Gene Snyder my favorite player in 1984 eighty thousand dollars funny here what else is good was Gene's $3000 hits twice and also his victory are in the intros man a great one ever in Press Your Luck History for 1984!
I like Annemarie, Nina Jo, Michael (the one who won $33380 while having to survive with 3 whammies the entire time), and others in the 1985-1986 seasons
+Joseph Lamontagne I remember that guy on USA Network and freaked out when he won. there was another girl who survived 9 passed spins and 2 additional and I was like "she is a legend".
The crazy thing about his big reaction hitting the intros is how much it obscures their big battle that led up to it - one that was ostensibly a harbinger of things to come this month...!
All three being New Yorkers adds an interesting flavor to this. (I hadn't realized Nancy was too; on her first game, which I hadn't seen until last night, she mentions that she worked at Kennedy [JFK] Airport.)
12:21 should've been 1 of the "you're out" whammies or maybe this was before they stared doing that, but that particular one totally fits getting your 4th Whammy
Gene Snyder was more subdued two years later when he appeared on Rafferty Card Sharks and lost his match, winning only $100(he was on in the first few weeks of the run, back before the prize cards were added and you won $100 for winning a game, which was stopped when the prize cards were added). THis PYL episode will be airing on GSN in 40 minutes. WHen Peter TOmarken was on Maury POvich's show in November 1996 alongside Gene Rayburn and Brett SOmers(the last time those two IIRC appeared on TV together), Peter was mostly there to talk about GSN. THey showed a clip of this win when mentioning PYL(when Peter appeared on Oprah in May 1996 to talk about GSN briefly, Press your Luck wasn't mentioned at all)
Gene Snyder reunited with Peter Tomarken when he appeared (minus mustache) on the game show Wipeout (1988), with Tomarken hosting. Peter, unfortunately, made no references to Gene's Press Your Luck run. Gene didn't fare so well either on Wipeout, winning $325, and losing in the second round.
@@Modano1973 serveral PYL alumni appeared on Wipeout. Peter never mentioned them on PYL either. The closest he came to a PYL reference was on an early episode when a Wipeout was hit, he said "Whammy" instead of "Wipeout"
Did anyone notice near the end, in Gene's total, he had a 777..... Nancy takes the final spin she should have passed, while she had a 666 in her total. :O
Nancy should've passed the last spin. I'm not saying it just because she hit a whammy but the odds of Gene hitting more than $2400 without getting an additional spin was unlikely as the only cash spaces without a spin over that were the $2500 squares.
also don't forget that there are 14 panels out of 54 that gave money plus an additional spin. The thing I liked about this game was they gave people a chance if they were behind.
schmolik1 I'm inclined to agree; even though it was still close enough that Gene could have won even if she'd passed, by taking it herself she brought the risk upon herself - look how that turned out!
Why was the specific amount of money that Gene desired "eighty-thousand dollars"? Did he need that much money in particular to get out of debt or something? He sure raved like an egotistical lunatic about "EIGHTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!" And I thought Michael Larson was cocky! ~Dutch

9:32 Gene Snyder: the original Leroy Jenkins with the "$80,000!" Battle cry!
that Gene Snyder is one hell of a character, i like this guy!!!
Gene Snyder should be a comedian.
This episode never gets old
My favorite game with my favorite players! GENE VS NANCY
Gene, Gene the reaction machine...
my favorite contestant on that series
Gary BigTiger Hardin I liked Michael Haynes and Maari
I like Annemarie, Nina Jo, Michael (the one who won $33380 while having to survive with 3 whammies the entire time), and others in the 1985-1986 seasons
Gary BigTiger Hardin Can't forget Steve Bryant, Geralyn Gormley, and Julio Polic (sp).
+Joseph Lamontagne I remember that guy on USA Network and freaked out when he won. there was another girl who survived 9 passed spins and 2 additional and I was like "she is a legend".
I also like Karen "I want a pool table for Dan" Martin and Steve "big bucks and no whammmmmmmys" Bryant
Gene was originally from Buffalo NY, Peter was born in Olean NY, about an hour away.
The crazy thing about his big reaction hitting the intros is how much it obscures their big battle that led up to it - one that was ostensibly a harbinger of things to come this month...!
EIGHTY
THOUSAND
DOLLARS
COME ON, EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS
That's 14 times that he said $80,000. And he ended up with less than half of it when he retired undefeated.
Well...at least he leaves a memorable player. He's definitely one-of-a-kind to be sure.
They should have given him $80,000 for being so awesome.
All three being New Yorkers adds an interesting flavor to this. (I hadn't realized Nancy was too; on her first game, which I hadn't seen until last night, she mentions that she worked at Kennedy [JFK] Airport.)
Peter was a New Yorker too, growing up in the Western part of NY State, before moving to California.
The intro clips in round 2 can be found at 9:37, 10:03 and 17:50.
Prizes worth $2,695 combined with the $15,575 in cash for a grand total $18,270
Now that was very heartbreaking. Blew it on the last spin.
So close for Nancy
17:50
I want whatever Gene is on
9:36 and 10:00 are awesome moments from the fladhback intro. 17:49 is a big money loss, and it's also from the intros.
12:21 should've been 1 of the "you're out" whammies or maybe this was before they stared doing that, but that particular one totally fits getting your 4th Whammy
This was before they started doing that.
17:38 She's Gonna go!! seconds later, disaster and championship reign over.
Donovan Scalco she real stupid. She was suppose to pass the spin.
She never deserved the win and be back. Now that's what she gets as a real loser.
That scene was used in one of the show's late intros.
@@ChristianLakhan What fool would spin again after having an earned spin with over $20,000
@@andrewbeaudoin7363 She probably would have gone well over the $25,000 with win
Nancy was awesome also
I'll take this press your luck episode over any family feud episode since 1999.

LOL @ 3:28. Toasting Peter. Sounds painful.
Watch for the intro clips in round 2.
10:51 Scoring glitch
July 23rd 1984
And now, it's gonna air on Buzzr in an unmolested fashion.
And by unmolested, I mean without credit crunchers and without speed-ups.
5:04
Did anyone notice on Nancy's last spin that #18 never lit up and #8 lit up 4 times in the 2 sequences?
Bad news for Press Your Luck fans on Buzzr they were cycle back to Episode 82 starting next Monday on Buzzr.
Gene Snyder..... the epitome of humility and good sportsmanship. [/sarcasm]
Greg Palmer he was happy he won. sorry Nancy you lost
Gene had more than that little pipsqueak Chris Kass
@@robertlalexander4083 Chris made more. Why you hate Chris?
Anyone notice how the board sounds are faster?
More than likely the old way GSN sped up episodes to fit in to a time slot (more commercial time in 2004 than 1984)
Thegamerontop
17:49 is a Big Money Loss and it's also from the intros. And so are 9:37 and 10:02.
First day of Leo Season starts with a bang (VTR day July 23 1984)
Try saying "EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS" 5 times fast like Gene
I did it
How much was on that board in the 2nd round again?
Did anyone notice near the end, in Gene's total, he had a 777..... Nancy takes the final spin she should have passed, while she had a 666 in her total. :O
Nancy nearly was going to retire with (at least) $34,561.

schmolik1
But Gene was on too much of a roll for Nancy to pass their spins. Besides, Nancy knew her odds of hitting a Whammy were less than 50%.

Don't forget the prizes that were worth $3000+ were on the board.
Easy decision to go for it, but that's why it's called Press Your Luck!
12:18 Carol is out.
How could Gene want $80,000 if only $50,000 was the maximum you could retire with at this time?
It was $25000 until later in the year when they raised it to $50000.
Why was the specific amount of money that Gene desired "eighty-thousand dollars"? Did he need that much money in particular to get out of debt or something? He sure raved like an egotistical lunatic about "EIGHTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!"

Because Peter mentions there is $80,000 up on the board in cash and prizes.
