It is possible to punch slightly downwards in a semi-crouched position without having to be off balance though, you would have to be leaning forward a lot to be off balance if you are angling the punch slightly downwards. It is actually a heavy shot if done well covered.
Whenever I take a good punch or kick to the liver, my interest in sparring seems to disappear and I wish I was doing a different sport, like croquet or lawn bowling....……..
Epic. Great video as usual. I like how after he tells you, what was previously not apparent seems like basic common sense. I think this is the mark of a great teacher.
Coach, you are the best!!! I have been following your videos daily (some repeatedly) since last month. I found answer for many of my questions/confusion about boxing forms, footwork, punches. Thank you 🙏 so much for these incredible videos. Is there any possibility that we get opportunity to take some personal training session with you?
I wish I was more confident with my bodywork. Coming off of kickboxing and transitioning into boxing is a new step. Since kickboxers primarily tend to be headhunters such as myself.
Awesome to see you back Fran! Thanks so much for the videos - love them! Just a home workout i have going on but great to learn proper technique etc... Keep them coming mate, much appreciated!
Watched a video of yours last night Fran, and you set me right already on footwork! Thanks so much - absolute gold this channel! I will let you know when I challenge GGG ;)
Ha ha! Thanks Fran - we got this! Seriously though that guy carries some power = WOW! Thanks for everything - going to get your boxing course too I think :)
He's stunning , excellent technical boxer although he does like a tear up. let me know when you are ready to buy and I'll send you a half-price discount code.
Fran - my approach for body hooks would be to try and land right on the very bottom edge of the rib cage ( the rib line ). If you don’t really “hug” the rib line, there is danger of going too low and glancing off the hip. If you hit on that rib line, you will also be impacting the soft tissue, due to the size of the fist or glove. Could you please comment? Thanks!
I always found it tough bending my knees because of my long skinny legs... if I missed the shot, i felt like it took a lot out of me... though I do completely agree with you
Then you probably have long arms as well, right? So for defense - as Fran suggests you could use straight body punches - you have a lot more options anyway!
realise your comment was a year ago. But the longer your legs are the wider your stance has to be when squatting down. Shuffling your feet from shoulder width to something 2ft wider will also drop your height significantly.
Been watching you for years and finally got myself into boxing. your tutorials have been very useful. Wish you were in Birmingham. Would you know of any boxing clubs you would recommend here.
Hey Frank. Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge. How low do you have to duck in order to connect uppercuts and hooks to the body? As low as a cross to the body? Greetings from Argentina
FRAN hi, I take an membership whit a discount, but the amount is not correct. Can you fix it for me please. Thanks advanced for all You are realy very good COACH
Good stuff, I'm fairly tall and lanky which makes body punches a risky situation (unless I'm the shorter opponent). What do you think Fran? Use fewer body shots as a taller fighter? Instinct tells me it's a golden opportunity for an incoming bombs as the shorter man might see an opening?
You should watch some Gerald McCleanan. He was tall and a great body puncher. Teddy Atlas wreckoned taller fighter punched very hard because of the leverage of their long limbs.
Well spotted Marc. Risk increases and decreases with every second and every passage of boxing. The key is whether the risk is worth it to land that body shot on the way in. You can always double arm block (cover) and simply come upright to be at close range. Nice observation mate, appreciate that.
That sounds good Fran. What about this as an alternative though? As you land the backhand to the body your weight goes onto your front foot so you can easily push off the front foot and spring backwards with both feet to an out of range position?
Plus if you are conventional as you slip to deliver the hook you are slipping to his outside where it is safer IMHO. As a kicker I like to roundhouse kick to the southpaws spleen with my right leg shin. That certainly seems to slow them down. I also find either liver or spleen shot seems to hurt more if they are landed at a slight upward angle to the body.
Love u mate u seriously now ur stuff...I train at Hookandjab Warrington :) and I think it might be ur fault I have a big cross on the kitchen floor haha just for quadrant traning :)
@@18618madeinamerica it was a knee strike, not even that hard, but perfectly placed to the bottom two right ribs, from a 3rd degree black belt in tkd. Sparring accident, but I was advancing forward, he was moving in, and I ran into it, stopping me in my tracks, and we both heard a sound like snapping a dry stick.
Some feedback. This is without doubt the best coach on RUclips. A little light-hearted sense of humour here and there and the game is yours.
You are so generous with your knowledge Fran!!
Thank you and you are most welcome.

Great video. It’s very insightful, eye-opening and precise. Thank you for this and all of your other, great videos.
Easy to understand and use, some people just worry about power and precision is super important.

can you tell something about neck harness workout for bixing
Yes, do proper sets, with added weight (20-40 kg), explode those sets, do 10x5 - 5 times a week
Hopkins vs De la Hoya one of the best fights.
indeed it was
Good call!

GREAT VIDEO!!!!
Thank you.
Thanks, great.
Hey Fran could you do a vid on the Philly shell
I'm going to be doing one on peek a boo over the next few weeks. Philly shell is not something I coach to be honest, prefer a double arm block.
great stuff thx!!!
You are welcome
Yeah... a good body shot and I'm not moving so well anymore.
Thanks for the video.
no worries, thanks
Been watching you for years and finally got myself into boxing. your tutorials have been very useful. Wish you were in Birmingham. Would you know of any boxing clubs you would recommend here.
Cool, thanks. Check the Boxing England website - there's a club finder there. Some real good gyms in the Birmingham area.
Lovely, you made "How to body shot" look super easy. Thanks!
No worries, thanks
Can you do a video of what a typical week should consist of for some one who is entering a charity boxing match?
Will see what I can do, although it should really be an 8 to 10 week program.
thank you I look forward to it when it comes
Jesus, how long have I been punching to the body incorrectly 😂
No wonder I never felt confident throwing them.
Left hook best for the Liver shot?
or uppercut

You could try with the jab William and see what reaction you get. Generally as long as you use speed there's no particular reason why not.
You should watch some Gerald McCleanan. He was tall and a great body puncher. Teddy Atlas wreckoned taller fighter punched very hard because of the leverage of their long limbs.
Now can you make a video of how to get outta there when you plant on that straight right to the body because you look vulnerable in that split second
Well spotted Marc. Risk increases and decreases with every second and every passage of boxing. The key is whether the risk is worth it to land that body shot on the way in. You can always double arm block (cover) and simply come upright to be at close range. Nice observation mate, appreciate that.

body shots are extremely effective on the SouthPaw. in the Southpaw stance the liver is in front.
Very good point
Plus if you are conventional as you slip to deliver the hook you are slipping to his outside where it is safer IMHO. As a kicker I like to roundhouse kick to the southpaws spleen with my right leg shin. That certainly seems to slow them down. +Fran Sands thanks fran
lol I don't wanna kill someone with a liver punch
Anyone else getting asmr vibes off this lmao
I got hit by a liver shot, 5 weeks later I'm still feeling the pain. The first 3 weeks were unbearable!
Bitch of a shot
seriously? you should get that checked out, i dont think its normal to feel it for that long
@@NikeSoccerTennis turned out it was a cracked rib!
That must've been a very solid punch if the cracked rib is over your liver...

Your opponents will score them hahaha true!
Yep, I 'scored' one or two for myself when boxing :-)
This guy looks like his amatuer record is about
12 fight
12 losses
All 12 losses by knockout in the first 20 -30 seconds
Pawel Krowalski 13 fights actually
TheRandomwizard hahahahah very close right ahahah
It’s 60 actually 🤡
