  • Kayaking adventures come in all shapes and sizes, but sometimes the best kayak adventures can be found in your own 'backyard'! This was an exploratory paddling trip we did in Ontario, Canada.

    Hey Ken. I’m new to your channel and am thoroughly enjoying your helpful videos. The wife and I bought a condo in South Carolina last year so that we could get away from our home in South Florida from time to time, and to enjoy the many benefits from living in the Carolina’s. We bought a couple tandem inflatables last weekend due to the inability to fit a hard kayak through the door of the condo. Anyway, I have done quite a bit of paddling in the past, but my wife not so much. So we have been enjoying your insightful, educational and thought provoking videos together, and just wanted to thank you so much for what you do. You may not know the impact that the information you provide has on new (and long term) kayakers, but I for one can say that you have helped us to get off the couch and into the great outdoors. Thanks so much, and we hope that you and your family have an incredible 4th. Doug

    Neat river! I also love kayaking and that combination paddle board/ kayak has peaked my interest. Thanks for this video and I will look up that snake river, it looks like fun !

    Hi Ken, have you thought about doing a Kayak Trip planning video? Might be a good topic for the "off season". Maybe cover subjects like how to pick a place, things to consider like permits for camping or ramp fees, maps or scouting, gear choice, and maybe some other resources, tip and tricks an experienced adventurer can lend to us newbies.
    Great Video!

    Great to see you enjoying time with the family. Nice relaxing paddle. I don’t live too far from there either so have to check it out. I just subscribed too. I’ve paddled canoes my whole life and recently bought a kayak. Looking forward to more suggested paddling places in eastern Ontario !

      Welcome! I spent a huge part of my childhood in the Lanark area, as my folks live there. Lots to explore there too... I've had my eye on the Clyde River for many years... would love to explore it the same way. Have you paddled on it?

      @@PaddleTV sorry to say I have not yet. It is on my list. I cross it often as it’s long and many roads go over it, each time I think I’d love to explore that. I’ll let you know when I do. Your enthusiasm is inspiring. I’ve learned a lot watching your channel as a new (73yr old) kayaker ! Looking forward to more content.

    • @PaddleTV

      Yup! A lot of people think of 'first descents' as the first time a section of water has ever been paddled... I think 'first descents' should be thought of as the first time you paddle a section of water. There's nothing like that first trip down a new waterway...

    A thought for your videos. You travel to many places. Please list any that offer shuttle service. It’s a make or break trip if you have a hard time getting back to your starting point. It would also be great advertising for some small business.

    That was sooo cool. Glad your wife and daughter enjoying paddling too so this kind of trip is possible. No mosquitos? I saw someone else wondering that too. My grandson and I went day camping today and miraculously there were no mosquitos there today either.

      We couldn't believe it was bug free either. We had a couple of cooler mornings before this day, and so that mush have knocked them down, because I was expecting to be swatting all day long. :)

    Nicely made video, albeit a sales plug for whatever make of SUP hybrid you were using. Might have been nicer if less emphasis on the brand and more on the rich experience.

  • @Joe-xq1nt
    @Joe-xq1nt 2 года назад

    So I looked up the isle switch . $995. Are they serious, they are a solid $600 to high. So you had over 2 grand in use in this video for two of these. For under a grand you could all three have your own SUP or something like the GoPlus drop stitch sit on top kayak.

  • @paultyson9070
    @paultyson9070 2 года назад

    I've actually paddled it twice. Once in the fall and once in early spring. Both times we put in at Egan Road. The fall trip we went downstream. And the early spring trip we went upstream and back. It's a nice leisurely little river.

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 года назад

      Very cool to hear! There are a couple of other sections that I've been scouting on Google Maps that I'm really excited to explore. In particular, from Lake Dore down, although it looks like you need to be ready to deal with a lot of log jams in there. Definitely a low water exploratory.

    • @paultyson9070
      @paultyson9070 2 года назад

      @@PaddleTV you could make it a little bit down. But you'd probably have to carry over Burnt Bridge Road. And portage through Shaw Woods. But like you say, you'd soon run into downed trees.
      I know that you can't make it all the way to Osceola from Egan Road.

    I purchased an Onyx vest recently and can’t figure out what the raised square stitched to it is for. Your wife’s vest had the same thing near the left shoulder. Might you or any viewers know what it is? Thanks.

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 года назад +1

      We were using Sennheiser G4's, which is overkill for most people. The GoRode 2 is a great mic for more everyday use, which I often recommend to people.

      My experience, creeks and river like that are not mosquito havens. It may have to do with alll the wildlife that eats them is there to.

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 года назад +1

      I have no idea why we didn't deal with mosquitos. I think it was because we had a couple of cooler mornings right before this day. I had bug dope in my bag, and was fully expecting to use it! :)

    I cant do that here. First its been rainning since Apr 1066 and second I'm too cheap to pay the river licence. ( Yes they tax us in the UK to paddle on the rivers). I'd swap those buoyancy aids over. No leg strap, they mite pop over your head if you hit the water. I found the baltic canoe 50N buoyancy aid 40-130kg are better for growing kids and men with an expanding waistline.

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 года назад

      Did you just suggest I get a different PFD because of my expanding waistline??? :) Ha! Cheers.

    • @peterkitchener8787
      @peterkitchener8787 2 года назад

      @@PaddleTV No but....hmmmm trying to find the right PFD for the height and weight of a person is hard. Better to use one that fits all and buoyancy its rated at 65N not the normal 50. ( Did I talk my way out of it?)
