The refs didn't whistle it, was called a TD. In a weird twist of rules the play wasn't reviewed because the Lions coach called a challenge on a play which was an automatic review causing the play not be reviewed. As a Texan fan, yeah, he was down, but a stupid rule, I'll take it.

Yes, that was my thought: The player was so afraid of a “late hit” that he didn’t realize that all he had to do was shove him out of bounds. And not even a hard shove, but just a little nudge.

hawk55732 it’s a rule so coaches don’t challenge because they are already reviewed. Coach’s would get mad and it just causes less problems.

It would have been overturned, except the Lions coach challenged the play. Since by rule, you’re not allowed to challenge a scoring play (it’s done automatically) the Lions were not allowed to benefit from the challenge. Weird rule, but it is a rule. This essentially made the play unreviewable.

Austin Yes they are. The problem is there is a rule in the rule book that says if a challenge flag is thrown on a play that is automatically challenged (like a scoring play), the team that threw the flag can no longer benefit from the review. I know it sounds dumb, and if anything at most it should be a penalty, but that’s what the rule says. So essentially, the play wasn’t overturned as it should/would have been if the Lions coach never threw the flag.
@Joe I feel jim Schwartz was just so done will the refs screwing him on another controversial play so he just threw it without even thinking which is a dumb move as u said because he would be penalized on it and I agree with him also he could make the argument he thought the play was over so he threw the flag on that play when he was supposed to be down
