I'm so happy to have him as the captain of my hockey team. Such a class act and now we've seen that he's not afraid to step up for his morals and what's right. Each interview he does makes me want to go to war with him. He's so strong with his words, without being loud.
I worked for an NHL organization for a period of my life and I remember the Bruins were in town one game. Bergeron made an effort to acknowledge everyone working in the lower levels of the arena, from volunteers to security to interns, if he saw you and made eye contact, he would say something. Bergeron is a class act and he deserves every bit of success he has had.
I can vouch for this comment. I valeted for the Bruins during the 2018 Stanley Cup in Boston and he gave me a handshake daps and a hug while in line at Dunkin in the Garden. He recognized me and gave me big ups! Love PB37 👍🏻💪🏻🐻

Bergeron is the man. Loved the comments about Marchand. I have zero issues with any fans outside of Boston hating him. But Boston fans know he is indeed a great person and class act "off" the Ice. Always at the children's hospital and things like that. Always making people smile. Marchand holds Bergeron in such reverence, there is no doubt if Marchand played anywhere else, on any other line, he's probably not the elite player he is today and he's said that many times. Bergeron does keep Marchand on the rails most of the time simply because Marchand hates letting Bergy and the team down.
People underestimate Marchand's commitment to improvement. I recall early on his propensity to hold onto the puck too long , get fancy, then lose it. Now, he's one of the premier puck possession guys in the league. Quick release but little accuracy? Now he hits like there's a laser sight on his stick. Hell, thanks to Bergeron getting booted off the dot half the time, he's probably got a great faceoff stat. Yes, he gets wild. Yes, his trolley can jump the tracks. But there's also been games they've won they wouldn't have if Marchand didn't strap the team to his back and carry it with shear will.
His stats don't compare to the greatest in NHL history, but his leadership and work ethic, definitely do. He'll be my favorite player, until the day I die.
The basic stats don't match up to Gretzky, ovi, jagr, etc...sure, but he's always been at least above average offensively, and the defensive aspect makes up for the numbers keeping him from the absolute top.
He recreated the importance of winning the faceoff. His stats suffered because after the 07' season he led the team in points with 70, but was a -28. He swore he wouldn't allow himself to be - minus player. He would only allow himself to be a player who would play both ends of the ice! So it's not that he didn't have the talent to be a big point producer. He just took pride in playing being great as a complete player as there EVER was! Hard pressed to name one better! 11 straight seasons to finish top 3 in voting for an individual trophy again is going to be tough to beat! Orr is on another level, but Bergy knocked down, Neely & Bourque & he's my favorite player behind Orr!
When he dropped Datsyuk's name it was so fitting. There's so many times watching Bergeron over the years I'm like yea, that reminds me of someone. Bergeron was always a complete player who got better with age which is just crazy.
Lifelong Habs fan, I have always loved the Boston rivalry, to me, it is the biggest rivalry in hockey. Boston being such a competitive team it makes it sweeter to beat them, unlike the leafs which is like beating a dead horse. I root for Boston if they're in the playoffs and Montreal is not. Patrice is pure class. loved the interview.
As a teenaged Bruins fan, I hated the Canadiens in the '80s. They always beat Boston in the playoffs. Eighteen consecutive playoff series victories, going back to the '40s. The last four were in '84, '85, '86, and '87. When the Bruins finally beat them in '88, in Montreal no less, it was even more satisfying to me than winning the Cup in 2011. I attended a Bruins game at the Forum in '91 or '92 and no one bothered me, even though I wore a Bruins sweatshirt (there were several thousand more Bruins fans in attendance). I've always remembered that. Now that I've seen many Boston sports championships (and mellowed with age), I'm much more casual about being a fan, and the hate for rivals has turned to respect. I will be happy for whatever Canadian team ends the national Stanley Cup drought.
haha totally agree. I lived in Montreal for 20 yrs as a huge Bruins fan and was brave enough to put a Bruins bumper sticker on my car. When we see both those historic jerseys together on the ice, it's a beautiful love/hate feeling. The Leafs don't bring that emotion, they're just annoying. Bergeron is my favorite player of all time - all around class act product of Quebec.

Been a bruins fan since I was 5 years old, I am currently 38. I have seen so many ups and downs over the years, but the last 12 years have been a great run to be a bruins fan. We have been constant contenders and an elite team for so long, it is almost impossible tone that good for that long, and one of the major reasons why the bruins have been so consistent over the past 12 seasons is truly because of players and leadership the caliber of Patrice. We are currently off to a great start, and are playing like champions right now. Let’s bring it home this year boys, so Patrice and krejci can ride off into the sunset as champions, and we can turn the page and rebuild and hopefully do it all over again. GO B’s!
This is an undervalued interview! The rawness of it and the emotional weight of the answers come through without additional graphics and music all over it. It's simplicity somehow makes the moment more special.
As someone who speaks just one language, I'm always impressed at how well Bergeron speaks English, considering that he spoke none when he came to Boston at age 18. Most people who are fluent in another language learned as a young child. (Here in the U.S., most kids don't study a foreign language until age 12. As a result, almost none become bilingual.) During Bergeron's first months with the Bruins, he said that at a restaurant he would just point to a picture on the menu, if there were any, or order whatever a teammate was getting.
I don't think you could tell his first language is French from listening to him as he barely even has a French accent any more. He sounds almost like an Anglo Canadian (to non-Canadian ears).
As Quebecois, he impressed me a lot. But I would say it's the effect of full immersion for years. Denis Potvin, Marcel Dionne, Gil Perreault, Martin St-Louis, Marty Brodeur , Mario Lemieux and so and are very fluent, but, as opposed to most Swedish or Germans, they were not fluent at all when they were 18.
I was thinking the same exactly. We grew up in the same area of Québec and as much as I wish I had his English, I'm impressed he's still just as good when being interviewed in French. Often times, francophones who stay in the NHL for that long struggle when they come back to their initial language, but he's perfectly fluent in both.
Thank you Patrice you are a true professional and represent Boston and the Boston Bruins with honor and dignity and thank you for all the hard work you put in and what a professional athlete should be in a great role model and you are one of the toughest players that have ever played you are a true Bruin and thank you for all the great memories

@@AWCTB yep, you got it -Boston is his home, and he plans on working with Boston to expand hockey - but I don't know that he'd be working directly with the nhl/ahl bruins. That doesn't expand hockey. He's going to be in a more historic role. this is actually been in the news over the last 10 years and the NHL doesn't cover it I'm in alaska, I notice sometimes we get different internet news than the lower 48 - the boy-child prime minister of Canada has gotten involved in NHL affiliation teams - he was pissed that Vegas was chosen a few years ago He wants to bring a team back to Montreal and that would be the nordiques. The past 3 years when bergeron's retirement has come up, the scuttlebutt about him going to Montreal would also arise and we knew darn well he would never ever be a Hab. Yep Patrice did make statements that he would like to help develop more hockey teams.. So that's why I think if bergey's going to get involved in DEVELOPING any NEW team, it would be the bringing back the nordiques. He just stated in his interview last week, Boston is his home - (it is a lot like liberal Canadian cities) But I think he may get involved on some level with the nordiquess cuz he wants hockey back in Montreal and all they have are Habs I could see him bringing Nordiques back to his hometown. He has never said a flat out "no" to involvement in Montreal Canadian hockey leagues, just no to Habs He's been asked this question directly, reporters have stopped asking cuz they know he's not going to answer - and they won't get interviews with Patrice if they keep annoying him with the same questions! So he could very well end up bringing back the Nordiques Who could turn out to be an affiliation for the bruins! Could you imagine that rivalry between a new Boston affiliate Nordiques team and the Habs! They'll be riots in the streets! Lol!
I apologize, as I do not know who you are, and I have never seen you before, but I have to say that that is one of the best one on one player interviews I have ever seen. I am in my mid fifties and have been a die hard Bruins fan since I was 7 years old. Bergeron is an elite Bruin, a class act and an amazing leader for the organization. However, over the years he has not done a lot of interviews like that. Your questions really allowed him to open up and show what an amazing human being he is. So proud he wears the Spoked B.
I honestly think he was about to say Auston Matthews when saying about the shot, but he realized fans wouldn’t like that too much so he switched to Pasta. Obviously I could be wrong
I'm 55 and am old enough to remember the Bobby Orr/Esposito Bruins. To me, in terms of how this young man conducts himself on and off the ice, he may be the greatest Bruin of them all in terms of both on and off the ice accomplishments. Bobby Orr always get the loudest ovation when former Bruins are seen at Garden events, but I believe, years after Patrice has hung up his skates, he will be getting the second loudest, eclipsing Bourque. In my mind, he has become the yardstick by which all future Bruins will be forever measured.
You will probably not see this Bergeron but thank you for being you my dude. I'll start by saying yes I'm a leafs fan, but I'm also Franco Ontarien.
I’m a Seattle Kraken fan but I love the Bruins. Matty Beniers idolized Bergy and look at where he’s at. Bergy is the best. Thank you for what you’ve done for hockey. Much love to our brothers and sisters in Boston from Seattle.
What a great interview!!!! The questions that he asked this future Hall of Famer first ballot bye the way was spot on ! Patrice Bergeron is a class act on and off the ice. What a pleasure to hear from his heart and soul, that he leaves out on that ice every night.!! We Love you Patrice ! Thank you for all you have done for the Bruins organization and all your humanity driven charities off the ice ! You are a living legend in all our eyes !!!!! Thank you Sir ❤
You know you're good when any hockey team in history would instantly be made better by having you on the team because you check off every single important category: Skill, Leadership, Respect of Teammates & Opponents, Community Involvement, and Being a Good Role Model. I'm a Devils fan and have seen him pick apart my team over the years, but I am a HUGE Bergeron fan.
To the “Would you play in Quebec City question?” - I think I speak on behalf of all Bruins fans when I say that Patrice has gone so far beyond earning our respect and admiration and we know that he will forever be a Bruin, so if he has the opportunity to go play for his childhood team, we would all be overjoyed and excited for him.
@Notorious Eagle if you're referring to Tavares here, I don't think Tavares had contributed half as much to the islanders that bergeron has contributed to Boston lmao
I know it’s not a hockey analogy, but I think a lot of us here in Boston feel similarly about s guy like Derek Jeter who captained the New York Yankees for a very long time. Great leadership and humanity transcends rivalry and tribalism. It’s really special to have had Patrice as a person, player, and leader here in Boston. We are spoiled.
If it hasn't been said once or a million times.......this man embodies what hockey should stand for and he is nothing but class. Kudos to Bergeron for being a great human and being so classy.
Great interview, I always watch clips of PB, you really think if you met him he would be as awesome and classy to sit with and have a pint. Great personality for NHL, Team Canada and our country. Yes, I think even better than #99 stats aside...lol
I’m life long oilers fan but I love watching bruins only reason for that’s Patrice. He is not only very good player but more then that he is very good human lots respect for him. I know how highly Connor think about this guy.
I love his humility. Classy guy. That's one of the reasons that hockey is the best sport in the world. Most hockey players are humble and don't showboat like say football (American) and basketball players. Most also get paid less than those guys. The passion they play with is incredible. The injuries they play through says it all.
I'm not a Bruins fan but this guy is an amazing captain and his influence on his team is such that it is difficult to dislike them. Bergeron is in the same league as Jean Beliveau and Joe Sakic as far as being a wearer of the C.
Bergeron! You won't find a classier guy. You have been my Favorite Hockey Player since you laced em up. I've always tried to Model life following your lead. I've gotten through some really crazy hard times and I owe you alot. LETS GOO BOYYZ!!!!617 BRUINS 4 LYF BERGY 4 LYF
Hate the Bruins all you want, but there's something wrong with you if you don't like & respect this guy!! Know what I heard? I heard & wouldn't be a bit surprised. Was that PART of the reason he came back this year was because he heard that Chara was retiring. So, he wanted this year to be Chara's year of getting his accolades on his awesome career & his best years as a Bruin.
I remember the first time I saw him play Montreal in his first playoff. You could tell by that series he was going to be one of the special Bruins together with Marchand
iidiot friedman sure seems proud of himself whenever PB says 'good question'. PB does little things that just tells you he's kind. Shin tapping Tage Thompson after asking about his wife's battle with cancer was nice to see the other day
for a guy known for defense hes been a dam good offensive player to go along with being the best D forward off all time and being one of the best leaders of any team ever
Bergeron's first shift on ice, I turned to my ex-wife and said- he's going to be a super star! He has the 'it' factor. Not to get the Selke each year is a travesty... but I guess there are other players in the league too.... I don't remember the year or the game, but I remember he was young, new but roughed up in the crease after a goalie tied it up, and he had every right to punch, fight and defend himself, but he just looked at the goon and I think he thought, you are not worth me going in the box, I am about to score or do something positive... and he did. His 'executive function' is second to none. I love that a legend like Recci has such cool memories of another legend. My nephew had the hockey sense to have loved Bergy also since he could skate at age 3 or 4, and watch the B's. Maybe I helped steer him in the right direction? Rocco is now 23, and Bergy still fav! With Lindholm and Coyle. On and off the ice he earns admiration every minute of every day. To be so great and so humble is rare. Total respect! Please play in Boston until it is not fun for you anymore! And I hope that is never. Patrice's Pals is yet another way this good human's big heart shows through. His answer to each question is thoughtful and considered. He is well above average in every way! As I listen to this again, I hear him say 'yin and yang' and be in the now. He is a Zen Master. The Buddha is him. Thank you Ms. Sylvie for raising such a whole, and holistic human. Boston has benefitted from all you have done!
Friedman tries really hard, multiple times, to get Patrice to admit that the Maple Leafs, and playing/beating them, are important to him. In the diplomatic polite way that he does things, Bergeron keeps his integrity and brushes it off and continues to bring up the Canadiens. He's being interviewed in Toronto, by a Torontonian that is also Leafs fan, on a Toronto-centric network that clearly loves to talk about the Leafs. Most players would kowtow and Bergeron does not. Thank you for your integrity, Mr. Bergeron!
Great interview by an even greater human being! He’s a class act and being from his hometown is a privilege to have him represent us so well in the NHL!
I'm so happy to have him as the captain of my hockey team. Such a class act and now we've seen that he's not afraid to step up for his morals and what's right. Each interview he does makes me want to go to war with him. He's so strong with his words, without being loud.

He just stated in his interview last week, Boston is his home - (it is a lot like liberal Canadian cities)
But I think he may get involved on some level with the nordiquess cuz he wants hockey back in Montreal and all they have are Habs
I could see him bringing Nordiques back to his hometown. He has never said a flat out "no" to involvement in Montreal Canadian hockey leagues, just no to Habs
He's been asked this question directly, reporters have stopped asking cuz they know he's not going to answer - and they won't get interviews with Patrice if they keep annoying him with the same questions!
So he could very well end up bringing back the Nordiques
Who could turn out to be an affiliation for the bruins!
Could you imagine that rivalry between a new Boston affiliate Nordiques team and the Habs!
They'll be riots in the streets!
Lol!
I feel like I could listen to Bergy talk for hours about literally anything.
Yeah no... take the ciggs off this guy.
Lifelong Bruins fan (i"m 53), and with massive respect to Bobby Orr and Cam Neely, Patrice is the greatest Bruin of all time.
Patrice brings pride to Montreal, Boston and the NHL. Can’t ask for a better role model for young players!
Put this guy in charge of hockey Canada!! Pure class
Sabres fan through and through. Hate the Bruins, but my god, I am in love with this man's spirit. A beautiful human. More Bergerons, please.
When bergy’s voice crack when he says the word temper talking about Marcy is gold.
A bruins legend - a man who you would want on your team and/or who's team you want to be on
Elliott asks him about who has influenced his game and he immediately brings up a teammate. Such a legend
I honestly think he was about to say Auston Matthews when saying about the shot, but he realized fans wouldn’t like that too much so he switched to Pasta. Obviously I could be wrong
Most respected person in hockey.
From the other side is I-90!
We will miss you Bergy very much. There is no one to replace you when you retire.
One of my favourite players of all time!! To think his career was almost brought to an abrupt end years ago
when he suffered a serious concussion.
Been my favorite playing since he came into the league. To think we almost lost out on this career.
Awesome interview with the humble legend. Patrice always makes it about his team like a true captain.
Great player. Better person! Pure CLASS.
This interview was simply fantastic!
If only Islander fans had that logic.
@Notorious Eagle if you're referring to Tavares here, I don't think Tavares had contributed half as much to the islanders that bergeron has contributed to Boston lmao
Factoring in skill, class, development, leadership, perseverance, integrity, he is IMO, The Greatest Bruin Ever.
Even as a rival Habs fan, I have nothing but respect for a human being as good as Patrice Bergeron.
PB future coach and GM of the Bruins. Just put his number in the rafters already and in the Hall of Fame.
yes lol get Sweeney outa there, dudes a clown.
Extremely classy player and human. Sure glad he's a Bruin.
Came here to listen to a heartfelt interview, did not disappoint!
One of the best of all time
Bergy complimenting the interviewer on his questions is just another example of how classy he is.
Wow. What a class act and example for anyone in any profession.
I love him. So soft spoken and classy off the ice but a beast on it.
I’m life long oilers fan but I love watching bruins only reason for that’s Patrice. He is not only very good player but more then that he is very good human lots respect for him. I know how highly Connor think about this guy.
Unreal interview, one of the best I’ve ever seen
That was awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed every second of that
you are a mother's dream, Patrice.... God bless you....
Bergeron Bergeron! BERGERON!!
Absolute class act.
I love his humility. Classy guy. That's one of the reasons that hockey is the best sport in the world. Most hockey players are humble and don't showboat like say football (American) and basketball players. Most also get paid less than those guys. The passion they play with is incredible. The injuries they play through says it all.
#37-rafters and HOF! Class act!
I'm not a Bruins fan but this guy is an amazing captain and his influence on his team is such that it is difficult to dislike them. Bergeron is in the same league as Jean Beliveau and Joe Sakic as far as being a wearer of the C.
Great interview! Bergeron is a class act.
My favorite player
Wow great interview
I like this guy. He’s helped my fantasy hockey team tremendously. I meant to say he’s awesome. And the other one too
Bergy is the very definition of "Pure".
I hate everything about the bruins except him. One of the classiest players I’ve ever seen.
We need more Beatrice in the NHL what a classy gentleman
Hate the Bruins all you want, but there's something wrong with you if you don't like & respect this guy!! Know what I heard? I heard & wouldn't be a bit surprised. Was that PART of the reason he came back this year was because he heard that Chara was retiring. So, he wanted this year to be Chara's year of getting his accolades on his awesome career & his best years as a Bruin.
hope he ends this year with a ring hes the most deserving and humble person.
At 66 Isk inspired,and grateful . Thank you 🐻
I remember the first time I saw him play Montreal in his first playoff. You could tell by that series he was going to be one of the special Bruins together with Marchand
iidiot friedman sure seems proud of himself whenever PB says 'good question'.
PB does little things that just tells you he's kind. Shin tapping Tage Thompson after asking about his wife's battle with cancer was nice to see the other day
All time human being from the greatest hockey city in the world 🟪🟨🟫🟨🟪🟨
What a guy my captain 💛🖤
for a guy known for defense hes been a dam good offensive player to go along with being the best D forward off all time and being one of the best leaders of any team ever
He is utterly beautiful inside and out and such an elite player. One more year Cap! 😍❤️❤️
What a guy……. Top shelf.
Intense eye contact equals genuine human being.
Bergeron!
Man I love this guy
Great guy , he’s been to my school and also my brother’s school
Great interview by an even greater human being! He’s a class act and being from his hometown is a privilege to have him represent us so well in the NHL!
He's my gen Mr. Bruin. When he retires will be a great GM, President or coach if he wants. Perfection line was/is ridiculous.
A class act.
We love bergee in Boston. Class act all the way aroind
Great interview.
Class Act!
just pure class
What a great guy,,wish he was on my team (redwings)
What a class act he's like the modern day Jean Beliveau.
Saint Patrice Bergeron
