I am going to be attempting a large scale mural of Strelitzia and their awesome leaves. So the question is do you have a suggestion for masking out the flower other than contact adhesive as I doubt that would hold well on a PVA painted wall. I am definitely going to try use your amazing techniques so thank you for this video!
You can find the full lesson where I show you how to mix the colours as well as paint the flower in real time on my website: onlineartlessons.com/class/how-to-paint-a-strelitzia-flower-in-acrylic/
You draw the sketch onto the canvas, then you use clear cover to cover the canvas. Clear cover is like a roll of transparent plastic sticker. You can get clear cover here: paintbasket.com/go/clearcover (affiliate link) You then cut around the edges of the clear cover using a craft knife to create a mask for the flower. The clear cover over the background is peeled off and discarded.
@@jillhill9790ah, the reference photo and template for the class is available to patrons on my website: onlineartlessons.com/class/how-to-paint-a-strelitzia-flower-in-acrylic/ You can then either use the grid method or carbon paper to transfer it to your canvas
@@jillhill9790You can paint on acrylic paper, no problem. You should have enough confidence / knowledge after painting the whole flower to attempt the stem on your own. Good luck. Let me know how it turned out :)
I had to comment on the speed painting comment :has it ever crossed your mind that they put that pause button there for a reason. It doesn't matter how slow he goes he will not match another painters pace-because each of us goes at our own-as does he! I happen to be extreemly slow, so pause And I really get a workout - But I also don't miss anything that way, and can see what I need to as many times as I want. Give it a shot! It's good to go!!!
speed painting only shows YOU can paint. it does not teach anything to anyone. you have talent but how are we supposed to learn from you if you go so fast.
PaintBasket Thanks for the explanation. For someone new it’s hard to figure out what to do about it being so fast as one may have no experience with the constantly stopping/starting the video technique. Etc.
Your discription is as interesting to listen to, as your videos are to watch. Now I see what all the fuss was about! Thanks

+Liza de Fasquelle I have used Clear cover - www.paintbasket.com/go/clearcover
thanks alot
Can you use the adhesive on watercolor paper? Great demo :)
+Hilda Vandergriff unfortunately not. The adhesive is actually used to cover books. For watercolor it is best to use masking fluid
,Thank you I loved your flower
