  • In early June, @Tales From The Swan’s Neck took Narrowboat Reverie from the teeming Napton Junction to the centre of Banbury. This crowded contour canal twists and turns, providing a few narrow escapes along the way. With HS2 construction underway we’ll see where it will cross the navigation, and we’ll pass through the famous canal villages of Fenny Compton and Cropedy, finally arriving in the modern town centre of Banbury.

      I'm good thanks, and hope you guys are keeping well. Most boaters help out at locks don't they. Although that said I was struggling on one of the vicious locks on the K&A a few weeks ago, and another boat turned up and sat in his boat. As I was leaving the lock he 'had a bit of trouble with that did you?' I can't print what my reply was... There's always one or two eh.

    Hi Andrew that Boat in the Field. The story goes that a man who works for the Farmer lives on it so to save money he dug a trench and lifted the boat into it .I Imagine he saves a few bob.

    I watch your videos as soon as they come out. Watched this a couple times but only on the Telly where I can’t comment. Forgot that I hadn’t ( just got waylaid by my daughter for an hour). Left a comment. I’m one of those people who put dirty work clothes on when I go out to work. My water is delivered to a 1500 gal tank under the kitchen. I try not to waste water. Need to start a fire. It got down to 9C a couple days ago. Leaves are starting to turn yellow. Take care.

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  3 года назад

      I appreciate your comments, and the fact that you too save water. It's a valuable resource that's taken for granted too much these days. It's felt like autumn here the last week which is way too early. Is it normal for the leaves to turn in August in Alaska?

    • @yeoldfart8762
      @yeoldfart8762 3 года назад

      @@talesfromtheswansneck there’s always some trees that turn early. The first two weeks of September which are the most colorful. There was one fall where we got a 6 inch snowfall while the trees were still green. The leaves didn’t change color and stayed on the trees throughout the winter. It was hard on the trees and also hard on the song birds. Hope that doesn’t happen again. August is our rainy month and it seems to be extra rainy this year. Growing webbed feet.

Hilarious.... when out in the elements in any environment as long as you are safe, warm and protected why does it matter if we look like we dont wash!!! A priceless statement to hear and I am sure you have heard some other beauties as well...!! X

    Don't you secretly wish for a partial lockdown to keep the canals from being like the M1!! I'm old enough to remember the Second World War and all the empty roads I had while on my bike. Believe it or not, but I actually had my sandwich lunch at Stonehenge with not a soul around. I sat on those ancient stones and felt no desire to leave a mark where I'd been. Happy days.

      @talesfromtheswansneck  3 года назад

      Hello again John, yeah the canals are busier now than they were when used for commercial traffic. Very busy this year as less people holidaying abroad. Are you a Moonraker then? My dad was from Salisbury, I went to art college in Salisbury, and I'm currently in Devizes. Mind you, you can't get close to the stones these days.

    Thanks Andrew for another sweet video of life on the what er ways. I like to start a Sunday morning with you; kinda like church. Peace, respect, a history of the natural entwined with human worlds...the best of England. Love your skanky anorak and real-people jeans - don't change a thing! I sometimes wish your camera would linger on some of the other boats a bit, especially ones with unusual decoration or intriguing industrial gear, but maybe that would be considered rude in narrowboat society? -Jacqui in fire-ravaged BC.

    We did Napton to Fenny Compton. Being an early contour canal it is very windy with plenty of blind corners.
    Lack of CRT maintenance, as with all the network, doesn't help.
    I can't believe Fairport Convention are still going! We used to live nearby, sneak in without tickets as teenagers 40 years ago.

    So pleased that people in England can move around. Hope it lasts for you all. Ha ha I've just been reading that June, July have been the hottest in history (as I note the layers that you are all wearing). I know it's Winter in New Zealand but it's been extremely cold, wet and miserable. The Sunday morning cruise on your boat has been a lovely way to start the day. Take care as always. =-)

      Hi Lorraine, I don't know where the hottest June and July was, certainly not here. It has either been wet, windy, or overcast (and often all three), or for a several days in May and July extremely hot - too hot in fact.

The data shows that the combined land and ocean-surface temperature was 0.93C (1.68F) above the 20th Century average of 15.8C (60.4F). It is the highest temperature since record-keeping began 142 years ago."

    Hi Andrew. Before you mentioned the washing machine and your 'working' clothes, I thought how much you had changed from your first vlog when you took possession of your boat after leaving the Marina in Mirfield.
    Your hair has grown such a lot and yes, your clothes look well worn.
    However, your dry humour remains the same and your vlogs interesting and picturesque.
    Keep up the good work.
    Are you heading back up to Mirfield at any point?

    Fenny Compton a crap village ??? Have you actually walked down to the village ? It has a good co op shop, a good school, doctors surgery and the best pub in the Merrie Lion. My boat was the one you passed Mi Vida Loca and I have lived here for almost 7 years in Fenny Compton.
    Let's hope when you return you don't need any help in any way, as we can show you how "crap" it can be here ;0)

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  Год назад

      Kevin, thanks for your input. For your information yes I did take a long walk down a busy road into the village. I found the co-op (as with all co-ops) over-priced and the produce over-packaged. I found no other redeeming features in Fennt Compton other than the rather lovely name. to my mind it's rather like naming a daughter Grace only to find that she grows into something resembling a Turkish wrestler ! I would say if you don't like my channel, or get my sense of humour then don't watch it.
