The next day, May 7, Opening Day, about 150 of Abba's most dedicated, adoring fans who had tickets & had travelled from across Europe & around the World lined the Museum's red carpet at 9 am in anticipation that Abba members might walk down it. Swedish TV was there, doing interviews. No-one came, except for 2 Abba look-a-likes and a juggler. Bjorn made a 30-sec speech no-one saw or heard, he was surrounded by news media. The museum staff were terse, close mouthed, and strict. What Great Fun.
So here I am, May 7 in the Abba Museum, on Opening Day. You could see, hear, and even feel the disappointment of the fans there, we all really, really hoped some members of Abba would greet us, or at least wave from a balcony, on Opening Day. So we made the difficult best of it, seeing things most of us have seen a thousand times in books, videos, etc. When I exit, 4 hours later, I learn Bjorn & Frida were outside doing an interview for the Today Show for the USA, and no-one told us inside.
I have seen many music artists live, starting in 1966 with The Beatles, a few others were The Rolling Stones, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, U2, Santana, Aerosmith, Madonna, Elton John, Diana Ross, & The Beach Boys, who during their 50th Anniversary Tour, ACTUALLY THANKED THE AUDIENCE for coming to see them where-ever the band played. Abba, by far my favorite, could learn something about Fan Appreciation from the B. Boys, WHEN FANS COME FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO VISIT ABBA'S MUSEUM INAUGURATION.
July 1, 2014, I went to the Abba Anniversary Party on April 7 in London England at the Tate Modern Fine Arts Center, and everything Abba did wrong at the Museum Opening they did right at Tate Modern, and it warmed the hearts and brightened the souls of the 1000 Abba Fans, rich and poor, from 43 countries around the world who were able to make the trip to London, many crossing oceans and continents. It was a memorable moment in Abba history. The video of Bjorn and Frida's presentation at Tate Fine Arts Center is on YT.
We all thank Bjorn Ulvaeus for the tremendous effort that he personally put into making this ABBA museum a reality. We, the adoring fans, truly appreciate anything that ABBA members do to share the ABBA magic with all of us throughout the world. All we have left is the incredible music, the wonderful memories, and now a great Museum to visit. Check out the new ABBA website at: bjornulvaeus. com
What must be emphasized in this video, is that this was a PRIVATE, INVITATION-ONLY event. The general public, meaning some of Abba's most dedicated, adoring fans, many of whom made the trip from across Europe and around the World, often at great effort and expense to be at the Museum Opening, WERE NOT WELCOME HERE, not even from the fence on the public street if Abba and their Management (Polar Music) could prevent it. I would have been happy in the park across the street with my binoculars...
I agree 100% with Mr. Silverio's comment (and by the way, "adoring" is my word, see my comments below, & check my extensive Abba comment feed of the past 5 years, I was one of the first fans to start the 'thoughtful comment philosophy' toward this group). So for those of us for whom the magic of Abba is a reality, and who pull out all the stops to get to the Grand Opening of this wonderful museum, it is not asking too much for us to be considered at this event, instead of ignored as irrelevant.
There is a dark side behind this opening event. I was there, from 3 pm - 6 pm, after a long last minute flight from western North America, and I specifically asked a Museum Management Member overseeing the preparations, as to whether "any Abba Members would be around today or tomorrow". She answered tersely "I don't know." It seemed things were winding down here, TV cameras being shut down, people leaving etc, so I left to sight-see Stockholm. 3 hours later, this PRIVATE event occurred.
The Opening of the ABBA Museum is a great Accomplishment. What a tribute to the greatest Pop Group of All Time!!! The legendary group will always be remembered as an incredibly creative and talented quartet. Check out the new ABBA website at: bjornulvaeus. com
And it gets even worse. I actually left the museum area for 1 hour just before my ticket time, things were so boring. I got tired of the juggler in the museum courtyard, I did not travel 10,000 km 1-way on a tight budget to see him. A TV crew was setting up, could this be for ABBA? I asked the staff as I entered the museum at 12 noon, they dismissed it, uninterested and unconcerned. They acted like I must enter the museum at my ticket time, or else......(like forfeit my ticket, and get lost).
Hello museum folks! Just an advice, hurry up and enter a bunch of key words to this video so that people can stumble upon it when they search for ABBA related stuff.
That version of 'Summer Night City' isn't fast enough. The original is faster. I get a kick out how Bjorn Ulvaeus, sounds similar to Christoph Waltz! INGLORIOUS DISCO MUSIC! "I need me 100 Disco hits! SOUND GOOD?!" F-yeah!
