse shit. You must have a real high opinion of yourself
Sorry - yes Rolex are a "brand" often worn by poseurs who know nothing about watches, but their products are fantastic and justify their reputation. As good as the Ginault is, and I own a Ocean Rover 2, a Rolex Submariner is just better in every way. Which it should be for 5x the price.
Curious on what your thoughts are between this SS and the Monta Skyquest since you've reviewed both. I like the bezel on the SS, with the sapphire cap and lume it'sa looker, but everything else seems to tilt towards the Monta? Thoughts?
Monta is a gmt and costs a lot more especially if you get Ginault's preorder price. Finishing is very close between the two brands, very well done and clean. But the Monta has better finish on the hands, and bracelet, with a superior movement sw300 based vs sw200. Also the Monta bracelet is more comfy with the inner bevels. But if you factor in price the Ginault wins.
I received mine from Ginault last week and the quality is fantastic. However it shipped from Taipei which I found strange since it was supposed to be assembled in America.
This is most likely because a part of the work is done there, it's not clear what work though. I get the feeling that either the bracelet or the regulation work or both is done there. I also own the watch and noticed the exact same thing. It's a great watch but the shady past does cloud my judgement and feelings about it.
Thanks for some clarity. I don't care where a watch is manufactured or assembled as long as the quality is there which in the case of the Silent Service it undoubtably is. I was just a bit confused in this respect. Maybe they should refrain from printing 'Hand Built in America' on the dial or be more transparent about their processes. As for Ginault's past I believe everyone deserves a second chance in life and the fact they have crossed over to the right side of the tracks is a good thing. P.S. Just subscribed to you.
Interesting. I have no idea why Taipei. Mine came shipped from USA via UPS shipping. And fyi the regulation work is done by the brand owner who is a watchmaker and machinist.
Ginault is hand built in the US. They are based in NV and CA. If you are an US customer you will receive your order domestically. If you are in Asia/Oceania Ginault asks their AD to help forward the orders to you via AD's contracted private couriers like DHL/UPS. Ginault used to ship directly to their international customers via USPS EMS. They only started this forwarding practice when the padenmic broke out leaving all commerical flights grounded. The only workable solution back then were private couriers like DHL/UPS who has their own cargo fleet.
At the beginning of the video you mentioned that the watch has been cased/ assembled in Asia. Asia is a continent but would be more specific which country exactly this watch has been cased/ assembled in ?
Ok I think I found it. I said most microbrands are just designers who send their specs to asia and get the watch made. Not ginault. It is hand assembled in America. auxiliary parts, i.e. the gaskets, o-rings, bracelets, crystals, and inserts, are sourced from suppliers in Asia. The movement is Swiss. (Sellita SW200-1) case, crown, bezel are milled out in usa.
Man, I am thirsty for a sub date and cannot get one at retail. My AD has made it pretty clear that is not happening ( words vs actions) I REALLY like the Rover 2 and am considering getting it and telling my AD to piss off. These watches look to be super well made.. Will the lack of the “crown” keep me from being satisfied? Am I that shallow? Questions I need to honestly answer about myself.
If you want a Rolex there is nothing wrong with that. We like the story and Rolex has written a great story. That is what we pay for. But this Ginault is relatively so affordable you can buy it and not notice....while you wait 2-5 years for the sub to come in stock.
Great review, and a very quality watch! However, there is still an homage feel to the Silent Service. Also, at that price you are into Orvis or Longines territory. I would pass on this one unless I have a whole lot of extra cash laying around.
Have you handled a Longines Hydro in the steel? The quality, craftsmanship, and details doesn't even come close to what Ginault is making. The Longines that's comparable in quality would be the Spirit which is a fine watch but then again it's almost 3 times the price of the Ginault. Don't be brainwashed by brand marketing, look at the quality and build, and get the money's worth.
Ginault's quality is really bar none in this price range. I own the OR2 and this Silent Service and can't stop wearing them. They get the majority Of my wrist time and this is coming from a guy who also owns a Sub and the SMP.
I'm seriously considering one of these. I've heard such good things. I am thinking about getting the traveler's 12 hour bezel. I just wonder what the bezel action on that one would be like. That said it seems the quality in these is so good, it's probably very good as well.
I would love a 38mm version and maybe even an all new original design. I will be filming another Ginault in a couple weeks but don't know which one yet.
What I am missing is bespoke build parts like hands, indexes etc. looks beautiful but generic. I am pretty sure Monta is better quality watch, and have own design. Bespoke parts. I would said this is level of new MAEN watches. However Maen have their own design. Again.
For the hand work on the dial and case, and 6 week regulation at the preorder price of $1149...(phase 1 was $1049 I believe) it is a no brainer. But yes I would rank monta higher...better bracelet, hands, and movement sw300 series. But to be fair to ginault, monta's cost more and no one can match monta bracelet in comfort. After I wore monta for a week...every watch I wore after that used to be super comfortable was suddenly NOT!
@@EscapementWatch This watch have Weiss watch hands. Like copy n paste which I don’t like. I would match this watch to new Maen Hudson. However Maen have own design. Don’t forget that now we can also get e.g. Baume Et Mercier Clifton Club Quartz for around 700-800 pounds which offer also unique design, bespoke parts, beautiful finish with rodium plated hands and indexes. Brand heritage and also very comfortable bracelet. I recommend you to check this beautiful watch. I totally agree with Monta comment. I am waiting for more reviews on your channel. Best Regards!
All I ever wanted was a Rolex but seeing what they have now done cpo and selling used watches double the price of new and not even giving you a chance to buy new unless rich and powerful. I get the grey market doing what it does but having Rolex come out and do it just is shady. Looks like I’m going to have to find a new watch
@@EscapementWatch Limited edition, 500 pieces. Actually I have ordered the watch but it will be released in June in India, and internationally/Europe /UK in May. and no one have uploaded a review of this one..! Dying to see a detailed review of this one😅
@EscapementWatch thank you so much for your reply. Very helpful advertising. However I watched the first half of the video 3 times focusing only on the left hand corner and did not see anything indicating that this was paid spokesmanship. Are you sure it's there for this video?
A combination of a Rolex case with the hands, indexes and dial of an old Omega Seamaster 300m Quartz. The watch may be of top quality, but it has no independent design at all.
I picked one up recently. Totally decent watch. It’s a little long lug to lug and I don’t like the friction fit clasp. Otherwise a great looking watch!
@@zacharyparis exactly. The only purpose of that brand is showing off for rich people without any clue about watches to other people without any clue about watches. Sadly, both are a majority among their peers.
YOU ASKED WHO IS GINAULT ? " The brand was created in 2011 and is owned by a watchmaker machinist " . DID you know that watchmaker/machinist was famous in the REPLICA world for making the very best ' fake ' 5 digit FAKE submariners , before he moved his operation to the US and went LEGIT . The guy is a genius watchmaker no doubt , his 5 digit submariner replicas marketed as TC are still coveted and traded in the replica world , and considered ' Not worth buying in gen '. GREAT watches though ( Ginault) , as i said the guy is a genius watchmaker .As far as i know they are assembled and machined in the USA.If you put a major brand name on a watch of that quality , you could double the price .
I mean alright it's a nice watch and at that price it's pretty much a steal but you're not buying a Rolex because it's the best or the most value for money because they aren't you are paying to say something to either yourself or in my opinion wrongly for other people.
Nice video. Seems like it is built beyond its price, but I think your machinist watchmaker friend needs to hire a marketing designer. “Kinetic Continuous”? “kinetic Continuous Date”? Seriously? Unnecessary at best.
I just wish some of these micro brands who quit copying Rolex-no need to if you are already thinking out of the box-go all the way!!! be original TOTALLY!!!!!
Every single watch company that copies the Rolex Submariner only reinforces the supremacy of the Submariner. I would never want a Submariner but Rolex is banking money.

It is hand assembled in America. auxiliary parts, i.e. the gaskets, o-rings, bracelets, crystals, and inserts, are sourced from suppliers in Asia. The movement is Swiss. (Sellita SW200-1) case, crown, bezel are milled out in usa.

Again... another good quality wrist watch with Rolex case style! I wish these companies can do their own case designs
They have an all new project coming later this year, so maybe
@@EscapementWatch thanks! Do you have an OR2 video? I’ll go look.
No but Ginault wants a second video made, so stay tuned it will probably be a OR2 maybe something new?
@@EscapementWatch got any coupon codes for ginault?!? 😉
I can put a crown on the dial for you for an extra 10 grand. On second thought I'll do it for 5 .
Open the caseback and show us the movement!
Great review, and a very quality watch! However, there is still an homage feel to the Silent Service. Also, at that price you are into Orvis or Longines
territory. I would pass on this one unless I have a whole lot of extra cash laying around.
Longines is a low end swiss brand, but I agree that this too much of a homage.
If you're gonna do it right, and this seems to be done right. What's with the ghost position?
Is it returnable if we don’t like it?
The only best built watch in the world is Oakley time tank Time Machine..and there’s no watch that comes close..
Gotta love a red second hand👏👏
Can this work for a 6.5” wrist ?
yes
A good competitor for Davosa.
you never said anything about the bezel insert material, so is it aluminum or ceramic??
@2:07
@@EscapementWatch thanks
Ginault's quality is really bar none in this price range. I own the OR2 and this Silent Service and can't stop wearing them. They get the majority
Of my wrist time and this is coming from a guy who also owns a Sub and the SMP.
I'm seriously considering one of these. I've heard such good things. I am thinking about getting the traveler's 12 hour bezel. I just wonder what the bezel action on that one would be like. That said it seems the quality in these is so good, it's probably very good as well.
The 12hr is Bi-Directional...and features a softer, more elegant 60 teeth bezel profile.
The 12-hr traveler version has the GMT style bi-directional bezel. You can turn both ways and feels like a Rolex GMT in terms of the tactile feedback.
I’m getting the old omega seamaster sword hands vibe
I love mine!
I would love a 38mm version and maybe even an all new original design. I will be filming another Ginault in a couple weeks but don't know which one yet.
Very nice, beats seiko at same price
what a watch!
Ginaults are the best watches on the market in my opinion
Are you listing this for sale
nope
So, where do I do the pre-order?
The very first link under the video in the description.
Weiss has copy paste 1940s flieger handset on it. This watch is Milspec from rolex handset.
It watch looks WAY MORE like a Omega Planet Ocean than a Submariner
Let’s talk about that seiko on your wrist tho 😊
King Seiko 56KS in mint condition, freshly serviced and all new modern heavy duty gaskets.
@@EscapementWatch must be nice !
oh yea I love it!
@@EscapementWatch one day I’ll find one as nice
Watch looks super nice but that bezel grips looks bad IMO
Does Ginault also service their watches as well?
Yes you can email service to arrange a service, but since the movement is an Sellita sw200 any local watchmaker can service it with ease for cheap!
Does it have a ghost date?
If you get one with no date yea it's got a ghost date.
Please review the sla069j1
hmmm I think that is a boutique edition, which means I wont have access to it. Sorry
@@EscapementWatch Limited edition, 500 pieces.
Actually I have ordered the watch but it will be released in June in India, and internationally/Europe /UK in May. and no one have uploaded a review of this one..!
Dying to see a detailed review of this one😅
hahah oh man yea most likely I wont ever see it then.
Hi. Nice review. Were you compensated for this review?
Yes, you can check every youtube video at the start in the top left corner of your screen it will say paid promotion.
@EscapementWatch thank you so much for your reply. Very helpful advertising. However I watched the first half of the video 3 times focusing only on the left hand corner and did not see anything indicating that this was paid spokesmanship. Are you sure it's there for this video?
Yes its during the first couple seconds.
Looks like an omega 2254
A combination of a Rolex case with the hands, indexes and dial of an old Omega Seamaster 300m Quartz. The watch may be of top quality, but it has no independent design at all.
Very original. s/
Why doesn’t the longines hydrocoquest get more love?
We have a couple older videos on the hydroconquest on the channel.
I picked one up recently. Totally decent watch. It’s a little long lug to lug and I don’t like the friction fit clasp. Otherwise a great looking watch!
Looks like the offspring od submariner and Omega 2254
PT5000 right?
incorrect
With actual Rolexes being impossible for most people to buy a decent homage like this should do well. It's not for me though.
Homage is a homage (only homage, doesn’t matter what’s the quality will be).
Free watch?
Sample unit sending it back ASAP!
I'm more interested in the king seiko on your wrist
It is a 1974 56KS ref# 5625-7041
I won't buy a Rolex ever, thank you.
But they are the best watches ever made and are worth 5x retail and everyone will think you are cool if you have one. 💩
@@zacharyparis exactly. The only purpose of that brand is showing off for rich people without any clue about watches to other people without any clue about watches. Sadly, both are a majority among their peers.
Then, you don't understand that Rolex is an investment that can be used as a jewelry and also give you the time and date 😂
Hand made in "america"? Is it make in Bolivia, Panama, Mexico...?
Lmao great catch
When I hear people say they are from America, or I am an American I never wondered if it's the US, Mexico, or somewhere else. 😏
@@AdamPark-uq6cn yeah, you should go out a little bit more
I mean alright it's a nice watch and at that price it's pretty much a steal but you're not buying a Rolex because it's the best or the most value for money because they aren't you are paying to say something to either yourself or in my opinion wrongly for other people.
Nice video. Seems like it is built beyond its price, but I think your machinist watchmaker friend needs to hire a marketing designer. “Kinetic Continuous”? “kinetic Continuous Date”? Seriously? Unnecessary at best.
haha yeah another way to say perpetual like Rolex. I agree it is too much and I'll suggest toned down text for the next generation.
I just wish some of these micro brands who quit copying Rolex-no need to if you are already thinking out of the box-go all the way!!! be original TOTALLY!!!!!
Rolex design language is great for sales
@@EscapementWatch i know but copying isn't.
@@EscapementWatch i know but originality rules in my book.
Every single watch company that copies the Rolex Submariner only reinforces the supremacy of the Submariner. I would never want a Submariner but Rolex is banking money.
No one who’s wanting a sub will want this watch instead. Cmon now
good point! The ones who want a sub want it for the name only and to make sure people know they have that name on the wrist.
I could, but prefer to invest my money rather than over spending on a watch
