    Attention to detail is what sorts out the wheat from the chaff and you sir have attention to detail, another great Amiga tutorial :)

    Would it be possible to solder the extra chips on the mainboard and keep the trapdoor expansion?
    That way we could have 1MB of chip RAM, and 512k of slow RAM?
    Thank you for the video, also.

    • @retrofriends
      @retrofriends  Год назад +1

      No, sorry. The chipset only supports one MB. Soldering memory to the main board and shorting a jumper to activate it effectively disables the trapdoor memory. Obviously there are other mods that can be done, but at that point I would recommend choosing fast memory using the side expansion slot.

    Excellent tutorial thanks. The question for me is what is the benefit of this? If playing games, will it make any difference?

      There are some later games that actually require 1M of chipmem. But mostly it's because we are going to put an accelerator and mass storage on this one. Stay tuned!

    On these rev 6 boards only 1/2 of the board ram is populated. Could you not just populate the missing chips, add in the missing capacitor and get 1meg chip that way?

    • @retrofriends
      @retrofriends  Год назад

      Yes, but then you can't use the trapdoor memory slot. To each his own.

    Dopo che hai tagliato il ponticello al jumper JP7A e hai provato il multimetro,il multimetro suonava,vuol dire che il contatto c'era ancora,dopo hai tagliato bene il ponticello?,nel video non si è visto

      Hello to my friends in Italia! With the help of google translate, he asks why my multimeter made beep sound after the cutting of JP7. It is because my meter beeps when there is partial continuity, and a solid sound when there is a dead short. Il mio misuratore ha un suono solido quando si sente un breve suono ammiccante quando è aperto parzialmente.

      Secondo te con 1mb di chip ram funziona ancora lo slot di espansione?
      Li vedra 1,5Mb??

      @@riccardotrizio1545 se il lavoro è stato fatto a regola d'arte e non ci sono problemi sui jumper modificati,in teoria si,l'A500 dovrebbe indirizzare correttamente 1 MB chip e 512 kb fast,salvo brutte sorprese,ovviamente il FAT AGNUS deve essere almeno l'8372A

      @@riccardotrizio1545 quello che ti ho detto nell'altro commento non vale però per l'A500 del video perche i jumper sono configurati per mappare la fast in chip,l'altro commento si riferisce a un A500 sempre rev.6A ma con i 512kb montati sulla motherboard e si modifica solo un jumper,il JP2,cosi L'AMIGA ha 1 MB on board,e lo slot continua a essere mappato in fast.scusa se non te lo detto prima.

      For the vast majority of floppy based games a stock a500 with standard trapdoor expansion will be fine.

    Will this mod work with this hardware?
    Great channel btw I just got back into the Amiga after 20 years.

      It should. The Amiga sees it as slow RAM, should work as chip RAM.

    How does this mod effect on software like games that won't run on 1Mb ?
    Can you add expansion cards after this ?

    • @retrofriends
      @retrofriends  3 года назад

      Games that don't like 1MB, won't like this 1MB any more than any other 1MB Amiga. Getting an a500 to run with 1MB of chip RAM always makes the trapdoor memory unable to be used, regardless of the method. Like any othe mod, some people will want this (OCS gamers), some will not (productivity users).

      @@retrofriends There is exactly one exception, the Adram505, it adds chip ram directly through the trapdoor with no mod need. 1MB chip + Realtime Clock, lol. Not sure how it works, but it does. Also made it so I couldn't softkick, as that trick needed the 512k of slowram, and I didn't have it. confused me for quite a while, as there is very little info about these upgrades available.
