Ms Cools and the Zombies from the off..... what a way to start! Loving your routes ("roots") and and especially your bikes.....the retro mod look is great and practical. Made me buy wider tyres for one of my steel bikes. Keep up the good work, you two.
I've been to Silicon Valley lots. But, never visited the East Bay. I learned so much about it in 13.5 minutes. Really enjoyed. Thanks, Henry & Ms. Cools
Thanks All-Rounder! I wanted to have more of a conversation, but the mic I used on this ride picks up too much of the ambient noise. I learn something new each time. Happy Holidays!
One thing I love about Mr Wildeberry videos is the eclectic choice of music. One can never guess what sound track one might get in a new video. Much different from those videos with electronic beat that sounds monotonous. Also there are quiet passage with no music and little conversation that just create a nice contrast.
Hi Henry, just wanted to let you know how much we enjoy your vlogs, they just get better and better. Best wishes to you and Therese for 2019 from Jim and Janine in the UK.
Hi Henry, have you ever seen a copy of the book "The golden age of handbuilt bicycles" by Jan Heine and Pierre Pruderies, published by Rizzoli? Its basically a photo history of French randonneur cycles. Its a fantastic book. Jim.
Zombies! Excellent, esp beginning of vid with music, cars, n you guys. I went to see them at my jr high school back in the 60s-yep-fun but too bad keyboard and leader, I think, was having difficulties w John Law and didn't make it. I just discovered you from Russ @Pathlesspedaled-Thank you!
C.B. Oliver thank you! The classic car club looked to be enjoying the day almost as much as we were. It would have been great to see them at the cafe. Maybe next time...
The Golden Age of mountain biking was a great time to start biking. I still remember my 30 lbs Schwann Mesa Runner from back then. Good to see your friend catch up with you in the Vanagon at the end.
Another great video. Keeps me inspired during the winter months and something different to watch , as I do my endurance workouts. Best off all to you and Ms. Cools, stay safe.
Hi Henry, Once again another masterful and professional vlog, they always put a smile on my face. Keep the good work up and have a happy Christmas and a Wonderful New Year. All the Best from the uk, Colin💥✨
Nice vlog thank you. One of your guys relocated over to Dublin ie some Californian cyclist poor guy our weather is a bit of a shocker I think. Well we were all fascinated with his retro bike and gear, it was a real talking point. Now I see where it came from, there is such an eclectic mix of equipment between disc breaks and down tube shifters, all very interesting. He is now one of thirteen of us from our cycling club who are doing the PBP 2019 and we are starting to get all keyed up and dramatic at this stage. Our 400 qualifier is this Sat and its a evening start to replicate our Paris start times. Like the videos, relaxed and very watchable during an afternoon tea break. Best wishes
@@Henrywildeberry Thank you for the good wishes, the 400 went well for all of us. Safely around and some stunning weather around the South East of Ireland. Dublin, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford, then back home. It was cold at night 2 degrees C maybe, it saps the energy and Ireland is empty of people in the dark. A insane silver service breakfast in full cycling gear at a hotel in Wexford could not be more different then scavenging in Petrol Stations and Convenience stores the rest of the time. 600 in two weeks.
Henry & Ms. Cools rode right past the location of Oakland's lost primeval Redwood forest. It is pretty much confirmed that the giant Redwoods in the Oakland hills were the tallest and/or most massive Coast Redwood trees that ever existed. We lost some amazing genetic stock when these trees were felled - and then their stumps & root stock dug up for shingles, the stumps were so massive. If only they had been left in place, clone fair rings would have grown from the mother trees and preserved the genes.
That's very sad. I ride past numerous stumps on my daily rides that are easily 15-feet in diameter and had they not been cut down would be some of the largest trees in the world (certainly the tallest). I believe most of these trees were logged, milled, and sent to San Francisco to rebuild the city shortly after the 1906 earthquake.
@@Henrywildeberry indeed! A Cal professor wrote a scathing article after the trees were felled. Apparently, the stumps' dimensions matched the footprint of Cal's bell tower, the Campanile. But since it's base is almost 100 feet wide, that's obviously an exaggeration. But if anywhere near close, that boggles the mind! Then again, these are the "navigator" trees ship captains used to find the entrance to the Golden Gate, so they dwarfed the forest around them. Thus the strong suspicion they were indeed the largest ever. Again, a real shame they were lost. Thanks for the reply!
Instant "like" for the music, and your content is pretty good. I can tell you enjoy doing what you are doing. ;) Keep up the good work! Greeting from Bulgaria by the way!
Wow....looks like a fun ride. "What kind of soil is this?" -- my favorite line. Was that in the script or just ad-libbed?? I rode today, December, 23...while my spouse Lisa and daughter Claire went to pick up Lisa's mother at the Airport...she is Cuban, from Miami, and flying in for the Christmas Eve Cuban Feast...I mention this because even though I was riding around, out to The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum near Dulles Airport, and wound up with about 85 miles, I only saw about 5 bicyclists. I frequently ride to VO in Annapolis and I almost never see another bicyclist, even if I go the long way (about 90 miles). I watch your video for a few minutes, and there are bicyclists everywhere, as are the bike lanes. The entire East Coast of the USA is many orders of magnitude away (despite great advances even in Philly, DC, NYC), from California, when it comes to bike culture and bike infrastructure...
Hi Mike! It's nice to be able to get out for what was just going to be a short ride and ended up doing 85 miles! The Bay Area as a whole does have a big cycling culture, both for sport and commuting. In the surrounding counties the number of cyclists on the roads drops pretty dramatically. Where I live in Sonoma County there are plenty of times where I ride without seeing another cyclist on the road. I am looking forward to more trains in California, because then it will really open up cycling for more than just sport, even though that's great too. Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco have pretty good public transportation and bike lanes, so cycling is an an easy alternative to driving. The other places I have cycled are in Oregon and Washington. Portland, so far has the best mix of public transport and well marked bike lanes. I hope the East coast continues to take the needed steps towards better cycling infrastructure.
Relatively new to watching your videos and have been working my way through the back catalogue during winter trainer sessions - they're all great, but you're really hitting your groove these days. What kind of jersey is Ms. Cools wearing? Looks like a nice merino piece with well-placed pockets..
Hi Dan - Thank you for the feedback it is much appreciated! She's wearing a Torm Jersey. I did a review video on this product. It's really a value for what you get. ruclips.net/video/H2fPYgiloBI/видео.html Note, the sizing seems to be somewhat variable from year to year. What I used to wear in a small I now prefer in a medium. Take a close look at the sizing chart and email the company if you have any doubt. They were quick and willing to answer questions. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
If it wasn't for the disc brake in the opening sequence I wouldn't have known what year it was! ...speaking of discs, what fork is that on the lovely ladies bike ?
I love all your videos, music choices and of course Ms Cools. I however do struggle with the wide video volume difference between the voice conversations and the music. I constantly have to jump to turn the volume way down when you cut to music. It was particularly so in the Seattle Portlandia video. It is not my intention to criticize but to ask you to consider not making the music so loud relative to the conversations. Just a thought and thank you so much for the videos you make!
I appreciate the honest feedback. I'm still not sure why music audio is playing so loudly. I'm constantly setting it lower when I do the edit. I'll work on it! Thanks again.
No not yet. I'm still hand holding the camera to lower the number of extras I need to carry on the ride. However, I am upgrading the mic as soon as it arrives. I ordered a small shotgun mic and will be giving it a try.
Hi Jim - Sometimes, but normally she is at home. It sort of depends on the ride and where I am. On the really long rides I send her to my parents house. Other times, my neighbors will come over and check on her.
Very common assumption. Oakland is a truly amazing city with an amazing spectrum. From my house, I'm at the lake in 1 minute. I can ride 10 minutes and be at the bay, or in 30 minutes' climb, riding in the redwoods, or riding in a VERY sketchy part of town. Diversity barely describes it. (Much like the bay area in general.) Henry & Ms. Cools rode right past the location of Oakland's lost primeval Redwood forest. It is pretty much confirmed that the giant Redwoods in the Oakland hills were the tallest and/or most massive Coast Redwood trees that ever existed. I really like your video style. Relaxing and authentic. Ride on Henry and Therese!
New sub from Castro Valley here. This is my backyard! ❤️✌️
So nice to find your channel, Henry. You've showcased Oakland beautifully!
You're getting really good at this. The beginning looked like a bike company commercial.
Love it. Music and all. Nice to see Ms. Cools give a little interview as well. ;)
Thanks All-Rounder! I wanted to have more of a conversation, but the mic I used on this ride picks up too much of the ambient noise. I learn something new each time. Happy Holidays!
Nice. I ride many of those roads weekly. I grew up near the Grand Lake Theater.
Im moving to Oakland in a month from the Twin Cities! This sort of biking is why im moving!!!

Love the music you choose for your vids. I just had to go to Spotify and create a huge playlist of songs from the 60s.
Reminiscing.
Hey Henry. Not sure how I had missed this vlog. It was a great distraction to my day. The first 2 minutes we're magical! Love the tune !
another video with these beautiful music that you use every time. You are

Great video, the opening scene was awesome!

Another great vid. Earlier on I was trying to work out if you and Ms Cools were a thing. Ha! Love the whole vibe of your mixed riding vids and tunes.
Thanks Ryan!

Angel Asenov zdraste! Bulgaria is a lovely country! I visited there in 2004:)
That was fun! Thanks, little home sick now!
Great music, ride, views and video......may both of you have a Happy Holidays!
