Jackson resident here: I had a coworker move back to Omaha, Nebraska because he said the pay was the same and living costs were much less

Oof. Not quite as epic of a landscape in Nebraska. Can’t blame him though. Money talks

I lived in Jackson Hole for 4 years. I sold and got out. The place is great to visit but really not to live. The first year i thought it was awesome and so great there after it was depressing. Now if i had a lot of mad money each and everyday then yes Jackson would be just fine. Basically it's like this all the Rich at the top and then the poor working 2-3 jobs to live in garbage and cater to the wealthy. Jackson Hole is the largest Democrat stronghold throughout the state and these democrats are in large part - part time residents that are beyond well off. There are families there that have been there for generations but are being pushed out. The millionaires there explain it like this - they are being pushed out by billionaires. The middle class is being pushed out by the millionaires and the poor are being pushed further down and more poor because of the middle class. Jackson Hole sees a lot of tourism because it is 1.5 hours away from Old Faithful 30 minutes from Teton National Park and skiing. In the winter J.H., is gloomy and depressing unless you can ski 24/7 beyond that it seems the locals drink and work alot. J.H., also imports a lot of foreigners' and immigrants to fill positions to cater to the wealthy and those that visit. I recently went back to visit family and I am even happier that i sold and got out as within 2 years the place has gotten even worse but it was great to be a visitor. Everything that made this town great will eventually be no more why because the rich will continue to push all those families out that put in the work that made it a great place. Final thoughts Jackson Hole is extremely over-rated over-priced. I tell everyone that wants to go there and then to the park this. Stop at Idaho Falls Idaho do your shopping there to include snacks, foods and drinks then head up to the park through Jackson Hole. You will save $$$$$ just in food/snack costs compared to what you would spend in J.H., or in the park. It's sad when you see alot of the workers there eating Ramen noodle then see the rich eating steak and premium cuisine foods. Auto Fuel costs are extreme there compared to other parts of the state why because your in a "hole" and close to the park and isolated there are 3 ways in and out in the summer 2 in the winter 1 if it's a bad winter. Costs to heat your home are extreme in the winter. And the businesses pay crap wages while making millions but they have high costs as well just to operate. right now one of the ways into Jackson hole is blocked because the pass slid down the mountain so now there are two ways in through the park and through Alpine Wyoming they are trying to open the pass back up with a band aid for now.

Very true. Seems like most don’t spend the majority of their time there. More like a vacation home.

One question. Who cleans their homes and does their landscaping? I imagine they must have live-in help.

Seems like a lot of people come in from surrounding areas. Or they "over occupy" housing nearby.

I lived in Jackson and surrounding areas for 15 years. Left in the late nineties but still maintain connections there. The people moving in and driving the market and growth don’t seem to have much of a connection to the community or its history. This is playing out in many communities in the Rocky mountains. Glad I got to experience the best of what Jackson was and the families who built it out of nothing…

They live in Victor and Driggs Idaho, which is not necessarily cheap either. Nurses, real state agents and odd job ski bums also live there. Its a dysfunctional culture in which if you don’t have money they don’t want to know you. As a single man women date you if you can help them w rent. It’s an interesting place to live.

How big are the mosquitoes? If like in northern Canada's you will need a shotgun to clear a path in the air to walk to the chair on the porch

Other channels and I follow up why they are there years ago. Yet. It's earth's normal. What I teach my son. The safest place on earth is off of earth. Meaning. Being alive. I personally will never go back. Other than them. To experience. These people drive up the prices wherever they live.
